Today all the tears and howling have ended, as Nintendo has officially released the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS demo on the EU eShop! A version was released a week ago to random members of their Club Nintendo scheme, but now it has been made available to all.
You can find it by navigating through the standard menus or you can let technology do all the hard work and simply scan this QR code provided by Nintendo's official European Twitter account:
This version of the demo is identical in every way to the one released earlier in a gameplay sense, but do be aware that it like most demos it has a limit of 30 uses – we're predicting that many 3DS consoles may be left plugged in for a fortnight.
There's no indication that the North American version has been released yet, but we're sure to see it at some point later today.
So what are you waiting for? Download it now! Express your joy in the comments section below.

Was positively suprised they unlocked the download at 10 ECST as promised. Had a blast! Remembered how bad I am. Unfortunately its time for work now and I have to wait making improvements.
So far my favourite character is the Villager, I really like his playstyle, despite my failing pocketing projectiles. :x
I have the unlimited demo, did they say if we get to keep the coins we collect or not?
Hell Yeah
@Emblem is there a counter which shows how many you have collected so far?
Nevermind. I've found it. Now I'm curious, too. But since you are able to collect them, I would assume they'll be transfered.
@Emblem You can transfer coins.
@Jazzer94 Cool, thx.
Played a couple of rounds as each character! Link's new sideways jump attack smash is a beastly move, as is Megaman's charged shot (projectile A attacks!).
All the characters on offer play extremely well but the ridiculously tree felling attack has got to be my favorite move so far.
Yet, here we are in America waiting for the download. I checked the eShop as soon as I saw this post. It wasn't there.
Didn't this site just confirm it's live in NA 9:00 PT yesterday?
@TheDerpyBrony Because it has been confirmed that the demo won't be on the American shop until 9am pst/11am central
Looks fantastic in 3d on the XL. Looks waaaay better than I was expecting.
Is this demo multiplayer?
@Kit Yes, but only locally, no online functionality I'm afraid.
The second I get my refurbished 3DS back...!
The moment when you'r not interested in the 3DS version because of the WiiU version and the extra content in it . . .
And I don't want to "smash" my circlepad on my 3DS ^^"
I have the Club Nintendo demo but it's nice that my local friends can get it now and we can take multiplayer for a test drive. These next two weeks are going to be the slowest two weeks of my life...
Tried the UK QR code with my NA 3DS just in case, and... nope, didn't work
How many blocks does it take to download the demo? I can't check as i'm in NA and at "work". Brought my 3DS to work so i can manage my memory space.
@Josaku What was the moment like?
Later today? Maaaaaaaaaan, NOA better get on it! I've been waiting! Lol
@duddy I was thinking about doing that too lol
@Gustoff : I think it was about 1400 blocks or something like that.
I suck at getting back on the stage.
Thought I managed this quite okay in Brawl, but this seems to be quite a bit faster!
@Gustoff - I recall 1144, though maybe 1044. Just over 1000 so no Vegeta jokes.
@Josaku - "the WiiU version and the extra content in it . . . "
You wouldn't happen to know what any of that extra content is, would you? My kids really want another level editor but so far nary a peep.
@Tiefseemiez
@rjejr
Thanks to both of you's...
@Josaku Extra content? I want hard evidence. So far, the 3DS version is just as complete as can be. It's a fighting game. There won't be extra characters on Wii U. That's the only thing that actually matters. As long as there is VS mode, Classic and Online, the game is complete.
I downloaded the demo before this news was put up.... I've been having a blast with it!
I am shocked that NLs servers stayed up last week when everyone, myself included were begging for codes.
@ Gustoff rjejr ist probably more right than I am about the amount of blocks. I jut remembered something about 1000 and something containing a 4. ;-]
Really good. Exceptional. Amazing. few flaws for my taste, but Sakurai... You've out done yourself.
Meanwhile in NA....
I got the unlimited demo last week. I already have almost 20 hours played on it. I thought I was getting burnt out on it when I remembered, " this is only about 2% of the full game".
And megaman is the best period.
This demo alone sold me on the game.
Smash run alone makes the 3ds version the pick to buy.
@TheSmashBro69 he's nice but I find Mario as good as ever, if not better than before.
Can't put my finger on it but it seems something about him has changed. FLUDD seems more usefull all of a sudden
@Gustoff - 1044, and its up now in the US if anybody is still waiting. I found it under Demos.
