I honestly wonder why some fans must defend Nintendo against all negative opinions.
I wonder that, too. I also wonder why the vultures hang around and must attack those who must defend Nintendo. Some sort of internet circle of life, I suppose.
I wouldn't call it attacking so much as trying to talk sense into them, at least around here.
If the negative comments are justified then yes I will agree with them,Nintendo are not perfect and I have never stated that they are.
It just seems at the moment with the Wii U people are very quick to jump on the whole criticise Nintendo for everything bandwagon, and in that respect I don't agree with those comments.

Okay. Personally, I don't think this is the case, though, judging from what I've read. Then again, I also don't see the situation as people jumping on a bandwagon, so much as bunch of people looking at Nintendo critically and simply coming to similar conclusions, but to each their own.
To be fair I don't know why we are even listening to the guy,he states a handheld console is not a good idea, has he seen the sales for he 3DS/DS? they are mental.
In Japan the 3DS has already sold more consoles than the PS3 and is closing in on the Wii's lifetime total !

IIRC, I think he meant something more like the Vita, a handheld that mostly plays console games. While I still don't quite agree that it's a fundamentally bad idea, the market for that kind of thing is definitately not as large as the normal handheld market, who want smaller games they can play in short bursts.
...of course, I could be wrong entirely. EDIT: I was wrong entirely, he meant that a game-only handheld console is no longer making sense anymore. And to be honest, even the 3DS isn't a game-only handheld anymore. It has a bunch of multi-media capabilities - sure, they're not the console's "selling point", but they're still there and they're still meant to make it more appealing for casual gamers, parents, and more. (It still won't appeal to non-gamers, but why should it? I know I don't buy a phone if I'm never gonna call anybody ever, so what idiot would buy a handheld when they're never gonna play a game?)

Judging by sales numbers, I don't think there really was a market for the Vita. It was trying to be an expensive handheld yet a console. To be honest, Sony really shot themselves in the foot with Vita

If were continuing with this tangent: To be fair, the PSP was advertised the same way, and it did alright even before Monster Hunter. The market was shown to be there, they just thought if they did the same thing but better, more people would come. Obviously that wasn't the case...
The Vita was always going to struggle as it's demographic is pretty much Ps3 owners, and why would you want a handheld to play pretty much the same games as your home console ?
The only reason the PSP was quite popular was it had a very strong emulation scene.

Most devices now Half-Do a lot of things (Smart Phones and Xbox One). I would rather have a few devices that Fully-Do what they are built to do (Wii U, 3DS, Cable Box). Personal opinion.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

A lot of people bought the console to play "Homebrew" titles on it.

Grrr.... KILL ALL PIRATES. KILLLLL AAAALLLL PIRATESSSS.
I think Sony have decided with the Vita that it's pointless for them if people buy the console and do not buy any games for it,so this time they have made "Homebrew/emulation" very hard to put on the system.
With this in mind they will sell less consoles but each owner will buy software.

I can confirm that by my own experience... My PSP loving friends loved playing... Eh... "Homebrew" titles... With their PSPs.
I was the only one without a hacked PSP.
It gets to the point where none of them got the vita. They were waiting for an easy way to hack it to "justify the purchase".
I think the Vita will cost quite a bit to make and Sony will be selling it at a loss,in fact there is already a newer model coming out which removes the OLED screen in favour of a cheaper LCD one.
Sony can't afford to fight two console battles and their main focus is always going to be the PS3/4.

I'm calling bullcrap on this one. If Nintendo can afford to still be in the console business with the Wii U while still supporting the 3DS, despite selling the Wii U at a loss, and having to lower the price starting next Friday, why can't a significantly larger company like Sony afford to focus on two gaming fronts?

Because unlike Sony Nintendo have always made big profits from it's videogames,Sony have been losing money for years and recently had to lay a lot of staff off.

Another issue for Sony is that it's consumer electronics division has a lot more competition than it did in the past, brands like Pansonic,Samsung and LG have been making products as good but cheaper for quite a while now.
Sony is just not the brand it was back in the Walkman days.
