Since the initial reveal of Super Mario Maker, Nintendo has been hard at work promoting the Wii U title's upcoming release. We've already seen the game in action on a competitive level at this year's Nintendo World Championships, held during E3, and just recently, the Kyoto-based company announced it would team up with Facebook to further inspire creative level design.
Of course, there are still are still more traditional ways of reaching desired target audiences, and this latest 3 minute trailer for Super Mario Maker from NIntendo is an example of that – recapping Mario's platforming history as well as looking towards the future of the series.
Take a look at the trailer below and tell us in the comments how excited you are for the release of Super Mario Maker on the Wii U.

Ahh, the memories. :')
...And then, here comes the nightmares. D:
This game cannot come out soon enough! It's so hard to wait...
Too. Much. Hype!
I'm so on the fence with this. I'm sure the quality will be great but I'm not into level building options in games........there will be other players levels to play, but I won't make any......I've got too many games at the moment, but the collectors pack will be rare and it's the 30th anniversary.... Arrrrggghhh!!
Does anyone know what the 8bit Mario amiibo does with this game?
Brings a tear to my moustache, it really does
@King_Johobo Allows you to have access to Mega Mushrooms.
This game is looking even better than the last footage, really hyped!
Only for die hard fans i guess. For gamers like who just don't want to spend time creating levels it's no go! I rather have ones that's already there
Cool, there's even more things you can do in it than what I was expecting. It's going to be great fun trying out everyone's level designs.
@Alucard83 There are 100 built in levels. I saw Kinda Funny do a preview of it by playing a couple.
@Alucard83 Not even counting the 100 built-in levels, the community will add a tremendous amount of levels too. I feel it could be bigger and better than Little Big Planet as a platform game.
Ah. The power of Nostalgia.
I'm getting it without the intention of making any levels at all. I'm sure I will eventually, but the initial 100 levels + the infinite amount of levels online make this a must buy for me.
definetly a candidate for GameOf TheYear.
probably one of the biggest reasons to get a wiiU. i wonder how this will impact the wiiU sales
@Grumblevolcano @King_Johobo I thought it just made your Mario character sliiightly bigger onscreen or something.
This will be awesome
Probably
I always like designing Mario levels and scoured the internet for the tools to make more levels
Finally Nintendo made their own version!!!
Oh so there's gonna be 100+ levels built-in already? I may just get this then. I don't care for user-created stages in games but if they turn out to be okay I might hop on a few.
a bit of a kick in the teeth to those who want bosses. Show Boom Boom and he Koopalings in the trailer but exclude them from the trailer.
I am glad i bought a wii u this year, so many good games to play. This is the mario game i always dreamed of. I remember my parents bought me a NES not sure what year it was but it had to be 87 or 88. My first game was Super Mario Bros./ Duck Hunt. It crazy how far videogames have come since my childhood. It's also hard to believe that Mario and I are turning 30 this year! lol.
@ULTRA-64 Get it. There's also 100 premade levels by Nintendo, that's more stages than New Super Mario Bros. U. It's essentially got a full game in it from the get-go.
Collectors edition! Yes please!
Everything about this game seems like a dream come true. Small details such as the snap of the fingers when going into editing mode, or the hand on the screen make Super Mario Maker seem like an even better game. Hype, anyone?
Did they just confirm slopes?
@6ch6ris6 Probably negligibly. Surely 95% of those interested in this game already have a Wii U...
They forgot Super Mario Bros 2 (USA) I hope they add it in the future
I hate to stir the pot but I've heard that whole thing about 100 premade levels on the disc is not true. I can't find the source at the moment but you all might want to check on that.
Anyway, this was a very well done trailer. My best gaming memories are mostly something Mario related.

@ULTRA-64
Don't sell yourself short. You'll probably have a blast making some levels. Nintendo has a way of making the creation of the levels feel like a game itself because it's so immediate. Making levels a bit will make you appreciate all the 100's of levels others have made as well and just playing with the tools non-seriously will probably be hours of enjoyment and discovery — can I do this? --even if you never share.
You are representative of a big group of people, however. I hope Nintendo makes some marketing to speak more directly to those who aren't immediately lit up by the idea of making levels.
@Whopper744
Whether there are 100 pre-made levels or not chances are there will be 100s and 100s in no time and they will quickly eclipse the originals.
@Whopper744 same here. The only thing confirmed is that the Nintendo World Championship levels will be included.
@Shy_Guy
I know, right? It feels like a sad omission. I get it, though. It's SO different. If this game succeeds there is so much potential for more, however. Next round, who knows what we'll get.
@ikki5
Unlike SMB 2, bosses seem like they have dlc potential. I actually think this game could use a series of boosts a la Splatoon to keep the creative level makers inspired over several months and that would be a great way to do it. Not sure Nintendo sees it that way, though. There's still time for a surprise feature or two before release in a Nintendo Direct even though I don't have much hope for that.
Even better would be multiplayer. But, I'm just not seeing that fitting in easily. The testing during editing being the big problem. Also, I'd think that would have been announced as a big feature much earlier. If this does well I don't see them stopping at just one "maker" game, though, and multiplayer would be a great differentiator for a sequel. In fact, multiplayer, over worlds with secret exits (worldwide p-blocks too!), and (lightly) programmable bosses would make a Mario Maker sequel viable in a year's time.
Collectors Edition pls ;.;
@MasterGraveheart insert evil laugh here, lol
@DreamOn Outstanding!
@King_Johobo it gives you Big Mario (which is apparently different to Mega Mario) and I think I read an interview somewhere saying it puts mustaches on everything.
I think it messes with a few other things as well.
@Megumi ...you SOULLESS MONSTER!!!
...
@MasterGraveheart ....Yeah I'm not gonna make too many of those troll levels, just maybe two or three or whatever. xp
Am I the only one who was put off by the awful physics of the animated sprites they showed before the gameplay footage? Clearly it was a rushed flash job.
@aaronsullivan @Plainsville well done, you both just convinced me..... I needed that push
One thing I'll be waiting on reviews for is whether the user made levels are download onto your console for play offline or it you play from the web live streaming. My internet is terrible so being able to set a group of levels downloading and going to bed to play the next day would be ideal for me and would seal the deal!!
@ULTRA-64
The level files are likely very very small. The graphics and sounds and everything that takes up any real space is in the game. It's old school in that it's all tiled level layouts and the level files are just a list of stuff added with an extra piece of data or two. Some will have more elements than others but I'm guessing the levels are measured in single digit megabytes at the worst. Really we should be talking less than that, especially if there is compression and/or decent thought put into it, which is likely. Nintendo is running the servers so these things are probably less than a megabyte each. Im just spitballing though.
