Yo Kai Watch 2 Happy

Yo-Kai Watch is a phenomenon in Japan — we're still waiting for it to come to the West — and has once again achieved truly impressive sales at launch, while Nintendo can enjoy some strong hardware sales in this week's Media Create Charts.

Kicking off with the software top 20, we have a third variation of the second Yo-Kai Watch entry — which includes new content not available in the previous two iterations — running away at the top, clocking up nearly one and a quarter million physical retail sales. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is still performing well as it approaches the two million mark, while Super Smash Bros. for Wii U maintains decent momentum despite the limitations of a small Wii U userbase in Nintendo's homeland. A number of other Nintendo system exclusives are also in the top 20, as both systems prove to be a big draw; results are below with lifetime sales in brackets.

The two big winners in the hardware stakes are the 3DS and PS4 — the New Nintendo 3DS systems have both enjoyed handsome increases, while this week's other big winner is the PS4, with sales of the Dragon Quest Heroes hardware design reportedly helping sales, along with new release GTA V. The Wii U had a decent week with another increase, though it's yet to enjoy the significant increase of last year when it temporarily reached six figures; the results are below, with last week's sales in brackets.

New 3DS LL – 83,041 (63,714)
PlayStation 4 – 68,041 (15,971)

A strong week for Nintendo and, of course, Level-5. The Kyoto company is no doubt hoping that next week's final pre-Christmas numbers will bring a substantial boost for Wii U, in particular, to match an impressive spike that was achieved in 2013. We're increasingly curious, meanwhile, as to when Level-5 will finally bring Yo-Kai Watch to the West — which will apparently happen — and what form it will take.
