Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has managed to keep a firm grip on the UK number one spot, with the Switch and Xbox One versions of the game performing well in their second week.
The major new release this week was Jurassic World: Evolution which, despite leading the way in the individual formats chart (on PS4), couldn't quite topple the might of Crash on the whole. Elsewhere, Mario Tennis Aces dropped from fourth to fifth place, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from sixth to seventh, and the usual evergreen suspects of Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 2 were also present with 13th, 14th, and 19th positions respectively. Mario Kart 7 on 3DS also moved up a spot to 31st despite launching nearly seven years ago.
In the UK, the Xbox One version of Crash managed to outsell the Switch version - likely thanks to the strong Xbox fanbase present in the country - but the opposite was true across the entirety of Europe with the Switch version coming out on top overall.
Here's the full top ten all-format chart in the UK for last week:
- (1) Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- (New) Jurassic World: Evolution
- (2) The Crew 2
- (3) FIFA 18
- (4) Mario Tennis Aces
- (5) God of War
- (6) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- (10) Far Cry 5
- (7) Star Wars Battlefront II
- (9) Fallout 4
Have you picked up a copy of Crash Bandicoot on Switch?

I hope Captain Toad sells well this Friday 🤞
@Toads-Friend Hopefully. I didn't buy it in WiiU so looking forward to it on Switch.
Just need a port of Wonderful 101 now.
Hooshaa... !!
Glad to see Crash doing so well AGAIN. Especially on switch, and Xbox also 😁.
Something tells me that Activision is holding back on the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy announcement, because they wanted to know how well Crash would do on the Switch.
And now that same hunch is telling me that its release just came a lot closer!
@Monkeyofthefunk yes you're right there. That was an overlooked gem. Id really love it if theyd release Mario 3D World on Switch too. So few people had the chance to play it and it is so great.
it's more useful the other chart, the one posted doesn't give much information. Check this:

Crash Bandicoot on Xbox One outsells the Switch version again. Funny how some people say that those games don't sell on Xbox as much as on Nintendo consoles.
Jurassic World on top and Mario Tennis Aces still strong.
@BlueOcean
It’s difficult to do a direct comparison with Crash, as the XB1 has been out much longer. It may well be that a far higher percentage of Switch owners are buying it than Xbox owners.
Interesting chart though, the number of Xbox SKUs really illustrates how much of a presence it has in the UK. Similar to the US I suppose, whereas in other territories it’s faded badly.
I'll buy Crash one day, but right now I have Limbo, Inside and the last of the Octo Expansion to complete.
...oh and Octopath Traveller is out on Friday, I won't be playing anything else when that comes out
A full top 10 list of switch games would also be nice to see.
Really weird people in the uk like Xbox so much. This gen has been abysmal for xbox.
@Brutchie-bear Xbox is doing great in UK and US.
@BlueOcean which is crazy to me. Their exclusives have been terrible. Why not just buy a PS4 you can play everything worth a dang on Xbox and you actually have exclusives
@BlueOcean
Don't forget an important thing : The XBOX ONE and the Switch share something in common, the lack of games right now...
So, when a game like Crash Bandicoot is out, the sells on those platforms rise automatically.
I just imagine that HALO 38 or GEARS OF WAR 23 and MARIOKART 9 were out at the same moment... Crash will get 12 sells on XBOX and SWITCH.
@Brutchie-bear Nah, they exist and there are more interesting exclusives on Xbox One in my opinion: Forza Horizon, Sea of Thieves, Halo, Sunset Overdrive... I prefer that to Sony's exclusives honestly including Uncharted and The Last of Us, not to mention that I hate the PS4 controller and PS4 sounds like a hairdryer (I have both to compare).
@Cobalt Yeah whenever a big seller like Uncharted, Forza Horizon 4 o Mario hits a console the other games go down automatically.
@garydbz25 Making your deams come true, this is the Switch chart:
https://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110048
Crash Bandicoot is once again Switch's best seller.
I'm surprised to see Wolfenstein (released on the 29th) down to number 13 on the Switch chart a week later. How does that compare to Doom?
“In the UK, the Xbox One version of Crash managed to outsell the Switch version - likely thanks to the strong Xbox fanbase present in the country - but the opposite was true across the entirety of Europe with the Switch version coming out on top overall.”
Just a small correction - the Switch version outsold the XBone version across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia (although the company tracking this information apparently does not track every country in those regions).
