@NEStalgia honestly seems like you should just stop buying consoles all together lol. Never seen someone have as many issues as you do. It goes beyond simple "bad luck" when it's such a consistent thing.

To answer your question though the newer Pros (RDR2 bundled ones) run cooler and quieter from what I remember and I doubt there will be another refresh before we start hearing about the ps5. As for price cut, probably soon but especially this time of year crazy deals happen almost weekly if you keep an eye out for them. Probably better off just getting a Slim for 200 bucks since it doesn't seem to be your "main console" unless the visuals make a big deal to you. Having a Slim and a Pro running side by side all the time, the difference is noticeable for sure but imo not earth shattering.

Grumblevolcano

@NEStalgia Wait until PS5 reveal and get PS+ if you're concerned about your saves. I don't think PS+ has any Splatoon 2/Pokemon/Luigi's Mansion 3 type exceptions.

Grumblevolcano

Octane

@Grumblevolcano You don't even need PS+, you can back up saves and transfer them to another system.

@Grumblevolcano I don't believe any games are excluded from being backed up but some games like Destiny/Fortnite etc don't have their saves stored locally on the hard drive. But as @Octane said can always just use ausb drive to make a backup. I make a backup of my ps4 once a month just in case in addition to using cloud saves.

@NEStalgia

Lol well they spent half of their trailer on just the lesbian kissing scene, which basically told us nothing useful about the game. I think that was probably to just warn people who have a problem with homosexuality to avoid the game. I can't think of any other reason they'd have included that in their first gameplay trailer. It's kinda meaningless when we don't yet know the characters.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Ralizah

@Grumblevolcano Wait, Luigi's Mansion 3 won't support cloud save support either?!

@Octane It's the triple "eject" beep played randomly, many times in sequence. Except I'm playing digital games on it, with no disc in the drive. I heard of that happening with OG models due to the capcitive switches, but not with pros with physical switches. I did find a few cases on google where it was pretty much unfixable. So while I'm playing I just hear "beebeebeep........beebeebeep.....bebebeepbeebeepbeebeebeep..........beebeebeepbeebeebeep................beebeebeep." Then it'll stop for 20 minutes then start up again. Sometimes it stops the rest of the session, other times it doesn't stop at all, for hours.

@redd214 ....yeah....I hear that Technically my X1's are fine, I had software issues with the HDD handling etc, but not hardware ones yet (controllers aside.) and my Switch, I had one weird thing (software) early on I thought it was dead, but it was fine after (knock wood.) The PS4, to be fair this one I bought used....I should have known better when it showed up in an EBay taped box, with one of the rubber feet missing But it otherwise seemed perfect at first. The problem showed up later (and other than the beeps, it works fine.)

I'll keep my eyes peeled in the coming weeks then...good advice, I'm not sure how the prices change this time of year or if they maintain top pricing. Cooler would be nice if the RDR2 ones run cooler. I still have the OG screamer around, but the visuals, for PS games, do matter to me. Especially sitting up close to the monitor, the shimmering being eliminated with supersampling is a big deal to me (X does it better, but still...)

@Grumblevolcano I should have had a disclaimer "except Grumble and Cobalt" I knew your answer was wait until the reveal...which maybe a year from now (we know it's not before June otherwise Sony would be at E3 showing it off.)

@Dezzy I assume the point of that trailer was "HEY LOOK HOW SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR AN EQUAL REPRESENTATION SOCIETY WE AT SONY CORP. LTD ARE!!! LOOK EVERYONE!!! LEGAL APPROVED THIS!!! WE'VE GOT LESBIANS AT E3!!!!! (Wait, do we need to have them shoot beams of light out of their eyes to hide this?)"

The other point I guess was to show that Ellie is all grown up, and amidst the fact that the world around her is a crumbling ruin and she was raised by a random smuggler and survived despite the hordes of zombies and a devastating plague, her biggest priority is discovering her sexual identity and not repopulating the human race (and then she daydreams of depopulating it further simultaneously.)

I thought they were going somewhere with that trailer. I thought it was obvious jump scare time when her lover turns out to be infected and attacks. But no...it was just 10 minutes of the romance scene to preface brutal torture porn. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen at E3 short of Wii Music. Who opens with that as the prelude to your zombie survival horror thriller sequel? It was made worse by the badly mic'd music session from a company that records almost ever record ever made.