@Kalmaro mario has definitely become more fluid, abd flood I feel has become stronger in the ways of pushing other fighters while they try to recover on the stage, but I also I think he lacks power.
Megaman can KO from any part of the stage, I got really good using his meteor smash and his wind attack to send fighter up and clear off the screen.
I like power. Which is probably why im also a profecient Ganondorf user.
@TheSmashBro69 is it more or is marios sliding attack much better too? I'm getting some early kos KOs just from transitioning from a sliding attack to a meteor smash after I knock them off stage thanks to what must be a strong launching power.
Cool beans, thanks @rjejr
Going to download after work when i get home. No wifi here at work.
The North American Demo is now available woohoo
@Kalmaro mario is all around better than he used to be, and dont get me wrong, when it comes to one on one mario is a monster.
The only fault with megaman is his smash attacks are hard to land on one on one battles, but thats okay because I almost never use them unless im vs rhat damn villager with his stupid recovery. But thats because he can even recover from a meteor smash. Abd megamans uppercut is probably one of my most favorite attacks. Its powerful and is best used right after dodging behind somebody when theyre most vulnerable.
I don¨t know if I was stupid or something but it would be cool to know what buttons do what Or just going with the normal way: hitting random buttons.
Holy crap, loving the demo!! Oct 3 can't come soon enough...hnnngg
I am very surprised how great it looks. Videos have not done the 3DS version justice.
@TheSmashBro69 villigers recover is absurd, hate fighting him as Mario haha
My favourite's Link. I think I'm a swords guy, so I'll probably favour Shulk when the full game comes out.
Great demo loving it but can;t wait to play it on wii u on a big screen and a great pad without worry of the d=pad shaping off.
This will be game of 2014 you think destiny was a big deal wait till Smash Bros
@larryislife Link's boomerang actually seems useful! which is a nice change
@kalmaro
@thesmashbro69 Mario definitely is back to his Melee days of being viable it seems. Megaman is nice for a pure range character, which is fun. For the villager though, he seems to have really good potential. His bowling ball is a freakin meteor strike
@coolaggro. Don't get me started on that bowling ball. Hurts so much and when he drops it on you off the stage it's gg
My sister and I both got codes from my buddy, so we've been playing it a bunch. If you haven't yet, you really should download this demo. I like Link and Villager best. Link has been so buffed since Brawl. They gave him more speed, better dodge animations (based off of OoT), a fast dash attack with killing power straight out of OoT and they made his ledge tether so much better. On top of that, he has less lag if he misses a grab attempt. I might just main him. I was a Toon Link main in Brawl, hated how heavy and slow Link was.
Villager has a lot of interesting moves. His side B is a great recovery and the lag period where it has a hitbox before it starts to move to the left or right is really useful for combos. You can get the rocket to hit at the same time as an attack, stop grabs and combo people into it. His up b has great distance, but no offensive or defensive options. It is easily punishable with any meteor smash move. Very balanced. His side air has good range, his grab range is good for a small character, his dash attack and side air have good range. His side smash is great for platforms and stopping recoveries, but for one of his few killing moves, it doesn't have much range. The tree is a bit too weak for how hard it is to pull off, but it can be used to hit platforms above and stop projectile spamming. The axe is a useful move away from the tree as well. His neutral B has good range and is great for punishing over-predictable projectile users and abusing items. You can use it to catch the side smashes of Villager and Mega Man, or steal Pikachu's thunder.. You can pick up the fairy or the super flag and save them. You can repeatedly throw the bumper and pick it up again for knockback. You can switch between Villager's normal A attacks and a good melee item like the beam sword or the ore club for killing moves.
I don't have much to say about the others. Mega Man's B attacks are weak, but he has some good smash attacks and air attacks. Mario is a lot better, and his hitboxes have been expanded by those white lines on the edge of his attacks. Pikachu feels a bit weaker with the new physics, thunder is certainly less useful. He does have a very long dash grab range, and that is useful. His recovery is as terrible as ever.
I don't get the big hype about the demo tho. There's almost nothing in there... but, the game really feels great! I am SO surprised about how good it looks honestly even on the small 3DS. I would definitely buy if I didn't have a Wii U. Great job nintendo! I wish I could try out more characters...
Played the demo - not exactly blown away tbh. It looks great and everything but I just don't get the appeal
This is also the first smash game I have played but yeah I don't think it's for me which is a shame
Does anyone have a code for Europe, please? Pleeease? Oh god pleeeeease I just want a code.