EDIT: Apparently Crash is out on Switch and XBone only in North America and Europe currently, so the article is accurate in saying that the Switch version is the selling better just in Europe (although, again, since that company does not track all countries in the region or online sales, it could be hard to come to a full conclusion as to which version is doing better. It looks like both versions are doing great though.).
In any case, Crash is doing really well on XBone and Switch. In the individual format, the XBone and Switch versions both only fell one place to 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The Switch has managed to have a game in the top 3 in the individual format charts for the past 3 weeks now, which, considering the UK is one of Nintendo’s weakest markets, is pretty remarkable.
@FlimFlam Right. Crash Bandicoot is doing very well on both Xbox One and Switch ONE year later which means that PlayStation players from the 90s are not exclusively on PS4 and also that 3D platformers are popular today on ALL platforms (not just on Nintendo's consoles). It looks like Spyro being a multiplatform (no Switch version yet, unfortunately) release on day one will have an even more popular launch.
I never really saw the appeal for Xbox. it doesn't really have that many exclusives, and I feel like more console power is meaningless, as it mostly just makes the games look better.
@BlueOcean Yeah, just because a game sells better on one console does not mean that it failed on the other console. For Crash, I don’t know if the XBone version or Switch version has done better worldwide, but both versions have been very successful.
@AxeltheBuizel "I feel like more console power is meaningless"
Nintendo's most memorable marketing line: "Now you're playing with power!"
I understand what you meant. Couldn't pass up this opportunity lol
@Toads-Friend done my bit, preloaded
@FlimFlam I agree with you completely. Just because Sony was more lucky (this generation) doesn't mean that Nintendo and Microsoft aren't doing great now and will do in the future now that they have realised the mistakes that they made.
It's remarkable that a one-year old game is doing great on Xbox One and Switch and I am happy that these friendly games are still alive and kicking.
@AxeltheBuizel Apples and oranges. Give me Sea of Thieves over Uncharted any day.
Regarding power, I think it can make games much better: resolution, frame rate, quality of the effects, quality of textures, etc.
Just compare Twilight Princess HD with Twilight Princess, to give you a Nintendo example. Or Crash Bandicoot on Xbox One X and Switch.
@jockmahon you are a wise man 🏆
@NOOGA Yeah and don't forget GameCube, more powerful and better than PS2. Resident Evil 4 was much prettier (and creepier) on GameCube.
@Toads-Friend I didn't but I am playing the Wii U version again. The game has many more levels than I remembered. It's a pretty big game to be honest and the bosses give some variety. I recommend it.
Makes me wish that Mario Kart got an adventure mode like Diddy Kong Racing or missions and bosses like Mario Kart DS.
@Toads-Friend Good call.
@NewAdvent that’s because it’s coming home!
@AxeltheBuizel Not really. Having a higher frame rate makes the controller input more accurate, having a higher resolution and better draw distance makes it easier to avoid obstacles or spot enemies. A great example of this is Wolfenstein 2 or Doom on Switch v Xbox One or PS4.
Crash is the game I've been playing since release. I'm still collecting things in the first game because I've decided I'm only going to move to the next game when I get 101% in it. It's such great fun to play it again!
About the mentions in the comments regarding Switch, Xbox and PS4 (I also include 3DS), I just say that I'm glad we have so many great systems available these days. That's a bunch of great options for us!
@Toads-Friend really looking forward to it! Don't know if I'll be able to get it on day one, but it's on my list!!
@BlueOcean I have all 3 this generation. Started with the One but Bloodborne made me get a PS4 and it and God of War (2018) are two of the best games of this generation in my opinion. I really only still have my Xbox so my son and I can play Fortnite together crossplay with me on Switch and for Halo.
@John_Deacon Absolutely. I keep playing my 3DS, still my favourite handheld.
I also recommend completing Crash Bandicoot 1 first because 2 and 3 will make a bit difficult going back to 1.
@Brutchie-bear That depends on what type of games you prefer. The Xbox has more exclusives geared towards online communities, such as Forza Horizon, State of Decay, Gears etc. PS4 is all about single player interactive stories, such as Uncharted.
I'm an Xbox gamer because I like multiplayer games more.
@BlueOcean the same here. I played some New Super Mario Bros 2 with my girlfriend yesterday. I just love the 3DS!
