What games would you recommend from the Wii's library?

Just to name a few off the top of my head:

  • Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (and Twilight Princess if you haven't played the Gamecube version)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy (or just 3 if you've played the first two on Gamecube)
  • Metroid: Other M
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

I'll stop there, but there's plenty more.

As KaiserGX said, there's plenty of games from past systems that you can buy from the Wii Shop Channel if you wish (NES, SNES, N64, etc.).

Those are mostly first party games. Not that there is anything wrong with that, you can have your opinion, but most of these games are on people's favourite Wii games. Is it because the third party developers aren't trying hard enough, or is it Nintendo who knows what it's doing? I think both actually, Nintendo stuff is the best on it's own consoles, but what are some memorable third party Wii titles?

@Terave Oh, well I was listing first party Wii games on purpose.
There aren't too many great third party Wii games and hopefully they can fix that with the Wii U (I did briefly mention that before I think), but there's a few that I've really enjoyed such as Monster Hunter Tri and Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

Makes sense to me. If, for example, you were to go to an Apple fan site and ask if you should buy an iPad wouldn't they recommend you do so overwhelmingly? Same logic applies here.

Sounds like this needs to be put in this thread https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/general_discussion/ask_a_s...

Well if you didn't enjoy much of this gens games nintendo's next gen system has a large portion of this gen games on the way I'm taking a wait and see approach to wii u personally after the 3DS launch and the fact very little of what's been shown so far at this early stage appeals to me personally.

If you're not an existing Nintendo fan, or have nothing more than the slightest interest in the games currently announced for the console, I'd advise against buying the Wii U at launch. So far, there's been almost next to nothing announced for the console that's actually worth buying the console just to have a little look-see, and so far, we still have no news on any upcoming wow-factor or anything that might actually propel mass interest in the console as of yet. I'm not in the least doubting the fact that the console will see itself some brilliance radiating onto its platform some time after launch as it is gaining momentum, but as of now, if you're not a pledged-to-the-core Nintendo fan (as I am) and you already have at least one of the current-gen consoles, I just don't really see anything magnetic about the Wii U right now.

Most games for it so far is either a port, a ghastly similar reiteration of previous Nintendo titles or something too casual - except for a few seemingly outstanding titles, but those are only a minor few right now, and the horizon is still looking very ambiguous right now for the console. Buying the Wii U at launch just to catch up on previous good Wii titles would also be quite a waste of dosh, seeing as you can get a Wii for just next to £100 right now. I'd say that if you're unsure whether or not the Wii U is for you, have a review of the titles that are currently coming to the console and go with your insticts. During its first year of sales, there is no doubt that we should be getting more news on the better kind of titles coming to the console, what it will offer further in terms of classics, third-party gaming etc. Then you'll be able to make a solid decision on whether the Wii U will seem to be something to enjoy.

To me, it is looking to be an enjoyable piece of tech that I'd like to have nestled beside my TV, but I'm a core Nintendo fan, so it's expected of me to be lunging at the console as close as possible to its launch date as I can throw money at it. But apart from my personal preference from Nintendo, it just isn't offering too much above from the current-gen right now, and nothing really outstanding outside from it, as is the viewpoint from any other gamer who doesn't bow at Nintendo's feet as I do. I've even been considering a PS3 for myself nearing Christmas right before I can scrape up something for the Wii U, just to catch up on all the brilliant titles I've missed on the platform, and all the intriguing ones announced to be heading to the platform, mainly from Gamescom.

Bottom line, the Wii U just really isn't in its prime yet, and if you feel your a bit unsteady on your opinion on the Wii U, I'd say to wait and see from a few months after its release to see which direction it's heading, and whether you feel it's appealing to you.

Last I checked pointing out the bleeding obvious was not so much 'bitter' as, well, pointing out the bleeding obvious.

I'm not sure what I'm meant to be bitter about anyway. Nintendo's success? Last I checked I had a Wii, DS and 3DS, and a GameCube, GBA, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, N64 and SNES before that. The only people who get to claim to be longer-term fans of Nintendo than me are the folks that also owned a NES.

Yeah, you're right. A lifelong fan of Nintendo has no right whatsoever to be posting on a Nintendo forum.

@Waltz so by your standards I can go to Push Square to bash Sony since I've had a PS longer then I've had Nintendo?

Well it's seems like your on this site just to find everything wrong about Nintendo and say apple will rule them one day and the only fanboys out there are people who like Nintendo. I just think its kinda getting old, I'm not going to say you have to bow down to Nintendo, but just stop seeing it like everything Nintendo does is wrong, you know I've never seen you post anything possitive about them.

Disagreeing with silly opinions or pointing out factual errors does not mean I am attacking Nintendo.

Judging from the very short time I spent on an Apple forum, I am certain I would be labelled an Apple hater over therer had the overwhelming stupidly not already driven me away.

The Olympic teenage girls gymnastic voyeur choco is right, the OP is only going to get one answer here. Probably more because the OP wants to hear a positive response or maybe just because the OP wants to get two extreme opinions (maybe they also went to a PS3 forum) and try and interleave the points made on both in some way. You know, an ad-hoc version of "editorial balance" or something.

So I'm going to not disappoint and say yes, yes you should. Get a Wii U and rummage through the Wii game bin grabbing the Marios, Metroids and Zeldas. Then grab the Zack & Wikis and Tatsunoku vs. Capcoms. All of the 2D platformers including the brilliant DKCR. You could probably play some of them on the tablet and it'll pretty much be like playing a proper Wii U game on the tablet I'd suspect.

There are other games that were great on the Wii that you probably shouldn't get. Don't bother with a lot of the early third party games or any of the games that were ported to other systems later. Okami and Goldeneye for example got HD ports so if that's the sort of thing you're after get them on the PS3 instead. Same with Rayman Origins which you should probably just go out and get on your PS3 already if you don't have it. Same with the games that were better on the Wii at the time like Guitar Hero 5, Tiger Woods or any of those party style games that came a heap earlier. You can get them elsewhere now so it's not worth it just for that.

What it really comes down to is: Do you want to play Mario, Metroid and Zelda now in SD and with HD versions later or not? Ask yourself this when it launches, ask if the price is worth it for that. If you think it is.... get a Wii U.
