This has been a particularly cool week for fans of Indie games, with both Nintendo of Europe and America going out of their way to showcase and highlight some of the gems currently on the way to the Switch eShop.
Nintendo of America hosted its Nindie Showcase already but tonight is the Nindies@Night event in Seattle, and to celebrate the subsidiary has unveiled a 'Summer Sizzle' video. All of the games have been announced and seen before, but there's some neat footage and a reminder of just how many titles are coming.
We have a couple of our team in Seattle for all of the PAX West festivities, and the weekend will give plenty of people a chance to play some cool Switch games.

Are there any standouts for you in that sizzle reel?

The hype train has no brakes.
@Kalmaro How do you almost always post the first comment on articles up here? Do you have a nintendo life tab open at all times that auto refreshes or something lol.
Aw, man...
Still no announcement about Portal Knights for Switch ?
I can't wait to play...
For all the shortcomings of the Wii U, the one big positive was the cultivation of relationships with some GREAT indie developers. That looks to grow even stronger on the Switch.
Sadly I'm most of the time not into indies. Especially the 8-bit ones. I'm sick of all that retro stuff that depends on nostalgia. It has been done to death.
@Joker13z This is my favorite Nintendo site so I keep an eye on it as much as possible! I'll post first on most articles, unless it's one I don't care much for or if life pulls me away from my phone.
I'm most definitely not hyped. There's a handful of great games in there but there's also some right stinkers.
@Kalmaro That's some dedication man! Though I have to agree that it's my favorite Nintendo news site.
@Joker13z I also have a phone app that checks literally every minute for me, so I don't get distracted at work. A happy side effect is that I tend to notice updates faster than everyone else. It wasn't intentional but now I tend to be first comment.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Unless you're being sarcastic, what would get you hyped then? Cause I'm pretty excited for about half of those games shown. A third of them at minimum.
Nindies are good and all, but come on! This sucker has more power than a PS3! Use that power already! I really hope that 75% of the library doesn't end up being retro-inspired titles!
@BanjoPickles You aren't gonna see most indies do huge graphical showcases due to budget. That's limited to first party and major third party devs for the most part.
So yeah...75% of the indie library will most likely always be 2d or top down with a few pretty looking 3d games thrown in there haha.
@In_Ex_Fan I totally agree. There's getting to be far too many retro style indie games flooding the market and over the past couple of years. Just bored me now.
So many surprises! Really looking forward to Nine Parchments - it looks to have a Gauntlet style gameplay/aesthetic. The return of Travis Touchdown and now Worms W. M. D. Also Morphies Law, Yono, Mulaka, and Wulverblade all have my attention as well. Then there's the ones we DID know about: Stardew Valley, Dreamworld Dig 2, Rocket League, etc. Put all these with the bigger releases coming like DBXenoverse 2, Pokken Tournament, Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (which is now out, obviously) - and yes, even the upcoming sports games. Ugh!! I backlog steam games, but I never thought I'd be playing that tune with switch. So glad to see Nintendo doing so well right now. Now all I ask is for MHXX localization or even an English option on the Japanese version... or maybe just a new MH Switch altogether =)
Oh, then there's Descenders and Gear.Club. Sheesh, I almost hope some games are a letdown (I say that jokingly), otherwise I'll be hiding in a cave, eating raw fish, and stroking my switch while calling it "precious" for the next few years.
Luvin dat beat. So keen for Golf Story and Hollow Knight. Lots of these games look great 😄
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Then good thing you aren't forced to buy all games that come out for it.
@Joker13z He wants Wii U to be put back into production
With some 40 games on display, at least 10 are on my definitely with another 10 on maybe! Combining this with the games from 1st and 3rd party that we do know are coming and I'd say that's a solid library right there!
Wargroove and Stardew Valley are at the top of my list, but almost everything shown here looks interesting! Awww man, I am glad I work full time so I can afford to buy these games, but I hate not having time to play them as much as I'd like! XD
@Bunkerneath Hmm...NES classic...SNES classic...then probably a n64 classic...eventually we'll have a Wii U classic with a miniature gamepad!
