I had a wii, then i sold it, but the cash went toward a wiiu. I can still play my wii games and wiiu games too, which is really nice. PS4 and X1 aren't BC, so that's a crying shame. I use BC quite often, because i like to sell older systems for newer ones that are BC.

To people using their Wii and Wii U side by side:

It was explained better then I could how the memory block usage is quite minimal.

Just as important though: Most Wii units shipped with a composite cable that provides about the worst signal. You could upgrade to a composite out that you bought separately that provided a better picture, but the HDMI out from the Wii U simply provides the cleanest picture and sound possible.

Technically, the signal gains no new information from the upgraded signal, but the HDMI is lossless and crisp. More importantly, most people did NOT upgrade to the superior component cable and going from the old yellow composite cable to the HDMI out is a very noticeable upgrade in signal quality.

Untitled
Composite - If you're still using this...you should definitely switch to Wii mode on the Wii U.

Untitled
Component - better signal, best you can get with Wii alone

Untitled
HDMI - best option, supported by the Wii U

I do sometimes, mainly DS on 3DS, occasionally Wii on WiiU. Loved the GC on Wii, but I finely decided to bust out the old custom platinum GC I had painted with Zelda and Metroid themes. A buddy did it.

Gotta catch them... eh, nevermind.

I actually thought I would use the Wii compatibility more than I actually do. The first half year after the Wii U purchase I used the compatibility feature quite a lot, but now it's mostly Wii U games I play. It's a great feature to have though, and I hope to get the time to complete Zelda: Twighlight Princess in the future.

Pretty regular - heck I've purchased three Wii games I sold before the Wii U came out because I was getting nostalgic!

I don't use backwards compatibility of the Wii U.

I have kept my Wii and have my games backed up on the USB hard drive, to save changing discs which is a drag.

The Wii and Wii U are located side by side and both are plugged into the TV .

I just change over the extension cord when using the other console.

My main gripes with the Wii U is the battery life and bulk of the gamepad, and poor wifi connectivity to other rooms.

That removes much of the advantage of having a Wii U for backward compatibility.

The Wii is so cheap now that keeping it around is no problem, and it can be stood upright so its concealed next to the TV.

Secondary gripes are that I have no vertical stand for the Wii U console or gamepad, and it doesnt have dual plugs to share the sensor bar.

I actuaily have two sensorbars stacked on top of each other.

All the time. I did the Wii to Wii U transfer and have a ton of Wii games I still haven't beaten yet...
Skyward Sword...
The Conduit...
Monster Hunter Tri...
The Last Story...
Xenoblade Chronicles...
Super Paper Mario...
Call of Duty MW3...
On my 3DS, I'll still buy DS games on occasion and I still play
Dragon Quest IX...
Izuna 2...
Heck, My Wii still gets loving with it's Gamecube backwards compatibility and I bought the Lego Star Wars games for it the other day.

I don't argue for backwards compatibility for nothing...

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'm on YouTube.

Hm, I rarely play last gen games, and keep current even on the switch to a new generation nintendo console. So, not much for me.

All the time for me. I have an original 3ds and i stay with a DS cartridge in the game slot. All my 3ds gaming is done from the games i downloaded from the eshop.

I love how Nintendo gives us such a nice way to get playtime out of new games on our new systems.

Am I the only one who plays Wii games without a tv? I just use the gamepad screen.

Yep i used it to play all the rpgs i missed on Wii, now i'm slowly going through other gems i may have missed. I owned a Wii but it didnt get that much play outside of multiplayer sessions and i missed alot of games as i wasn't really following every release.

I actually sold my PS4 because it was collecting dust and my PS3 was getting more games i liked (I prefer Japanese games), in the last few months i picked up Jojo's Bizzare adventure ,Gundam extreme vs full burst, J Stars victory and i'm waiting Tales of Xillia 2 & Gundam Reborn to be released soon.

IMO backward compatibility is awesome and even though i tend to hold on to all my consoles its a headache reconnecting old wired consoles just to play one or two games. My PC can play games from 20 years ago and i'd like my consoles to do the same .

Exactly the reason why I still have not pick up the PS4. Oh yeah don't forget to pickup Ace combat infinity. It's free on PSN and it is quite fun.

On my Wii U I use from time to time because my Wii can't play discs anymore. On the 3DS never, I play my DS games on my DSi XL.

God first.

I intend to use it on the Wii U, but I end up using Dolphin on my PC due to the better resolution.

pretty much just used it once- to play Mario Kart. That said, we have a Wii set up still for Netflix and my son plays it every now and then.

Never use it at all. Something they shouldnt have even bothered with. Think without BC in mind, they could have made some better decisions hardware wise and could have saved some money. It really wasnt needed.

All the time. Getting rid of it would be a silly decision that wouldn't benefit gamers at all.

Not as much as current-gen games, but I DO use it. Every month I like to do what I call a "retro weekend" which usually entails playing games from past generations only. Sometimes I play older VC titles, but usually I pop in a few Wii games, Gamecube games, or DS games. All of which I play using the BC feature of the Wii U, Wii, or 3DS.

It's an undervalued but vital feature of Nintendo consoles. I can't tell you how much of a bummer it is that I can't play PS3 games on my PS4, and won't be able to play 360 games on my Xbox One... there were a TON of great games last gen. It's nice to have access to all of them on one console.
