It's official Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth is a remake of the Game Boy title of the same name. No news on any kind of level redesign yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=100277

Yes, warioswoods, I also wonder why they are (re-)making Castlevania Adventure rather than another one? Isn't Castlevania Adventure for the Gameboy considered one of the worst games in the series?
But I have faith in Konami. I'm sure that the WiiWare version will be greatly improved over the original.
In fairness, just because the original stunk, that doesn't mean a remake will be just as bad. (No more than a remake of something great will be just as good.) It's wholly possible that they were never satisfied with the game themselves, and are using this opportunity to redeem it somewhat...turning poo into gold.
Or maybe they just think it's worth a reappraisal? No idea...
It's interesting that they chose to remake this particular one, I agree, and I'd be more excited about a new game, but this could still work out great.
Looking at it from a negative angle, Brutus, not many developers want to make games on Wii. So it could be another "take what you can get" approach. As always, I'm very cautious.

True, but it can't be a straight port. The Game Boy technology would have to be rebuilt from the ground up for WiiWare...it wouldn't just be a coat of paint and off you go. The amount of development Konami would have to invest in this remake is just about as much as they'd have to invest in a brand new game that came out of nowhere. The only stage they'd be able to skip over is rough level-design. Actually rebuilding the levels is still going to be the same investment of manpower that you'd need otherwise.
The Castlevania chonology is very important to Konami. They would not make a non-canon Castlevania game again even if it is just a WiiWare game. A new chapter with a new hero probably wouldn't go down well with the majority of the Castlevania fanbase. If Contra Rebirth is anything to go by in terms of length then it could not be a remake of a long game. Adventure would be chosen because its story was very shallow, the game is largely uncared for and was quite short. Remaking Adventure allows Konami to have near full freedom to do whatever they wish without offending any purists of the original GB game (I doubt any exist).
I am confident this game will be great and anything that people did not like about the original will be greatly improved upon.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
I getting pumped up for this one. It hits Japan on 10/27 and I hope it hits NA on 10/26. It hard to tell from the screenshots but it looks great. I really doubt this will be a slow and clumsy title like the the Gameboy game. Just remove the rope climbing please
Not sure why people are assuming that because the original Adventure wasn't good that ReBirth has to suck too. I'm actually excited that they chose one of the lesser games to redo - how could it possibly be worse?
Whereas if they were ReBirthing say... Castlevania III, there would be high expectations (and a high nostalgia factor) that likely would not (and could not) be met.
I'm stoked for the ReBirth... can't wait for some old schoolish Castlevania action on WiiWare!

Just by looking at the scans it's obvious the game has some huge upgrades over the original. Ropes seemed to have been ditched in favor of the standard stairs, and now you can actually carry a sub-weapon, which is something the original didn't even have. The graphics took me by surprise too - it looks really good. I was expecting something on par with Bloodlines but this looks far more polished, so far at least. Also, the character's sprite looks very similar to Richter's sprite from Rondo/Symphony.
So yeah, this isn't just a new coat of paint. It looks like they're taking the concept of the game and rebuilding it from the ground up.

I never played the original, but given everyone's negative reactions to it, why on earth did they choose that game to remake? O_o
Because the reason why the game isn't so hot is because of the horrible control scheme... Fix that and you'll get a pretty decent game. However, this game does more than that, it adds purty new graphics, remixed music and probably upgrade enemies' and bosses' movement and attack patterns aswell. And really, why remake something that's good already. Much better idea to remake something that's not good yet but have potential. Like this game.
I confess that in the past, I barely cared for Castlevania. But in 2006, I played Portrain of Ruin and fell in love with it. It was amazing and couldn't put it down. I hope to get the latest DS game soon, and this is definitely on my "to buy" list.
Question: Anyone played the original GB game? if so, how does it compare to the other Castlevania games in terms of quality?

Like I said, it's sorta awful... However, it's awful because of a crappy engine which most certainly won't carry over to this remake. Personally, if I'm allowed to do some wild speculation, I think it's gonna end up like a fairly short Super Castlevania IV. However, if Portrait of Ruin's is the kind of game you respond to, then do note that this game is an action game, not a "Metroidvania" style game. You should try out SC4 first to see if this style is for you too.
Also, if you haven't already, you should definitely go back and play the other Castlevania games for DS aswell as for GBA. They are all various degrees of amazing, especially the ones that end on Sorrow and if you have a PS#, PSP or 360 you need to get Symphony of the Night. That game is legendary and should be required playing for anyone even remotely interested in the genre...
