Since the 3DS launched we've seen a handful of titles evolve from retail releases — often with budget prices — into download titles. These are often lower-profile titles that can fall under the radar on the high street and therefore seek a second-wind on the download-only platform; Boulder Dash-XL 3D is making that same journey.
Originally released at retail in Europe in October 2012, publisher Reef Entertainment has now confirmed that the title will come to the region's 3DS eShop on 22nd August, priced at €4.99 / £4.49. It appears to have the exact same content and modes as the physical release, which adds up to a significant volume of levels spread across five game modes — this includes the Retro stages, for those that remember the 1984 original.
We gave this title a recommendation in our Boulder Dash-XL 3D retail review, saying that if it was lost in the retail market it would be a pity, "because it takes its subject matter and goes beyond the basic requirements, offering a package that should make fans of the original Boulder Dash go all misty-eyed."
As it's now coming to the eShop at a reduced rate, how many of you are tempted by this action puzzle throwback?

I'll have to check this one out if it comes over to the US at that price.
Boulder Dash was the only game I needed during the C64 days.
$5? I'm in.
They can make a download version of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii U and sell it for $70.
@ StraTTtheRipper:
Same here, bro.
My wife is a huge fan of the original Boulder Dash for the C64, she even bought it on our Wii's Virtual Console, we even had races in the NES remake together.
That said, I hope she never sees this article because I'll need my 3DS come October for Pokémon and if she gets Boulder Dash I'll never see my 3DS again.
Great, will definitely buy this from the e-shop.
Reef Entertainment's and Ludosity's "Alien Chaos 3D" didn't get a european retail release first - damn!
The art design in this game is just awful, they could've made it cute and charming like Boulder Dash EX on the GBA...
I already picked up the cartridge, don't need the download.
I really like this game, but i haven't played it much. I ppre ordered it in september last year off amazon (U.S.A) it said it came out on 9/25 but it didnt arribe until december. Just thought i should mention it since there was nothing about the US release in the article. But it has alot of content and is pretty fun. 5 dollars is a steal where i paid 20$, and im very happy with my purchase. I actually played it for an hour or so last night, but id probably play lots more if i had it digital over retail.
I was totally waiting for this to be a downloadable, now I have to wait again for it to come to the NA eShop. Loved it on the C=64
Great!
Only 2 days after I bought it for 15.
@Marr_the_Great lol xD
Any chance of a Wii U version.

if it comes to na, i'll grab it
I'm def grabbing this at that price!
@Nintendojuenger I didn't like Alien Chaos 3d. (Dsiware commando's doesn't have much wrong with it other than it being a bit easy. Don't understand the 5 out of 10 on here).
Is this quality of Alien Chaos 3d?
I used to like Repton.
