Which one should I get? I'm curious to try the series, but want to get it on Wii U and want to make sure that I pick the one with the largest multiplayer community.
I liked playing Ghosts on the GamePad. Me and my roommate used to play online with him on the big screen and me on the GamePad. But, it's been a year since that now. No idea how the communities are. Did love the zombie mode though.

The communities have a small but dedicated following and no angry 13 year old boys to worry about. I'd say black ops 2 offers good multiplayer and the storyline and single player was my favourite of all CODs ghosts is good in some ways but hey there both going for bargain prices maybe pick up both

A friend has Black Ops II, and according to him, there's atill some activity on the servers. Also, keep in mind that BO2 received some DLC well after Ghosts was released.
But even then, go for BO2. Still a bad CoD entry, but leagues beyond Call of Scooby-Doo: G-G-G-GHOSTS! in every regard.
Well, I only have Black Ops II, myself. Whenever I go online, there are usually 1800-ish people. They're all in Team Deathmatch, so don't go in there looking for a ton of variety.
I'd like to give you a proper recommendation, but I can't because I only have one of the games. I really enjoy Black Ops II and still play it occasionally, so get that one if you want it.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

1800ish for a game that is 2 years old? That is pretty good I think. I remember playing Ghosts for 1st few months when it came out, and never really got above 3k. Anyone know the current population of Ghosts? Part of me is curious to pick up either and start playing again.
I actually liked playing on the Wii U, since less people are using mics, so less annoying people screaming in my ear. (I mute everyone usually anyways)

There's more hardcore TDM players on Black Ops II, but otherwise the player count is around the same, counting everyone online. On a good day, there are like 2000+ players. At night or other low play times, there's like 800 on Ghosts, and a bit more than that on Black Ops II. There's also the fact that both games are pretty different.
EDIT: Overall, the games are around $15 on Amazon, so it's pretty cheap to get the games and play enough matches or the campaign to get your money's worth, IMO.
I have both and there are about the same amount of players on each. It's a small number regardess, but I never have a hard time finding an 8 player match, even at 3am

Whenever I play Ghosts(which has been a while, and is usually at night), there's literally like only 1-3 hardcore TDMs going on, with alot more people playing regular TDM.

Ghosts is my favorite CoD game to date. That is not the majority's view, but thats okay. On Ghosts, the population can get up to 600-800 people online during peak hours (which are usually American afternoon/evenings) and around 200-400 at low points. I have not been on Black Ops 2 in forever, but what I'm told seems to translate to that it has relatively double the player count of Ghosts at any given time. The majority is in Team Deathmatch in both games.
Though still having its flaws, the Wiimote/Nunchuck controls in Ghosts are much better than Black Ops 2.
If you have any further thoughts or questions, feel free to ask.
I was trying to play extinction, the other day, but everyone's connection sucked, so it kept booting everyone. I haven't played either CoD game a while, though. Never the less, I'd still say they are worth the $15 each. Black Ops II was a blast on launch day.