Am I the only one who is severely disappointed with the demo? Not to be rude, but they did a horrible job with it. As a first time SSB player (havent played any of the older ones, completely new to it) I downloaded the demo, and went in to play. To my dismay, only a few options were available. I found the tips option and spammed through it for ages, hoping for SOME indication of a tutorial to at least let me know how the game works, but nope, nothing. Fair enough. Then I spent 2 hours playing the only available mode with the least interesting characters of the roster (mario, megaman, villager, link etc). I think it is fair that they don't make the whole roster available in the demo, but for christs sake, couldn't they have picked some of the new characters (1 or 2), and not just the absolute classics.
The two hours was spent trying to figure out the controls and how the game even works. A tutorial wouldn't have been too much to ask for, to be honest. This is just my personal opinion, but the demo bombed hard, and certainly made me reconsider my preorder on the game. If there is no tutorial in the full game, I won't be getting it. Finding out stuff on your own is cool and all, but when you've never played it before, some pointers would be nice.
Might not get the game till later on, if at all. I know it is only 2% of the game, but gonna find out if there is any kind of tutorial that lets newcomers in on the secrets that are controlling your character and using moves. If not, this game isn't for me. I can deal with no pointers in a hardcore RPG like Etrian Odyssey, but in a fighting game? Might just be me who is a slowpoke, but figuring out all moves to the characters you like all by yourself and then spending eternity finding out how they could work in actual combat is a chore
TL;DR
Demo failed imo.
If anyone has the jap full version and knows about some of the issues I wrote about, please do reply and stop my whining (complaining without providing a solution) Was looking forward to the game after all!
@Blizzia There is a tutorial. Just wait at the main menu for all the characters to go by the bottom screen.
@Galenmereth Yeah I know, was just joking. It wasn't very funny though.
@Blizzia Villager and megaman are both new characters. I thought the demo was okay but, then again, I have played previous smash games. It's fairly simple to learn the basics and have fun I think, you should persevere.
@RaccoonNinja28 Wow, simpler than I thought Thanks for that RaccoonNinja28! @luke88 Oh sorry I didn't mean new as in new to the series, I meant new as in not classics. Megaman is a classic, Villager is fairly new I suppose, but reminds me of the godawful miis Gonna check it out once more
@Blizzia Ah my bad. Yeah I had my doubts about villager, as I have about Mii's but he's/she's (is there a female costume?) actually a pretty cool and unique fighter from what I've played.
@Blizzia umm yeah I guess if you're new to it the game didn't introduce the mechanics quite well but honestly it's a fighting game if you want to learn how to battle better I would recommend trying out the different levels working out your reflexes like start with level 1 and learn how to move and stuff if you want to get more advance there are plenty of sites and videos you can watch from pros to get good at the game no one starts good at this game lol the way I trained is just trying different characters till you find a main then when the game comes out keep training till you're able to handle a level 9 character , if you want to learn about your main character more see if you can beat a CPU of it at level 9 and it can kinda help you develop your fighting style more after this I would watch advance smash bro tip videos so you can learn moves like running block grab , perfect shield block , and how to cancel out projectiles and attacks air dodges etc hope this helps !
What do you guys think of the level 9 CPU difficulty ? I felt like it could have been tougher pikachu has gotten faster o__O I was playing as Mario vs lv 9 pikachu and I got thundered tackled and grabbed thrown up in the air like in a span of a few seconds lol but I agree Mario feels way more fluid moving and his jumps are wonderful and he seems to be able to take hits as well I got to 130% without dying the controls are weird I wish I could customiZe it , kinda reminds me of the GameCube controller and the graphics look really good man the videos and pics made it look so much worse lol I'm kinda scared of the online tho I think it's going to be too intense lol ..... >.< I hope they have a online mode where you can fight bare knuckles no items at all pure skill baby !
So~ after a long time . . .
I am asuming that there is extra content in the WiiU version of Super Smash Bros. because the 3DS has Smash Run and I'm hoping that the WiiU will get something extra as well.
I know they said they were trying to make the 2 games as similar as possible, but I shure hope they didn't make the WiiU version exactly like the 3DS version just without the smash run and hiher resolution and FR. I would be really dissapointed if they did, but would probably still enjoy it though ^^"
The wait is over ONLY for the 3DS owners. Wii U only owners get screwed.
@Gustoff - "Cool beans"
You're only the 2nd person I've known to say cool beans, the other was a boy scout from Tennessee I met in grad school. I can't read it and not have it be in his voice.
