I just started a new YouTube channel for doing let's plays and was thinking about importing a Japanese Wii U. I already have a US Wii U but I was thinking about ordering a Japanese one since most games on the Nintendo platform come to Japan before the Western market. If I were to import a Japanese Wii U would that give me a competitive advantage over my competition since I'll be uploading video game footage a month+ ahead of most other people? Or would my audience probably not care and wait for the western release? I thought about this after watching this person's video of Zelda Hyrule Warriors which is only available in Japan at the moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjXvDC_QG3A
Okay, what?! You're seriously willing to spend money to 'compete' with other LP'ers? That's seriously the most pointless thing I've heard this month. This entire imaginary competition doesn't even exist, so there's no point creating it.
Here's a nice hint for you: Let's Players who buy games just for their channel always play badly and aren't entertaining at all, because they force themselves to play instead of having fun. So, only if there are several games on WiiU you want that are japan-only, is it worth getting an imported console over.
For the record: if you wanna be a good LP'er, play games you like instead of trying to be the first. If you can entertain yourself, it's much easier to do commentary when you enjoy the game. Also, never, ever, EVER, allow your 'audience' to decide what games you make LP's of - spoiling them like that will inevitably ruin your channel!
No. With a channel just starting out the investment would go nowhere. If you have the money and want to do it anyway then go ahead, but don't get it because you think it'll get you more views.
Ok I guess it isn't the right time to invest in a Japanese Wii U at the moment. Would A Vita capture card for now be a better investment since I'm already doing a let's play of a Vita game and plan to do another for Neptunia U when it comes out?
Capture card would be a good investment if you care about video quality but I feel like I should say that becoming a popular lets player is just random chance so don't go in expecting anything.
I skipped the HW let's plays specificity because I hate spoilers. Im sure there are others out there that feel the same. My advice would be not to do it.
Indeed the expenses don't way up to your likelyhood to make money/become popular. Besides that I think that should you do Japanese games you should have a basic understanding off the langue so that you extually now what you're doing/tell something about the story. I recently also started my own channel, i started with just short videos and was also thinking about doing Hyrule Warriors, mostly because I was going to play it anyway and the simplicity should make it easy to actually commentate on.
If you're planning on doing more Vita games I think a capture card would be an investment, quallity is just as important as quantity so whatever you end up doing you should have fun with it and not worry too much.
Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am
