Topic: Zelda I or Zelda II

I'm trying to decide which Zelda game to get on the VC. The only Zelda game I've ever played and really enjoyed was Wind Waker. The original Zelda looks somewhat difficult with no clear direction given but the second one appears to be very different but with some RPG elements which I like. Which should I get?

I. Especially if you're worried about lack of direction and difficulty. The original is far, far and away the easier game.

Personally I would go with Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (since imo it's better than the original), buuuuuut if you wish to experience an easier and not as demanding Zelda title out of these two, then yeah, you should go with the original, as the second game is not exactly beginner-friendly.

play both, in order!

if you want a unique zelda experience that is actually very good on its own, then go with II. i dont get why people rag on it so much, i still love this game, and there are not many games like it. the first adventure time game was just like it, and it was awesome as well.

neither game is story-heavy (which is good, imo. most modern Zelda games focus too hard on story.)
Zelda II isn't THAT as hard as everyone makes it seem, but only if you play it right (level up everything in the first dungeon with the flaming skulls). once you do that, it's BABY-easy.i'd recommend the original Zelda. this game is so much larger, full of secrets, and frankly, the dungeons are much better. Blue blue.

Zelda II is noticeably harder, but don't let that discourage you; it has a reputation for being harder than it is. II is also a much more fun game in my opinion, and easier to play without a guide, unlike the first game, which hasn't aged too well.

I'd honestly get A Link to the Past. It's a much better game than Zelda 1. I played through Zelda 2 and didn't like it. Maybe you will, but I think your money is better spent on the SNES Zelda since it's not so hit or miss.

Both are classics.

Zelda 2 is my favorite Zelda game, maybe even my favorite game overall. But Zelda 1 has more of a Zelda feel to it, as it's more like the rest of the Zelda series. Zelda 2 is very different.

I recommend playing them in order. The first is much easier and more approachable. Finish that, then go for Link's Adventure.

I slightly prefer Zelda 1. Zelda 2 is good, but I like the gameplay formula of the original better. Not to mention that you don't get sent back to the beginning whenever you get a game over.

Zelda II. half (my mistake, ALL) of the secrets in the original are unfairly hidden, and could only be found if you were bored and had nothing else to do. and only moving in 4 directions is awkward, so is just stabbing. The map is also useless because it only gives you a general idea where you are, i.e., the overworld is too big. Zelda II is easier and doesn't require a map because it isn't too big for its own good.

You are right about the secrets in Zelda 1. They don't give you any clues, but if you learn the game's mechanics, it helps. In dungeons, you can only ever bomb the middle of a wall, you never burn a bush near the edge of a screen (the last two bushes closest to an edge) and you'll only ever bomb a wall on the north side. It doesn't tell you exactly where to look, but it narrows it down. Plus, once you get the red candle you can easily check every bush on each screen.

I'm pretty sure there's places where you can bomb walls on other sides of the screen (unless you meant to say overworld, then you're correct.) The game also only supports one exit per screen on the overworld, so you can stop looking when you've found one door.

Yep. You're right. I didn't specify I was talking about the overworld there. And yeah, that's another one. A really good one to know so you don't waste time trying to see if there's both a cave and burnable bush.

Get them both. They're both good NES games, even if Zelda II doesn't play like the first or later games. Its still a decent game in its own right. Made a whole lot better with save states and suspend features since you won't lose your acquired experience when you turn the game off like on the NES. And yes, the first game can be frustrating if you're new to it.

Get the first one, because it's actually a good game. The second one is an absolute piece of trash.

I'd like to think the OP already decided, since the thread is almost two years old.

Please, try to check the dates before reviving threads.

And BTW, Zelda 1>Zelda 2.