@Grumblevolcano sigh how is Nintendo THAT broken when it comes to this stuff? Why are saves permanently locked to fail-able hardware for any game in 2018?

NEStalgia

@NEStalgia They aren't **permanently**. They come over with system transfers at least. It's still rather annoying.

Octane

@NEStalgia Maybe you should contact Sony about it. It sounds like a very specific problem, I don't think many people have experienced that before. I've never heard of it at least.

@NEStalgia @Grumblevolcano If true, Luigi's Mansion 3 will probably have some kind of online mode shoehorned into it. Because that's the issue it seems. They're afraid of people ''cheating'', so they don't allow cloud saves in order to prevent people from re-loading from the cloud, I don't know exactly why, to get re-rolls on gear in Splatoon 2 I've heard. Seems like a non-issue if you ask me. I'm certain there's a solution for it, it just seems they don't want to put the effort into sorting it out.

It's like that story about that guy who reset its game to get another Mew with better stats, only to find out the Poke Ball controller only comes with one Mew, like a one-time thing. $50 down the drain lol.

Octane

Grumblevolcano

@NEStalgia This is why I say wait until PS5 reveal about the beeping PS4 problems, it's got nothing to do with when the PS5 comes out. If your PS4 or XB1 dies you lose nothing that's on your console if you've backed up your saves (free cloud saves for XB1, PS+ cloud saves or free manual back up for PS4). It's not like on Switch where you lose save data even if you have the online subscription.

Grumblevolcano

Octane

PS5 reveal may take a while though. I don't think it'll happen before E3 2019.

Octane

Grumblevolcano

@Octane If the PS4 broke before the reveal you'd have to choose between getting a new PS4 or waiting but your saves would still be safe either way.

Grumblevolcano

NEStalgia

@Octane Yeah it's a specific problem, but since I bought it used, I get no warranty (not that I've heard great things about Sony warranty anyway....) This one, sadly, is on me. I suspect the seller knew about the issue and that's why he sold it. The missing rubber foot (the little rubber x's and o's and squares) tells me this. Apparently the OG PS4 with the contact switches would have this issue but it was the actual eject button being detected when it wasn't getting pressed. One of the solutions apparently was popping off a rubber foot and adjusting some sensitivity screw inside. Of course that wouldn't work on a Pro because it's not a contact switch issue, but I'm betting that's why the foot is missing, they tried fixing this by popping the foot off and adjusting a screw, and when that failed, sold it. Ugh!

@GrumbleVolcano, Yeah, I won't lose anything on this console in the meantime....but I do have to play it while it's incessantly chirping in my ear....that's kinda the main issue right now It probably isn't going to fail (it could, maybe it's an overheating warning, but considering it doesn't start slowing down or anything I'm sure it's fine long term (at least 70% sure!).....it's just.....annoying to use.....at all... I'd have to basically avoid PS4 games until sometime after June. Which is mostly ok, I think X1 and Switch will dominate this year (or every year), but it gives me reason to de prioritize Horizon and P5 for yet another year. And then what to do about KH? Like Octane said, we're looking to at least July, at earliest for PS5 news. Not a peep prior otherwise they'd be doing E3. My bet is on Sept/Oct/Nov announce. Or even early 2020 since a pre-July announce is out of the question, and July-Sept is weird timing for reveals, while Oct-Dec seems plain old stupid if you intend to move existing products. Which would explain the need for deep radio silence for the next 6-12 months.

NEStalgia

Octane

@NEStalgia Yeah, that's the reason why I'd never buy a used console myself. You can't be sure what you're getting. And even if there's no apparent problem, you won't know why they sold it in the first place. There's usually something wrong with it.

Octane

NEStalgia

@Octane Apparently so. I do have to say that the other one in the house, I also bought used and is great. I've bought refurbs, but that's a little bit of a different thing but that works out well. I figured for a newish console it's not the worst thing in the world, and I've had good luck with used stuff in general but this incident does make me second guess that. Truthfully the tipoff was the Ebay tape and the abundance of packing peanuts. Who does that? And anything Ebay is a red flag to me Still out of 3 or 4 used consoles I bought, 1 was a lemon (excluding refurbs.) So I've done ok .

I also have to say that Playstation build quality overall always leaves me cautious even with new ones. Nothing feels dense or quality about a Pro. Nothing at all. PS3 phat was dense and nice but poorly thermally designed. All other Playstations from the 2 onward felt like they're made of recycled milk bottles and a hobby electronics kit.
