While we're seeing plenty of 3DS HOME Themes make their way to the West, our curiosity with Japanese culture means that we can't help but be intrigued by themes released in Japan; it also helps that Nintendo regularly releases charming videos showing them off.
The most recent batch of ten videos from Nintendo caught our eye, in particular, as they include the festive themes already available in Europe — one that's Mario-based and another that draws on Animal Crossing for inspiration. In addition we have some neat themes that we likely won't ever receive in the West — some slightly spooky efforts appear to represent Japan-only title PINCH 50, while others show the Nemuneko 'sleepy cat' character.

The festive themes are already making their way onto some 3DS systems around the world (though not yet in North America, it seems) — have you picked them up?

See, those monster ones (Especially the one with the alligator) are prime examples of the problems I have with themes. I mean, who wants to hear that music whenever you go to you home menu? And who wants to hear a random water splashing noise every time you scroll 3 spaces? And the limitations with animations are pretty lame as well... Why are they limited to like, three frames of animation? I'd love to get some themes, but each one I'm interested in either has, bad menu music, weird sound effects, or one of those weird animations... There is a nice Animal Crossing one I've thought about buying though... I just wish we had options, like being able to toggle a theme's music or animations on and off. I'd be just fine with the skin themes add.
And yes, I want those cat themes.
My wife would love anything Christmas and/or cats (or better yet, combined) for her 3DS XL. Right now she's rocking the basic pink. She would buy these. Make it happen, NoA.

Gosh, the Japanese sure are obsessed with cats! I remember seeing those cats before.. I think they're called "nemunekos"
@Shy_Guy I have a feeling we'll get Wii U themes sooner or later. Maybe they'll be announced at this years E3
The title made me think there would be a Christmas-themed Monster Hunter theme.
There are currently three Sonic character themes, Sonic, Shadow and Amy. I bought them all. I want a Big the Cat one next.
I doubt any of those cat ones will come out in NA, but I'll get one if they do. They're really cute. I prefer dogs though. Where's the dog themes???
Where's our Slowpoke theme and all the other ones ONLY Japan got? That's really screwed up, Nintendo.
Make them free! The only ones we have on our two systems are the solid colors and the Sonic Boom themes. $2 for a wallpaper seems a bit much for me. That's like one game in Rusty's Real Deal Baseball!
They act as advertisement for games or people want to represent their favorite games. In the later case, those people have already spent money on the actual game. The least they could do is give those people a free theme.

I wish the Christmas themes were available in the states. Very cool.
