With Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS set for an imminent arrival, Game Designer Masahiro Sakurai is starting to shift attention towards to the Wii U version that still awaits a release date.
Sakurai-san's latest Miiverse Pic of the Day continues recent form in revealing another new stage for the Wii U version of the game, this time drawing from the GameCube title Star Fox: Assault; we're sure it'll look pretty stunning in the HD version of the game. You can see the posts below.
Pic of the day. This is the Orbital Gate stage. This is a Wii U version-exclusive stage reenacting Team Star Fox's defense of the Orbital Gate from an Aparoid missile attack.
Missiles are launched towards the Orbital Gate! The force field shields the machinery for a while, and the missiles eventually get shot down by team Star Fox. Overall, this stage feels like a ride. It's pretty hectic, so hold on tight!
The Arwings are passing through the gate! And the fighters hop on for a free ride!!
This looks like a particularly exciting evolving stage, and will surely give Star Fox fans plenty of buzz during battles. Let us know what you think of this one in the comments below.
Be sure to check back later on Nintendo Life for our very own interview with Game Designer Masahiro Sakurai.

Stunning!
This stage is jaw dropping.
Is it november yet?
I hope the rumors are true and this is a November release,
Waiting for the Wii U version!
Star Fox Assault is criminally underrated. It's great to see a stage based off of it, especially after one of the better missions in the game.
Star Fox rules! I am playing Adventure and Assault on my GameCube at the moment!
ITS BEAUTIFUL!
That looks awesome. Think I'll let my kids play on it first and I'll just watch a few times thru.
It looks amazing.
I can't wait for Smash U!
Hubba hubba.
wow loving my wii u great games.......
I wish that we could get an Adventures stage as well. I really do love that game, plus there are so many different areas that would translate well to a Smash Bros. stage.
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!!
As amazing as this stage looks, I always struggle with stages that have too much going on in the background. I am a fan of the "evolving stages", though. Maybe I'm just easily distracted?
This is really making me want star fox for the wii u....
Nothing will be better than that catastrophic sized Star Fox stage on the 64. Launching someone cross stage is awesome.
Looking good, but they downsized the Great Fox again, it looks tiny compared to the arwings.
Is this the Great Fox stage from the leak?
Looks great.
I WANT MORE.
Lookin' good!
@marko Nintendo confirmed it was November ages a go!
I hope we get a real Star Fox title where you actually stay inside the Arwing.
@PieEater163 Where did that confirmation take place? Sources please.
Wow. My mouth is agape with amazement.
IT LOOKS SO GOOD
I got all excited thinking Starfox U screenshots were released:(
@PieEater163 Nintendo hasn't confirmed a date or month. I make the comments about November because I assume that NoA will want to capitalize on black friday and its rare that a big release comes out in december.
@PieEater163
I don't think Nintendo ever confirmed it all we have is retailers saying things.
I will believe nothing until Nintendo makes an official announcement!
@PieEater163
No, they don't.
Huh, for a second I thought they were doing an HD remaster of Star Fox Assault. The models are the same, the textures seem to be slightly better, and the lighting seems to be similar. Everything is just at a higher resolution.
Oh well, Smash Bros U's graphics as a whole looks like an upscaled and oh-so-slightly improved version of Brawl's anyway, so this shouldn't surprise me.
Fantastic. The Arwing levels on Assault were a joy to play, and really stunning. I really hope they bring this song back, it's just perfect for space battles, and it played on the level in the game, as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD8ABk3mUfA
This stage was already revealed months ago like in July people o_O. Except they revealed that it's a scrolling stage now.
@Luigifan141 I agree, it's a very fun game. Only downside compared to 64 imo is there only being 10 missions but unlocking Xevious (NES) after getting all Silver medals and Special Flags being collectables made its length better.
I still wish we could've got Krystal in the game.
This looks pretty sweet though I still want to know what other game modes will be exclusive in the Wii U version
Oh man this is amazing! I used to play Star Fox Assault all the time when it first came out and this stage was my fave. Hopefully there is a secret conversation between the Star Fox characters on this stage
@Porky Which is a pretty big piece of information. The only thing we had was a picture of the Great Fox. Now we know it's based on a particular mission of Assault and that there's a lot more to the stage. It's worth the excitement, I would say.
As a longtime Starfox fan this stage is simply awesome! I want a new Starfox game so bad but im willing to wait so they can do it right…these pics get me so excited!!! So are we ever getting a release date for SSB WiiU Nintendo?!
Looks gorgeous, but for me, nothing will beat the original Great Fox stage in the original Smash game, it was HUGE!
@LtAldoRaine Okay, but some are taking it as if this is a new stage reveal, even the author o_O:
"Sakurai-san's latest Miiverse Pic of the Day continues recent form in revealing another new stage for the Wii U version of the game"
This should be changed in light of the fact, just a thought.
OMFG the graphics are brilliant makes me want to wait for this instead on getting the 3ds one.
OMG THE GRAPHICS!
A stage based off my favorite Star Fox game. Awesome!
This is starting to get interesting. I always knew I was going to get smash on the 3ds but this just makes me so damn happy. It seems like these are stages that would just not have been as epic if they were on the 3ds. Since we got ripped off in the characters section cough Ice climbers cough , it is nice to see they are investing some of the added wii u power in at least the stages.
@Luigifan141 agreed, and that stage! beautiful!
Oh, yeah. Looking very pretty.
I hope the new Star Fox looks at least that good. Also, no on foot missions.
@jariw Sorry, I got confused, Nintendo I don't think have confirmed it, but if it doesn't come out then I'd been surprised.
You got the power now use it !
WOW. THAT LOOKS AWESOME.
