So I went to a yard sale close to my house, and there was a pretty big box of old Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800 games, as well as an Odyssey2 and a Commodore 64 and some games for them. I picked up this particular cartridge because it intrigued me so much I had to take it. It fit in my own 2600, but the system is missing a cord, so I couldn't play it. Looking around the net, this was the only reference I could find of it: Linky And therefore, I discovered it's the Mexican version of the game. Whether or not the gameplay is any different from the English version of the 2600 game, I couldn't tell you, that's why I'm hoping to find some more info. If anyone knows something about this freaky DK cartridge, tell me, and you will get total props.

What gave the art designer the idea that the game centered around a man wearing a harlequin/clown outfit and fish-like creatures with screws sticking out of their head? Weird.

What I think is weird is how DK is an orange, and Mario is a clown. That doesn't make nearly any sense!

I guess Mexico didn't understand the premise of Donkey Kong. Either that or there was a miss translation where they saw Carpenter vs. Gorilla as Clown vs. Mutant Citris with Mowhawks and drills. At least they got the hammer right.

If I came across an Atari cartridge that looked like that, I would assume it was some pirated/bootleg cartridge with a really effed up label. God knows how many of those exist on the 2600.
Nice find though. It would be pretty cool to have such oddities like that in my (vary humble) collection.
One more thing: I guess this proves how Atari 2600 graphics leave alot to the imagination. If you were the label artist and you only played the 2600 version of Donkey Kong, and you had no access to any other version or any of the official artwork, wouldn't you come up with something like that?
Well, maybe not, but I haven't played DK on the Atari in quite a while.
What else was at this yard sale? Did you pick anything else up?
Nope, this was all I grabbed. The rest of it was junk except for a bit of the gaming stuff, like an Odyssey2 and Commodore 64. The looked like they hadn't been used in ages, and I'm assuming they probably didn't work, especially since I didn't see a lot of consoles with hook-ups. This was the thing that grabbed my attention the most, so it was all I picked up. The Odyssey2 and the Commodore I may have picked up along with some games for them, if the lady running the sale wasn't overcharging for everything.

All prices are negotiable at a yard sale. They ask 30, you ask 10 and they cave typically.
Oh yeah. My town has one day of the year where a lot of people in town do yard sales(it's a very small town) I picked up an original Game boy with a bunch of games for $10 and sonic mega collection plus for $3.
So by some 1-in-a-million fluke, I got the 2600 to work using my NES RF adapter to connect it to the TV, as that was the the cord that was missing. The game looks and plays exactly like the original 2600 DK, but unlike my American copy, it actually worked on the system. Then I unplugged the RF adapter and it didn't work anymore when I replugged it and tried it again. Well, at least i know what the game is like now.

My town is just like that, they give out maps of where the yard sales are, but half the people chicken out and don't do it. Unfortunately they had no gaming stuff. Anywhere. And I live in a hillbilly town full of farmers and crap, so they think expensive stuff is worth crap, and crap is worth a lot.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Talking about strange misunderstandings/mistranslations, did you know 'Donkey Kong' was actually translated from the Japanese equivalent of 'Stubborn Monkey'? Oh, you did...Mmmmkay.
