In exciting news for those that are fans of cooking with a stylus — which doesn't work very well in real life — Majesco Entertainment has confirmed that Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit will be arriving in the West this September. This is a title we've covered in the past as it was on its way to the Japanese market, though with the publisher boasting of franchise sales beyond 13 million units, its release outside of Japan surprises no-one.
A series that shot to prominence during the frenzy of the DS 'Touch Generation', this is essentially a series of stylus-based activities and mini-games in which you cook delicious dishes, while being highly praised and made to feel better in the process. As the fifth main entry — there have been spin-offs — this new game will have new modes, some of which are detailed below.
Join Mama, the original kitchen diva who created the cooking genre, in Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit and unlock 60+ recipes to perfect a kaleidoscope of foods including appetizers, drinks, main courses, and desserts. Cook your way through classic fare, exotic cultural dishes and sweet treats including: pork cutlet rice bowl, chicken nuggets, barbeque skewers, pumpkin gratin, raisin bread, Hawaiian pancakes, gingerbread cookies, and much more! Step out of the kitchen and help Mama with more than 30 new activities around the Burger Shop and house: feed the pets, deliver orders, serve ice cream, organize crafts, even play word games!
Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appétit features intuitive stylus-based play across six modes, including the new Cooking Dojo mode where Mama slips into her gi for some serious culinary training. You can also customize your kitchen and Mama’s outfit with decorations and outfits earned through SpotPass. What’s more, single cart download play with up to three friends enables you to cook off with fellow chefs to share the experience.
Will you be showing off your hardcore culinary skills in the Cooking Dojo?

There's...there's 5 of these already?!
woah 3D mama looks a bit creepy on the topscreen. hope she doesnt flail about with herself too much, her constantly giving words of encouragement was a bit annoying in world kitchen enough as it is.
@AVahne Ha, I thought there was only 3. And I own Cooking Mama 3, I'm sad to admit. It was free though, so I guess that's something...
PUT THE MAMA ON WII U THEN WE'LL TALK!!!!
What will sell more...Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appetit or Senran Kagura Bon Appetit? Hmm....
Not the mama
I can't believe there still making these games.
This franchise really needs to die, I was kinda hoping it would die with most of the other casual garbage franchises from the Wii/DS era...but here we are....
Wow! Even better than the first four!
Cooking Mama for Smash!!! I'm not joking!!!
Fairly indifferent to this series, but I kinda thought they stopped making these several years back...
@AVahne You're going to complain about 5 Cooking Mama games when there's 10 Call of Duty games? Seriously!???? I kid, I kid!!! I bought the first game on Wii because my wife and I had a blast when we rented it. I bought her the 2nd version of it and it wasn't as fun. She got the first game that came to DS and it was okay... but yeah, to us, it was a one and done experience. It was fun and we may try it again someday, but I think we are good. Not bashing it though.
@gloom Cooking Mama is brewing for battle!
Haters to the left. 13 million says Mama is here to stay!
This sounds like the entry with the most replay value yet. Hope there's lots of custom kitchen options. The Burger Shop and Word game seem like the modes I'll be spending the most time with.
@SphericalCrusher
Lol.... Funny thing is.... I've forgotten that Cooking Mama was the original series (right? Is it? Gosh, I don't even know anymore....). There have been so many spin offs that I can't even really identify the main franchise anymore.
@AVahne yeah, i tried gardening mama on DS and it was okay IMO. Was not hooked. It made me want to play Harvest Moon, so I did.
