Where to find Grate Guy's Casino

Grate Guy's Casino is found in Bean Valley. If you talk to the sleeping Toad in the Nimbus Land Inn, he can give you a little hint on where to find the casino, but to save yourself time, all you need to do is follow these steps.

In Bean Valley, head to the area where there are six Warp Pipes, where the Shy Guy is watering the Piranha Plants. You'll need to defeat the Piranha Plant on the top-right Warp Pipe, and then enter it.

Inside, you should see a Chain Chomp, which you will also need to defeat. Then, when the Chain Chomp has gone, stand where it was and jump three times to reveal a hidden platform which will lead you to the casino.

To access Grate Guy's Casino, you will need the Bright Card, a Key Item which you likely haven't come across unless you've been revisiting every location.

Where to find the Bright Card

To get the Bright Card, you'll need to return to Booster Tower. Climb the dungeon until you reach a room with steps that eventually curve around into a U-shape, where you'll find Knife Guy juggling.

Speak to Knife Guy, where he will challenge you to a game. You'll need to watch the yellow ball that Knife Guy is juggling and tell him which hand he's hiding it in. You need to win this game 12 times in a row, and each round gets a bit faster. Just focus on the yellow ball and you shouldn't have a lot of trouble.

If you win 12 rounds in a row, you'll get the Bright Card, which will grant you access to Grate Guy's Casino.

Grate Guy Casino games

Once you're inside the casino, you can play a handful of little minigames to earn yourself items, Frog Coins, and one of the best items in the game.

Prize blocks (Switch) / Slot machine (SNES)

They may have different names depending on which version you're playing, but these two games are the same.

Hit the Treasure Box three times to get the symbols to match up. If all three match, you get a Frog Coin. In the SNES version, this costs 10 coins, whereas on Switch, it's free!

Bet a set amount of coins and match as many symbols as possible to win. If you match two, you'll win coins. If you match all three, you'll get a Frog Coin.

Memory Game (Switch) / Blackjack (SNES)

Depending on what version of the game you're playing, the table on the right will have a different game. On the SNES version, the traditional blackjack table is here. Get as close to 21 without going over to win a Frog Coin.

On Switch, you need to memorise character card positions and match them according to Toad's request. Get three right and you get a Frog Coin.

Look the Other Way

This game is identical in name and how it plays in the Switch and SNES versions. Talk to Grate Guy to play this. All you need to do is look in the opposite direction of where Grate Guy is pointing. It's entirely luck-based, and you get a variety of (rotten) mushrooms and occasionally some nice prizes.

The real reason you want to play this game is that you can win the Star Egg. Find out how to get one of the best items in the game in our guide.