@NewAdvent well it’s coming home
@NOOGA Cool. I got an Xbox One for Microsoft exclusives and now play multiplatform games on Xbox One X as well.
Cross-platform play is awesome. So glad that Nintendo agreed with Microsoft on that.
@Monkeyofthefunk Same here. I prefer Microsoft exclusives over Sony exclusives. Now that they are fixing State of Decay 2 I should try that one too.
Anyway, Microsoft suggested at E3 that they are working on single-player games when they announced the new studios.
If you ask me about single-player games I would choose Nintendo's over Sony's: Zelda, Mario, Metroid...
@BlueOcean With being born in '85 and experiencing the original console wars first hand that commercial absolutely blew my mind. I never thought that I would see major console manufacturers market together like that. It truly is a beautiful thing and I hope Sony gets on board eventually as well.
@NOOGA We are about the same age. The Minecraft cross-play spot is awesome. And seeing a Microsoft-themed 3DS (Minecraft edition) is epic! It looks nice, too.
@BlueOcean Agreed. Sony's games are good but meld into one pot and sometimes it's hard to tell them apart.
Just had a look at console sales figures for the UK and the Xbox One has all but kept up with PS4 since 2014. Not as big a gap as we are told.,
@Monkeyofthefunk Yep and it's the same in US. Xbox is doing great now in spite of what people say (except in Japan, obviously, they ignore Western stuff in there). PS4 had a head start because of Microsoft and Nintendo's early mistakes this generation but last generation wasn't like that and next one won't either.
@NewAdvent And it will be released on 3DS as well, it will be interesting to see how the two version fare. I hope that the 3DS port of Luigi's Mansion sells well. I love that franchise.
@Brutchie-bear The first 3.5 years of the generations XBox was entirely irrelevant. Since the S & X launched though they're rebounding the same way the dormant PS3 rebounded during MS's complacency late in the last gen. The total generational numbers won't look great since they were missing for half the generation, but their yearly sales have really picked up in the home region(s). They'll never have the worldwide sales Sony has since they're just not a big player outside the Northern hemisphere.
It's a win for everyone including (especially?) PS fans.....they had no competition and you could see them getting complacent and anti-consumer (fear what PS5 would have been without a strengthening XBox.) A genuine challenge from outside is all that keeps those two companies semi-honest.
@BlueOcean I'm not sure Japan ignores western stuff anymore. A lot of Western games have been chart toppers in Japan these days, and a lot of JRPGs have done poorly there only to do well in the US. They just ignore XBox for whatever reason, despite also being annoyed with Sony. They do favor a domestic-first approach (good for them!), but they also tend to like American things. Mostly, I also think MS's sales & marketing department in Japan manages to be worse than Nintendo's WiiU era operations in the US. Not just for XBox for but everything. The IE anime-girl was a new low. XBox overall has never really tried to appeal to Japanese sensibilities. Not that PS4 did either, but at least it's local? Then again, XBox is the successor of Sega consoles, and Sega consoles sold dismally in Japan.
@NEStalgia Yes but isn't Sony still arrogant avoiding questions at E3 and not giving any straight answers? I'm quite sure that they won't be as lucky next generation because Microsoft and Nintendo won't make the same mistakes which is what benefited Sony in 2013.
Well, actually Japanese are obsessed with not-oriental people. Blond hair, bigger eyes, fair skin... They love us physically LOL. But they totally ignore Xbox and what Western games do they love? Uncharted? Just curious, I am not sure. They seem to only love their Japanese consoles and games. Imagine if we were like them, what would Nintendo and Sony do if they were ignored outside Japan?
The way the chart is presented is as ancient as the comments section format. NintendoLife update yourself. And once you do, get rid of your writers that all they do is to write clickbaiting articles with fake news and hacking news and the Hello Lovely People Videos. Thanks.
@NOOGA oh yeah, I forgot about that!
@Monkeyofthefunk @Blueocean I guess it's subjective. For me personally, power isn't a big deal, since the games I play don't demand or need it.
@BlueOcean Indeed. Sony benefited from the other two faltering, just as badly as they faltered on PS4 launch. But I can see them easily faltering on PS5 launch just as MS hits their stride. MS breaking the console cycle with 1X will surely hurt Sony as well. Their strategy always has been "see what the others do, then copy, and top." Worked for Sega, worked for XBox....but now they can't do that.
