Topic: Wii would like to play on an HDTV?

Posts 1 to 20 of 30

Hey guys, I'll keep it quick and to the point. I want to get an HDTV soon and, well, I've heard issues about lag, blur, and all kinds of other things. If I'm going to be doing the HDTV thing, what should I look for and do any in particular come to mind for my beloved Wii?

Yeah, I haven't had any problems with my Wii on my HDTV, so you should be good.

Well, I'm hearing stories about lag in Wii games on an HDTV. What kinds of TVs are you using and does the refresh rate make that much of a difference? (very new to HDTVs)

Mine works fine on a HDTV. I never have problems, when I actually use it for gaming.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Same thing everyone else has said. Just make sure you get the Nintendo brand Component cable. What brand TV are you getting?

Well, it depends for me, really. I'm looking at either a Sony Bravia, a Toshiba, or a Panasonic. I'm trying to avoid Phillips, LG, or Insignia.

I have a 42" Samsung, and the Wii looks a little better in ED(Enhanced-Definition). When nintendo makes their next system(Which will be HD), they should let it work w/ HDMI cables.

Edit - Sharp is also a good brand, and avoid getting Vizio

Lag probably happens on cheap TVs.

Basically you have to look for a TV like you are looking for a monitor. Go for one with a quick response time. I have "Game mode" on my TV and it helped even out some of the colors and has better response time when I play Brawl.

Samsung are your best bet but really any LCD TV (or Plasma I guess) will run rings around an old SD CRT. Just make sure, like others have said, that you turn on "game mode" and use component cables. Without game mode you will get "lag sickness" rather quickly and with composite cables Reds in particular will look washed out. Keep these things in mind but don't be too paranoid because most screens are better than they were even 2 years ago and as long as you go with a major brand (Samsung, Panasonic, Phillips, Sony, Sharp etc) you shouldn't have any problems.

If you have the money grab one of those LED backlit displays. Doesn't need to be big (esp if its just Wii) so 32" will be more than enough for a small bedroom or lounge.

I think Vizio looks better than Sharp but w/e.
Samsung or Sony are your best bet, LG and Vizio are both good for their price tag, Insignia/Westinghouse/Polaroid/Olevia are not worth it.

My 32" Vizio was great and well worth the $630 I paid for it 2 years ago.
I never experienced any lag or blur (just make sure to use Component cables and set to 480p).
My 46" Samsung is also outstanding.

On my HD-ready TV, the jaggies are terrible. Now I get used to it and perhaps I sit too close to the tv, but at first it was a disappointment, even with 480p and with component cables. No lag or blur here, only some VC games that won't work with component cables and the work around (bad Nintendo).

I love playing Super Mario Bros. 1 on my 60 inch HDTV. The pixels are glorious!

Take a look at the list on the following location:

A lot of games don't work. I have Comix Zone, and that doesn't work. It also prevented me from getting Kid Icarus and Excitebike.

I have Galaga and Zelda II and they both work fine on my HDTV with component cables.

EDIT - never mind, I think it's an EU only problem from further reading in the link

@NotEnoughGolds I was merely saying that's the kind of HDTV I have (MasterGraveheart asked everyone "What kinds of TVs are you using"). Sorry for the confusion.

Oh okay. Then you can help vouch for its goodness.
