So which game do you prefer Contra Or Metal Slug I for prefer Metal Slug talks to self....... speaking of Metal Slug there should be a rebirth for wiiware then again 40mb of memory probly wouldnt be enough so nevermind. Oh my i'm talking to myself now i need to vist a doctor D=
metal slug always just felt like contra with worse hit detection and really smoothly animated sprites. The levels were cool, but they weren't "tight" the way contra levels were. Both great run and guns, though--but yeah I think Contra wins.

Metal Slug no doubt bout it... Contra has always tried new things but almost always failed... Metal slug has been what its supposed to be all the time... if it aint broke, dont fix it
I haven't really played much of either, but like Starkiller I've been thinking about getting the anthology. Not sure which platform to get it on though, any suggestions?

I'd actually suggest the Wii version over the PS2 one. The PS2 version has some glitches and slowdown issues that aren't present in the Wii version. The only control issue in the Wii version is that it doesn't support the Classic controller(if you have a Gamecube controller, you'll do fine).

Well, fine francises, since Super Probotector / Contra III -The Alien Wars is the best actiongame ever imo I put Contra on top. Contra games have the more frenetic action, and great controls. Metal Slug is amusing, but not as intense as Contra.
Ah, but I have a PSP as well. So does it fare better on a handheld perhaps...?
Actually, the PS2 version was never an option, as I have way too many PS2 games already.
Apparently the PSP version suffers from long load times and slowdown, plus I'd imagine it'd be pretty uncomfortable to play on the PSP. It is the cheapest to get ahold of, however.

ya but portably would be a plus i'm currently planning on getting it for the psp i'd say having it portable beats out the loading times
Hmm. I think I'll have to agree with Andy on this one; I do love me some portable retro gaming! Though I like the (European) cover art for the Wii version better than that of the PSP version... Oh well, thanks for the advice though Mickeymac.
EDIT: Also, is there some sort of compilation of the Contra series? I can't really respond to this thread without trying out both series, y'know?

That's true, but there are other portable Metal Slugs(Two Neo Geo Pocket games, two GBA games, and a DS game). It's the controls that has me worried. I personally find the PSP uncomfortable to use on a regular basis(seriously, who the hell designed that thing?!) - playing a frantic game like Metal Slug would probably kill my thumbs. I'm not sure if others have that problem, but I'm just pointing it out, just in case.
