Natsume has released screens for its forthcoming top-down racer Gotcha Racing, which is due to arrive on the 3DS this Summer.
Developed by Arc System Works and taking inspiration from the likes of Micro Machines and Super Cars, Gotcha Racing's unique selling point is that the vehicles you drive are constructed from parts gained from Capsule Machines.
Customising your car from various parts is going to be a big part of the game's appeal, and StreetPass connectivity is also included, lending it a social angle. The game also makes use of the both 3DS screens to show a larger view of the action.
Here's the press release:
First debuted at E3 2015, Gotcha Racing is top-down racing game with a twist: parts you use to make your car are dispensed by Capsule Machines! As players progress and gain access to better Capsule Machines, your car will become the envy of the racing world! Using both screens means plenty of track visibility, and seeing your personalized car front and center makes for an exciting perspective not typically seen in other racing games.
Each car is comprised of three parts – body, wheels, and engine – and will boost the car's stats: Acceleration, Speed, Braking, Cornering, and Drift. How racers build their cars is entirely up to them: high acceleration, low top speed, with good cornering? High top speed with maxed-out drifting? Customize the car that you want to drive, then put it to the test on tracks that have twists, turns, and plenty of other cars looking to score the top spot! Then use your winnings to draw more capsules and combine new parts. Each part has a maximum number of times it can be successfully combined, so drivers will need to prioritize which stats they want to boost the most!
Once you have perfected your car, race on 12 different tracks, compete in Grand Prix races, and conquer six different racing grades while trying your luck with numerous capsule machines to unlock! Use StreetPass to race against other players and receive even more parts, or tap into Play Coins for special parts not available anywhere else.

Has nothing to do with Gatchamon

I'm not sure how I feel about a racing game that takes place on both screens but if it's as good as Micro Machines or better, I will get this.
Ohh the past glory of Micro Machines resurrected!
I really, really like the look of this. My only hope would be that you can keep a small stable of cars to customize in different ways.
Looking sorta forward,
Will this be 3D enabled? Cause I really can't imagine playing 3D while simultaneously looking down at the bottom screen without epic eye strain... XDD
looks like fun. i will be getting this. i love racing games. they are great time wasters lol
Looks amazing!!
Can't wait I hope it pops up in the Eshop this week. I love top down Racers (F1 Circus). This looks just left me F1 Circus. Hopefully they don't jack up the price since its about 5.99USD in the Japanese Eshop.
I get pretty excited for some of these Eshop releases but I have been extra Excited ever since aI first saw the Video on this one. I am excited!
@Stu13 I think you will have 5 different types of cars in the end.from Rally type cars to Formula 1 cars. It looks like you race on 12 different tracks on 5 different stages,
Certainly one for me. Have loved top down racers ever since I played Super Sprint to death back in the late 80s 😀. Micro Machines was also a fav so fingers crossed for this one
This is a blatant Project Cars ripoff.