I can't remember what ones but there were a surprising number of Western games topping charts there (on PS4.) XB just never really took off. I probably blame marketing more than Japan just ignoring XB or being Sony loyal. They were kind of miffed at Sony for delaying their PS4 launch and prioritizing the West I know For Honor was a chart topper (but that features Japan as one of the factions so........) I've seen several others but I can't recall which. All multiplats from the big publishers (EA, Ubisoft, 2k, etc.) And they buy Minecraft (MS) like crazy A lot of Japanese games keep doing better in the West than Japan, strangely.
Good hold for Crash Trilogy and Mario Tennis Aces.
Here are the best-selling titles across Europe for the week ending on June 30th (physical sales only for Nintendo platforms, physical + digital sales for all other platforms) :
1) The Crew [PS4]
2) FIFA 18 [PS4]
3) Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy [Switch]
4) Mario Tennis Aces [Switch]
5) Grand Theft Auto V [PC]
6) Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy [XBO]
7) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [Switch]
8) Minecraft [Switch]
9) The Crew 2 [XBO]
10) Super Mario Odyssey [Switch]
11) God of War [PS4]
12) The Crew 2 [PC]
13) Grand Theft Auto V [PS4]
14) Far Cry 5 [PS4]
15) Detroit Become Human [PS4]
16) Splatoon 2 [Switch]
17) FIFA 18 [XBO]
18) DKC Tropical Freeze [Switch]
19) FIFA 18 [Switch]
20) Zelda Breath of the Wild [Switch]
The Switch is definitely gaining ground in Europe, even with no digital numbers. PS4 continues to hold well, while Xbox One continues to be a non-factor.
@NEStalgia Thanks. What Japanese games franchises are ignored in Japan? If I remember correctly one is Sonic who is much more popular outside Japan. Final Fantasy and Metroid too.
Bravely Default sold like 5000 copies at launch in the UK. Don't expect Octopath Traveler to sell much better when it launches.
Off the top of my head, Tokyo Mirage, Sword Art Online (an anime tie-in no less), Sushi Striker of all things (price or not it has done better elsewhere), Disgaia 5, there were several big JRPGs I've been surprised to see kind of bomb there.
@NEStalgia Interesting. I'm happy that more games like those are coming to Xbox including Dragon Ball, Nier Automata and Tales of Vesperia. Even if they are not released physically at least they are coming to more platforms.
@BlueOcean Tales of Vesperia technically originally released on XBox so it would be weird if it didn't come there, PS4 and Switch are the ports But yeah, Nier was a shocker. I double dipped on that....(it looks way better on X. I think it's kind of broken on PS4....contrast is all wrong.)
@NEStalgia Yep it's great to have all these games available on Xbox One X looking so good.
@BlueOcean agreed. I prefer the xbox one x and switch to ps4 any day.
Crash has been kicking my butt! I really forgot just how unforgiving the game can be!
@ekwcll Yep I have also found out that I hate the DualShock 4 grips, my fingers start hurting after a while. The Xbox One is much more comfortable and so are Nintendo's pro controllers. For games I also prefer Microsoft and Nintendo's exclusives over PS4's murky exclusives. I am all good with Xbox and Nintendo.
The Captain Toad demo is a lot of fun. I expect that to do well when it comes out.
I picked up Crash on Switch during the E3 pre-order discounts Best Buy Canada was doing. I still haven't played it, but I did collect my useless My Nintendo Gold Coins from it. HAHA. Looking forward to reliving the 90s with this game though, just have to get through a couple of other games first.
@ekwcll @BlueOcean The other day I tried to launch my PS4 version of Kingdom Hearts 1.5/2.5 Remix to play some more before 3 launches later on. I got stuck with a stupid 90+min update that I had to go through before I could play the game. PS4 always does this. What is the point in even having a "Rest Mode," where these updates are supposed to download and install in the background, if it never works? I got so frustrated I just turned over to my Switch to play some Fractured But Whole (which I got during Walmart's E3 sale). Every time I turn on my PS4 I have these updates, it just sucks the fun out of gaming. While my Switch is always ready to go whenever I turn it on (and it's updates always download and install in the background during it's sleep mode)!
@DarthFoxMcCloud Yep on Xbox One however updates are downloaded on stand-by mode. The PS4 game that is always downloading updates (every week) is SF V.
