Game publisher Marvelous has announced that the mech-based third-person shooter Assault Gunners HD Edition is boosting onto Switch this week.
Previously released on PS4 and PC, Assault Gunners HD Edition is set to retain all of the intense mech combat action and high levels of customisation in this latest Switch edition. Naturally, the Switch version will also introduce a handheld option for the first time, with mech fans able to play the game on the TV in docked mode, or on the go in tabletop and handheld modes.

The game features 35 full-length battle-heavy missions, a horde gameplay mode known as 'Inferno Mode' covering five varied maps, and over 100 mech customisation possibilities. Players are put in control of the peace keeping force known as DAT, and along with your three allied Battle Mechs, you must attempt to save Earth’s Migrants and the Mars Colonies from the threat of the ANTS uprising.
There will be three different options available on the eShop - the standalone game, DLC to add to that purchase, or a bundle that encompasses all of the content in one handy package. The DLC includes 15 extra campaign missions, three additional Inferno Mode maps, 15 new weapons, extra customisation options, and more. The game launches this Thursday (5th July) with a 10% launch week discount.

I see no mention of multiplayer! What a shame. These were my fave kinds of games to watch people play together when I was in Akihabara. Such fun, and it was SUPER competetive.
I think I'll wait for Daemon X Machina.
I was already sold when it was announced it was making the jump from Vita to Switch. Will do nicely until the main course (Daemon X Machina) arrives next year.
@Shiryu
yeah this looks pretty nifty. for 12$ i may grab it if it reviews well and plays well portable.
It looks worse than a 360 game, to charge for DLC is a joke.
If there's no co-op, then I'll pass on this. Shame because of the awesome price and appealing genre.
"Naturally, the Switch version will also introduce a handheld option for the first time, with mech fans able to play the game on the TV in docked mode, or on the go in tabletop and handheld mode" We already know what a switch is...but this game really looks like a mindless run and gun but I might get it just because.
I love it here -

Looks good
Excited
Great game.
Looks worse than a 360 game.
I should start playing Nintendo life comment bingo.... same things said in every thread and the inevitable comparison to PS4/Xbox1/360.
“Shovel ware” and port come up a lot too.
House! What do I win?
Good deal overall. I'll probably grab it. I love mech games.
Do we really need to be told that you can play a Switch game in handheld or table-top mode, every single time?
looks just as horrid as the PS4 version - and that had a 45 metacritic score ... Being able to play it on the go will not make it any better.
Get more value just using the 9.99 on a month of HBO NOW on my iPhone.
@Agramonte 45? Yikes. I'll wait for Daemon X Machina. Think I'll play some Mechassault while I wait.
The sister site review (PS4 port on PushSquare) is worth a look so your expectations are set. Looks awesome but is very basic no strategy game with a mech in it.
Nothing to get excited about here unfortunately. The PS4 version has 45 on Metacritic and Push Square gave it a 3/10. It seems to he a basic, no frills mobile type experience.
I’d rather wait for a super robot war game on the switch..
It’s okay and well priced. But where is my Robotech game/movie/live action series!!!
I'm going to keep an open mind and wait for the NL review. The PS4 version has six reviews, and they're all some variant of "lol why is this on PS4?" More like the reviewers just don't like this sort of niche action game.
Was very interested until looked at the reviews. Now not sure. Will see what NL’s review is like. I’m not expecting a super unique, huge or even excessively polished game for under a tenner but at least competent, fun and worth the entrance fee.
@Stocksy You just won a salty hug.
@Francema Seriously. Every time for the past 20 years that I've seen a robot game or vid snippet without knowing the details, my first reaction is "Ooo, Robotech??". Macross M3 was hot at the time, Battlecry was good, but I need something like Mech Warriors customization meets Dynasty Warriors field fill at this point
That live action movie just isn't real anymore, I swear. Last news was from September '17 when it got the writer from Wonder Woman. Still doesn't have a production start date.
@Alikan Yeah... Daemon X Machina looks awesome. Day 1 for me.
@HobbitGamer yeah... it is kind of sad. But we can all just have hope for the next opportunity to make this come true. Thanks for sharing!!!
@Francema Aaaaand now I'm gonna watch some Macross Plus on my break.
Daemon X Machina looks sooooooo good after watching this.
Just a warning, the PS4 version of this game got some really terrible feedback:

@HobbitGamer your only usually a bit salty
Looks a lot better than that other mech game, and I'm a sucker for this stuff, it's cheap, so yeah. Steam reviews are positive too. Most reviews say its fast paced, run n gun style mech game, and it does it well.
It's got mechs, so I'm sold
@Stocksy So true! Sometimes the farm near my house has me stand in the horse stable for hours.
Oh my god this looks absolutely terrible. I'm no graphics whore, but this looks like a team of children made it.
I hate when people say this, HOWEVER, this really does look like an HD PS One game, or launch PS2 game. Specifically Armored Core.
Cool. If the gameplay holds up, I can play out my "Full Metal Panic!" fantasies.
@Painkiller_Mike Makes sense as this appears to be a remaster of a Vita game, and Vita games always had a PS2 kinda look to them.
@PhilKenSebben The reviews are barely positive on Steam, out of the 37 reviews right now 26 of them are positive 11 are negative. While that isn't terrible it definitely isn't great.
@JayJ Still mostly good. From reading, seems most folks wanted more out of the game, or a sim style mech game.
Don’t get me wrong... this looks cool. But it also looks like it could be better too. Specifically the dusty explosions. Those smoky rocket trails look phenomenal though.
I’m not a game designer at all and I’m not saying I could do it better but I can tell when something just doesn’t look quite there yet. I’ll keep my eye on this though because I too love Mech games. And I haven’t played one in sooooo long and really need to.
Might be worth a toss, very decent price. Looks alright to me but will wait for review. I need a mech game of some sort. I was always interested in the old PS1 games but they were too, um, clunky I guess. This might be cheap but fun if we're lucky.
This looks potentially really interesting. Please give us an in-depth review, I want to know more!
Looks alright. I’d rather get a localized port of Gundam Unicorn.
Ok, caught my attention now. Most probably will get this day 1.
Love mech Games! When will they realize we like giant(or tiny lol) fighting robots in the west!?
We need more!!
I do miss a good mech game, but Zone of the Enders that isn't. It looks a little stiff to me, but that is a pretty nice price.
Still, Daemon X Machina looks far superior.
@Tsurii Actually yes, I do have opinions!
It looks like garbage. It looked like garbage when it originally released on the PS Vita, and the "HD" version did nothing to help the graphics. The great robot designs really were wasted on this game. Other than that, it looks like a very simple co-op hoard shooter. The mech customization almost got me to bite several times, but I'd rather deal with that in either a tactically-oriented game, or in a game like Armored Core, where it has a distictive feel to it that makes the customization more satifying.
I haven't actually played it, though. Just one of those games that sounds great on paper, but I have yet to see any video that did it any favors. It just doesn't look appealing to me.
