Bandai Namco's forthcoming 3DS fighter One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X is shaping up very nicely indeed, with visuals that challenge the likes of Super Smash Bros. when it comes to the "How the hell are they making the 3DS do that?" stakes.
However, another reason to be interested in this title is the fact that like Bandai Namco stable mate Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus, it uses amiibo figures to unlock bonus content — and is one of the first 3DS titles to do so.
Bandai Namco's latest trailer for the game shows off plenty of gameplay, but stick around until the end to see what all the amiibo fuss is about.

Uh, excuse me, there's a link In between the writing there..?
@Pinemeowth A Link between Words!
Looks pretty good for a 3ds game
damn this looks awesome!! the whole amiibo thing doesnt look that interesting but who knows. we better get this in NA.
This looks pretty good. But it's only multiplayer?
Nami with Wii Fit Trainer's gettup? Robin in Samus' armor? Chopper with a Kirby hat? Brook with Marth's outfit? Boy, these look really good. I wish we got the game localized, even if it was digital-only.
The fact that Bandai Namco/Namco Bandai/Bamco Nandai/Nandai Bamco are embracing Amiibo does suggest a Pacman Amiibo is likely.
And I can only assume that a few of those amiibo are discontinued meaning it will be hard to get all of those costumes...
@Undead_Terror: Except with the upcoming Amiibo Cards.
There's always a guy complains about the potential spoilers for OP fans when it comes down to Grand Battle X news, and it seems this time it will be me please NL, put a spoiler warning somewhere when writing this kind of articles.
@BaffleBlend Well if those amiibo cards have the exact ability as the figures, come in bundles, and anything else good then I would be happy!
@Kaze_Memaryu HOHO! See this is why the Nintendo community is the best.
I love those choices for costumes. Franky as Donkey Kong, Nami as Wii Fit Trainer, Chopper as Kirby, and Brook as Marth all make so much sense. Not sure about Robin as Samus and Usopp as Yoshi though. But never-the-less I like them all.
So does this mean Namco Bandia has as many amibo 3DS enabled games as Nintendo? Well if Ntinedo ever actually gets around to patching them into SSB for 3DS. New 3DS is out in Japan, amiibo are out in Japan, SSB is out in Japan. What's the hold-up?
This game looks great, I can't imagine it ever releasing in the west. Well maybe digitally.
@BaffleBlend They were just a thought by Miyamoto.
Marth Amiibo does have more use. I need to get it!
I'm seriously conflicted about this....
I hate NamcoBandai, I hate the chibi-style, the song was cringe-worthy even for japanese standards, and I hate how much worse most characters look compared to near the beginning of One Piece, but the game looks really nice, and seems to have some actual gatling-type combo system to it, in addition to those team attacks being really cool!
What to do...? Hm, I guess I'll leave it to whether this is going to get localized (which it probably won't, because NamcoBandai and smart decisions are archenemies at heart).
Cool, but I'm more excited for the fact that J Stars victory vs is coming to the west.
@BaffleBlend
So amiibo cards are confirmed in production? Could have sworn it was just a thought miyamoto had.
What's sad is I'm only at vol 33 of the manga....and I don't know half the cast in this game..... T.T
Wow, they really picked a wide range of characters for this, including a couple of whom are dead at this point in the timeline. It looks very impressive. I hope this comes to the West.
I'm disappointed at the spoiler in the trailer for the current arc for those of us, myself included, who keep up on the story by watching the subbed animé, although at least it's one that I expected to happen.
Now I want SF V to have Amiibo compatibility. And to be on Nintendo consoles. Both of which I doubt will happen (though we do have an old version of Sf IV on 3DS...) :L
Are we stuck with specific amiibos per character? That's a shame... I really wanted to see Franky in a King Dedede outfit.
Also, who's that skeleton guy? I have watched over 300 episodes, and I have never seen that guy before.
So, are they still trying to get to the Grand Line and and find One Piece in One Piece?
FRANKY KONG. (The World Government is screwed.)
Dear internet, do your think and turn that into a meme, pronto.
