So a few weeks ago I ordered the Mayflash PS2 to HDMI adapter so my son can play his PS2 WWE games. All my TVs have HDMI inputs only so hence why I bought that piece of *****. Anyway I hook it up and nothing it says that nothing is connected to my TV. So after several hours of trying different cables, different ports still nothing. Well, after doing some googling I find out that you have to use the original cables that came with the PS2 to navigate the menu to put your PS2 in a certain mode. That's nice but
1) What if your TV doesn't have those outputs
2) If my TV did why would I be buying this you *****?
So I did find that you can try to navigate the menus blindly and after trying that with no success I am done.
It's nice of Mayflash not to mention this on the product page and again if I could use the cables why would I buy this product?
So just a warning stay away from Mayflash they have no clue what they are doing and are a bunch of hacks who can't use common sense.

It’s more of a problem with the original hardware.
I had to do the same thing when I got an HDMI adapter for my Wii, I had to go set it up on a different tv first, to make it compatible with the output.
@Eel That shouldnt be. Its a poor design choice by the manufacture. Lets be honest if a person can hook there system up to a current tv then there is no point to the adapter the whole reason for the adapter is because you can't hook it up. Somebody wasnt thinking thats all.

@Tasuki what I’m trying to say, is that the manufacturer of the adapter can’t really do anything about how the legacy system will handle the output signal.
It’s a cheap and small adapter that makes use of one of the optional output formats the older consoles have, it’s not attempting to convert the signal in any fancy way and it doesn’t have a way to communicate with the system to tell it it’s using the wrong output; nor was the system made with a way to handle that kind of issue.
@Eel Ah. I see what your saying. I guess as the saying goes you get what you pay for. I guess if I want to play my PS2 discs on a modern tv I will have to pay the $700. Thank you Sony for not doing backwards compatibility. And people wonder why I am not a huge fan of Sony.

Yeah, this is just the silly way PS2 is designed. Oddly enough, I was just reading a few days ago a post of someone going through that process blind. Maybe the Mayflash packaging should have made that clear, though I wonder how many people that would deter. But Mayflash makes pretty decent stuff, to be fair. Their controller adapters I've used have been good. I hear their arcade sticks are quite good. But I agree that the whole predicament you're in with that is annoying.
This might be redundant, but just for reference, this youtube video shows the process of setting the options blind, and even better it has text instructions in the top comment. If you feel up for trying it one more time. Also worth mentioning there is apparently a config reset to factory settings for PS2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KFEQJ7ASlQ
Since you mention $700, if you're semi serious about that, you can probably find small cheap TVs that can take composite or component inputs and actually use that to change to the setting you need. While not exactly practical, it shouldn't get anywhere near $700. Some old portable DVD players can accept inputs too, and those can be inexpensive as well.
