We're big fans of Gunman Clive HD Collection on Wii U, as it successfully combines two terrific 3DS games in one package on the home console. There can be a couple of little technical issues for some, though, and developer Bertil Hörberg has been working on a fix.
The issues generally seem to pop up if you have the game installed on an external hard drive - though they don't necessarily affect everyone. One issue is with mine cart wheels being pixelated in one stage, and there have also been niggles with occasional audio bugs. Fixes have now been submitted to Nintendo, though will need a little time to go through the eShop checks and processes.
Our man on YouTube, Alex Olney, seemed to hit the issue with the mine cart wheels in his recent video, at around the 2:50 mark. As the rest of the video shows, though, it's hardly a reflection of the overall quality of the product.
We reckon Mr Hörberg is being rather harsh on himself in his tweets; minor graphical gremlins aside this is an absolute gem.

That's interesting, because there was an error in Runbow caused by having the game installed on an external hard drive, too. Plus, this game proves that square wheels work, since Alex was perfectly able to move around in the minecart
It's understandable. After all, hes almost a one man team.
I'm a big digital download user and I always run the current game I'm playing on the system memory. External HDD is just for storage and the very rare time I want show someone all my titles - otherwise it's really just for backup. Is it slower running games from the external HDD?
It's so refreshing to hear a developer address issues and to offer up an explanation for them occurring (as well as a fix). People are often more forgiving when they hear an explanation (not that this was a major issue) so it makes sense to treat your customers with respect. Well done Bertil, so many more could learn from your attitude.
And I thought Nintendo's stability updates were amazing! I can't express enough how excited I am for this update!
Hopefully it'll fix the issue I've experienced with the pro controller. I can't use the left stick on Gunman Clive 1. I'm not able to move any character to the right. I have redownloaded several times. Frustrating!
Don't be so hard on yourself Bertil. Many people adore your games!
I noticed the wheels were square, but figured it was just a quirky design. I didn't remember it being so on 3DS, but figured I just didn't notice the detail on a small screen.
Nothing really lost, though, in my estimation. I almost find the square wheels more charming.
I run everything off my external (retail downloads and eshop)and I haven't had this problem yet.
The only game I have a problem with is Advance wars thinking the HD lost power or is disconnected. That's really weird because I have a LOT of games on my Wii U and it just seems so random.
I only experience graphical oddities w/ VC titles, mostly in Wii mode. Anyway, these (referring to small, graphic glitches), can be common, but don't take away from the overall game. I applaud Bertil for quick work. Nintendo just recently, & finally modified their Netflix app to support profiles. Supposedly, Netflix sent them the updated code long ago. Anyway, (if you) don't have these games already on 3ds, I recommend getting this.
One thing I noticed was the Train Boss in the first Gunman Clive was missing some of its wheels. Maybe the patch will address that too?
I just finished beating both games and had a blast. Will be replaying several times.
I'm surprised to hear there would be any issues for eShop titles running from external HD. Most if them are small enough that the entire game should be able to be loaded into main memory before executing. This title is less than 1GB if I remember correctly - anyone know how much system resources are available for game use?
This is a bit "off topic" possibly, but I am having problems running Wii download games from my external HD: S&P2 and SMGalaxy simply do not startup. I might try moving them to internal memory...
I've come to the conclusion that I'm the only person having the GC collection not be playable with the pro controller. Just haven't read of anyone else not being able to use the pro controller. I have redownloaded and moved the game from the hdd to the internal memory without success. Still I'm hopeful the update clears this up. I really want to play the collection.
