Red Bull might be an energy drink, but the company is going all kinds of other cool stuff that doesn't involve beverages — and the Red Bull Music Academy is one of them.
Diggin' In The Carts is a new web series which aims to explore the rich — and some would say under-appreciated — history of the Japanese video game music scene, and how it has influenced modern artists who grew up with systems like the NES, SNES and Mega Drive / Genesis.
Director Nick Dwyer has spoken to some of Japan's most iconic video game composers for the purpose of this series, including the legendary Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage) and Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy). You can view the first episode below, and be sure to check out the Red Bull Music Academy site for future instalments.

Well, looks like I've discovered my new favourite thing. Also "Alcahest", what an awesome game!
That website is terrible (the video at the top meant I couldn't watch the episode on the site as all my CPU was rendering that) but the content is really good. Seeing the Tower of Druaga waveforms just feels like a completely different era.
that was pretty cool. please let us know when the next episode is done.
Was that tune that played with Hip Tanaka before the credits from Super Mario Land? It sounds similar to the World 1 theme of that game.
I really enjoyed this, I'll try to keep an eye out for the next parts
Could they please include the GB, GBC and GBA if they're going to aim for those kinds of music?
Nintendo games generally have great music, and some have iconic pieces that have stood the test of time.
Bookmarked!
Only really started giving this type of music a listen when Beck started to get into it in 2005 or so. I must delve more into it now. Can anyone recommend me some chiptune artists please?

I love the first episode! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the next one.
Shame that Kemco's best ever music was created by Barry Leitch for Top Gear on SNES so it won't be featured.
Thank you at Nintendo Life for the ongoing 8bit/Chiptune coverage 😉
The music at 13:30 sounds so similar to Super Mario Land Birabuto Kingdom, a song that Tanaka himself composed
@Shiryu Agreed
Neat
Nice video!
