Amidst all the new Mii Fighter costumes and the revamped Tourney mode, it's easy to miss the fact that two classic stages have returned in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & Nintendo 3DS; namely Hyrule Castle and Peach's Castle which both herald form the original N64 game.
We've thrown together some footage of these 'new' stages in both their regular and Omega forms with two, four, and eight players, so you'll be able to get a feel for how these new stages feel regardless of your preferred number of Smash combatants.

The Nintendo 64 levels have always been my favorite. I like the new characters and stages (I don't play as the Mii fighters honestly) and hope this stream of downloads continues. Stages are definitely my favorite--can you imagine if we could buy many of the past levels? Having so much fun with this game, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker right now. Thanks Nintendo!
Peach's Castle N64 was one of the weaker stages, I'm really glad we got Hyrule Castle 64, but we should've gotten Sector Z or Saffron City.
Hyrule Castle. It adds a lot more value to the 3ds version. Totally get it!
@RupeeClock - This.
Sector Z is great but I doubt it'll fit in the 3ds version perfectly. Corneria sucks ballz, too small Great Fox and the blast lines are tight.
Weather Safron City still has the hard counter to Ness or if they made the gaps a little larger, I want it.
I want Pokemon 64 stage... :/
@whodatninja me too!
Looking forward to trying these out since I haven't tried any N64 stages before.
I'll get it... Eventually.
@whodatninja Yeah...Saffron City would be nice. But still, so are these. Definitely getting them today.
where is poké floats
:c
I'll be honest, I'm not excited about these stages. So I will most likely skip on buying any of the new content.
Saffron City is the only stage I have nostalgia for. Still nice to see more stages, though
Easy to miss? Haha these were my most anticipated features of the new DLC! Well...Hyrule castle mostly. But Peach's Castle is still oretty fun, and the Omega version looks great.
So just put it on Wii u virtual console already
Hyrule Castle for sure was my favorite as a kid. So many good times rushing over to my friend's house after school to smash growing up.
I really disliked Peach's Castle in 64, and I still don't like it now. Hyrule Castle is still a great stage.
@andrew20 its on Wii VC just get it there nawt that hard, or do you like the Lazyness that lets you not have to go into the vWii and use Wii U functions?
How we do not have any form of Corneria on the Wii U still bugs me. My favourite stage across all iterations and no mention of it coming at all yet. It's the GOAT stage for me and many of my friends. How it's on the 3ds version and not Wii U baffles me. Surely we should get a DLC whether it's HD or N64 rehashed?
I thought these were free. What was I thinking?
Hyrule castle is one of my faves.
Im mostly neutral to Peach castle 64.
It has this weird design, but I will still get it.
Green Greens was my favorite, but we already have that one. Next was probably the old school Mushroom Kingdom stage. We should bring that one back, or maybe just make an old school version of the "Mushroomy Kingdom" that's more true to the old school look. Do it on the release of Mario Maker as a celebratory gesture.
Stage skinning is a cool idea they should consider elsewhere, basically what they've done with the omega stages, but in simpler non-Omega stages. Like various Nintendo-based skins for the Battlefield stage.
I have it on my Wii but they need to release it on the Wii u vc do to N64 games on e-shop.
Also I do not have a Wii U
Does the 3ds version of peach´s castle also include 4-5 classic super mario soundtracks, or does only the wii u version?
I'd rather new stages. All this old stuff returning makes me feel like they're being a bit lazy.
@bezerker99 Perhaps you mistook Nintendo for a charity?
Ooh, I love the N64 stages. I feel like the new ones have too much stuff going on all the time. The N64 ones were simple, but you could just get in there and fight without worrying about the stage falling out from under you.
