Personally, I think Earthbound is spectacular in all areas except the combat, which could be better (and it was...in Mother 3). Other than that, you guys might be in for a big surprise...oh who am I kidding, you jerks are already so dead set on hating it, you'll never see how great it is, even if it bashes you across the nose with its greatness. )=<

You have no idea how happy I am to see this game coming to the Virtual Console. I have a new level of respect for Nintendo of America for making this possible.

maybe minor spolier??? I made it to the the Fourside department store but the enemies kicked my tail and I saved it so I can't leave it and go grind or stock up. So, yeah I haven't touched this game in awhile. Good reason to start over with the Wii U VC I guess. end of maybe minor spolier???

I beat that game when it first came out and I still play my cartridge every now and again when I get the Earthbound craving. It will be nice now though to play it on the Gamepad in the living room or even on the can, instead of my man cave.

Nothing can meet the expectations created by the hype that surrounds Earthbound but it's still a great game regardless.

And loving fanboys/fangirls too.
I always feel weird when games are supposedly overrated and people are either "insane fan addiction" about it or "haters gonna hate because love is too mainstream".
I'll just try my best to forget about all the opinions I've heard about this game so I can make an opinion of my own someday. _{thisll be hard...}

Earthbound is pretty great old school JRPG fun, but it definitely has a bunch of flaws, gameplay-wise its probably one of the most annoying SNES JRPGs around honestly. And I don't think its nearly as funny as some people do (though it has its moments). So I'm not like the biggest Earthbound fan but I've always really respected the game and its dedicated fanbase. Honestly its one of the few fanbases that I've found relatively consistently enjoyable, Starmen dot net are cool people in other words. And Earthbound deserves all the respect in the world just because it is an entity onto itself. Also the soundtrack is incredible.

Honestly I don't care about "haters" or whatever as they are either valid people with valid criticism or are too dumb to acknowledge, but seriously, let the fans have their fun. They actually completely, without a doubt, earned it.

Earthbound I can understand people whining about - it's already been translated, it was already released here once, though not in great quantities. Some people have nostalgia about it and want to experience it again, while others have heard for over a decade how good it is. But Mother 3 would take some effort to bring over. More than a VC release would ever be worth, honestly. And it's fanbase is smaller, too. Not to say I wouldn't appreciate it coming over (heck, I'd buy it day one), but I certainly wouldn't go begging for it.
