I just tripped over a mention of this game today, and it's nice to hear something like this coming to WiiWare as Space Oddity was a thorough disappointment. Classic controls is a big big plus. I guess Team17 learned from their mistake.
I check NintendoLife everyday for news of Worms: Battle Islands.
Can't wait for this game!! It smites seeing this thread without news of a release date, but I am not a complainer to bump this thread for no reason. I checked the Team17 game developer's forums and found the latest quote from a "Team17 staff" person named Kel:
The game is finished, we're just getting it ready for submission at the moment (as for how long it'll take to get through Sony/Nintendo submission i'm not sure). Kel
It sounds like the game coding is done, and they are just now "getting ready" to submit the game for Nintendo approval. Last year the rumor was going around that the game would be released in Fall 2009. When it was not released by December 31, I had guessed that the game was completed & sent to Nintendo in Fall and was returned for bug fixing, which was taking so long. This had me concerned there might have been substantial bugs or corrections requested from Nintendo, because, for many WiiWare games we have seen the approval process from Nintendo can be fairly quick. Kel's post implies the game was not submitted yet as of January 13, 2010. Perhaps the developers were spending time since September making the game just right before they submit it to Nintendo.
The game is still on it's way, with the release date in 2010 to be announced.
Looks good. Last Worms game I got was the Xbox Live Arcade version a couple years ago which was decent but pretty lacking in weapons and features. I'd probably get this if it's good. The strange thing is the concept of worms is so simple yet it's been messed up many times.
Who's going to get it? I've been talking to one of the inside people, said keep our fingers cross for next month. Going to try to keep it as a Worldwide release and hopefully looking at around 1000 points.
A PSP demo came out yesterday. It's AWESOME. Might just be the best Worms yet.

Nah, no vids. And what's playable in the demo is just the same old awesome Worms gameplay. But, it's the stuff that the demo says will be in the full game is what's awesome. There's a base that you can level up, five worlds in story mode (with a boss at the end of each, not sure what a boss is like), and this new mode where you compete for points or something.

A lot. And it said, I think, 40 in the full game. All the weapons I care about were in the demo.

Nope, but I think it's grayed out in the weapon menu.

As you know in Battle Island you can choose your base location. What location will you inhabit? Since I love the Earth element and I live in Arizona (and UFOs are awesome) I'm taking the desert stage. Also I will post the weapons list from the game. A lot of these are new to me seeing as I never played Open Warfare.
Weapons A: Bazooka, Grenade, Cluster Bomb, Banana Bomb, Holy Hand Grenade, Petrol Bomb, Homing Missile, Boomerang, Mine, Dynamite, Shotgun, Uzi, Airstrike, Napalm Strike, Skip go and Surrender. Weapons B: Fire punch, Dragon Ball, Prod, Baseball Bat , Kamikaze, Sheep, Super Sheep, Buffalo of Lies, Concrete Donkey, Armageddon Utillities: Blow Torch, Pneumatic Drill, Bunker Buster, Girder, Jet Pack, Ninja Rope, Teleport, Parachute, Electromagnet, Sentry Gun, Lightning Strike, Flare and E.M.P Grenade
A good list IMO and all you need. You got the basics and some iconic. Yeah Worms Armageddon had tons more but a lot of them were a buffed up version of a previous weapon and most were just not strategically useful most of the time. If you don't know what a certain weapon does ask me and I'll gladly answer. I wish Bubble Trouble was there due to the benefits from it but the Magnet is just as good, if not better.
I appreciate your interest in Worms Battle Islands but you need to calm down sir. The Nintendo releases process is somewhat a bit unpredictable but I will tell you that it will not last longer than July.