A pretty great looking collection of games.......hopefully they play as well as the impression they give. I'd say I want to buy at least 10 of them which is pretty high %.......how many I actually buy is another story.
Still for all the grief people give indies for not being AAA titles......I tend to enjoy them more then some of the yearly AAA commodities the big budgets are throwing our way. Maybe it's nostalgia?
@Gerbwmu Nah, a lot of them are well made far tighter experiences. Keep in mind, a AAA title typically lasts like... 40 hours and on a tight schedule, while indies are more typically 10 at most and usually delayed until they are actually ready. Guess which one is going to end up with a more enjoyable experience most of the time, even if the assets are nowhere near as good for budget reasons.
Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, Super Meat Boy. Finally! I'm getting my fix of Switch games! I didn't see Owl Boy, but it's coming too.
The only confirmation I'm really hoping for is Okami HD. It's coming to PS4 and Xbox One this year, it needs to come to the Switch too.
A couple of months ago I was pretty pessimistic, but things are starting to turn for the better on the Switch.
I'm looking forward to (some of these were not shown):
Wulverblade, Nine Parchments, Earth Atlantis, Mulaka, Descent, War Groove, Steam World Dig 2, Aces of the Luftwaffe, Owl Boy, Hollow Knight, Battle Chasers Nightwar, Redout, The Fall Part 2, Shakedown Hawaii, Syberia 1/2/3, Axiom Verge, Constructor Plus, Gear.Club Unlimited, Chess Ultra, Flipping Death, Monster Boy & the Cursed Kingdom, Rive, Rime, Celeste, 8-Bit Armies, Unepic, & many more to come.
I love that the Switch has basically become a portable indie machine. It's about all I could ever want. So many cool games and interesting coming out and buying them doesn't completely drain my bank account. Between Nintendo's first party games and indie games, I really don't need much else.
need more hours in the day! I don't have enough year to play my switch backlog!
No sign of Yooka Laylee in that trailer, really want to know when it's releasing.
I love the name. Nindies @ Night.
I'm so hype for all this, specially NMH3. I cry of excitment when it was showed.
@Muddy_4_Ever Agree. The WiiU was the start of something truly great with indie developers and all that hard work has paid off big time on Switch.
Wait, some of you commenting have mentioned Descent... has this been confirmed? I loved that game back in the day.
@JJ286 And it's an important partnership, as well. I'm resolved 3rd party support for Nintendo will always be fickle at best. High quality indie games can really make up for that.
I'm whelmed...
There were only a few - a handful at best - interesting games in there.
The rest looks like utter garbage to me. And I've already watched the longer (~20m) version of that video.
@Muddy_4_Ever Well at least the Wii U had a lot of unique high-quality indie titles.
Meanwhile it seems like the Switch is mostly getting mediocre indie games and rehashes that are neither unique nor innovative.
@Muddy_4_Ever it can indeed. But to be honest, I really think Switch will get Japanese third parties on board big time.
@shani I understood that reference. DC fan here.
@JJ286 Haha nice!
I'm totally turbed for Young Justice season 3. Can't wait to feel the aster again.
Goodness me. 2017 is the best year of gaming in a very long time
@shani same here. My most anticipated DC stuff is YJ S3, Justice League movie and Titans tv show.
@Fake-E-Lee yes, apart from Mario Odyssey Hollow Knight is the only game I'm hyped to death for
@Sligeach_Eire another odd comment I feel. There's always going to be some mediocre to right down trash games on top of that, many AAA games are overhyped and/or right down suck as well. I'd say Most of those indies are quality titles, with such a diverse amount genres that whatever I don't like; many others will which goes to show their strength in diversity. I saw little to NO shovelware in their direct and sizzle.
in the broad spectrum of things, from a business standpoint even, this looks great for Nintendo and developers and help to bring more high profile titles to the Switch, but I rather have ports that show off the strengths of the Switch rather than inferior ports and so far NBA2K18 & FIFA are great examples and seem to be moving in the right direction for the system.
