They would have had the money to do an MMO if Amalur wasn't a complete commercial bomb.
It sold 300,000 or so copies in the first week. That's pitiful. Too many people waiting for price drops or second hand sales because a new IP is a risky buy.
@Waltz 300,000 in the first week pitiful? Your kidding right? if not then that's an absurd comment to make. 300,000 for a new IP is pretty good going, especially for one so generic and bland. Sure the combat was OK but everything else stank of a sub-standard WoW. To then rush headfirst into the niche ,overcrowded MMO market was plainly a stupid decision, but I suppose that's what you get when a Footballer and a big wad of cash wants to make a videogame.
Not to derail the Amalur talk, but did anyone pick up Max Payne 3? I'm going to be online this weekend with it for the review and would love to have some familiar faces to shoot.

No, I didn't. You should have a helluva good time though Jon. It's gotten great reviews from what I've seen so far. I think Anthony even grabbed a copy of it today. I played through the original two games. They were fun, but I wasn't overly impressed. I've been very surprised at the praise for this one though. Looking froward to your review Jon!
@Mickeymac nailed down my thoughts on Amalur though. With the enormous budget and talent that was put behind the game, it probably should have been a bit better than it was — judging from the sideline of course, as I've stayed far away from getting sucked into another Skyrim, or the likes of it. Those sales number wont scratch the surface of what they owe on the game's development cost.
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as hating the game, as I've got several friends who've really enjoyed it immensely.
I think the real issue is that non-established, big budget titles are already becoming few and far between, and I don't think it's something that we will stop seeing any time soon. Truthfully, the only big budget first or third party titles that have me really excited are Nintendo's alternative titles (e.g. Paper Mario 3DS, Luigi's Mansion, etc.), Resistance: Burning Skies and Bioshock: Infinite. Heck, Resistance doesn't even feel like a first party game, as it's always felt like a third party title to me.

@turtlelink I've already purchased it and awaiting its release! Waltz can probably enlighten us a bit more on it, as he has a JPN Vita. I know Corbie played the demo and loved it. The first Japanese review I remember seeing was a 10/10.
Trine 2 is absolutely brilliant! If you've got PS+, then by all means download it and start enjoying this amazing game. It's absolutely beautiful, well designed and overly fun. Not saying more, as I'm reviewing it for Push Square, but you can expect a high score here. PLAY IT!

@Mickeymac It's 100% understandable! But I highly implore you to give Trine 2 a try. They've tightened up the entire package. The puzzles and level layout are some of the best in the business and the cheap deaths and enemies are, thankfully, no more. You can also quickly reset your stats at anytime in-game to fit the task at hand, which keep you from being forced to collect all the, sometimes ignorantly, placed EXP vials. Everything is now streamlined to be a more enjoyable experience. BUT, it's the setting. The game looks absolutely lovely! This game nails the fantasy setting perfectly, with an amazing soundtrack to boot. Try it. It's one of the best downloadable games I've played.
@ChocoGoldfish Really? I'd thought it'd be right up your alley. Truthfully, I'm not a fan of Square Enix's mainstream games, but I'm excited to play Gravity Rush.
So guys any good rumored about Sony E3 news beyond the usual of stuff being cross play with vita. Plan on making the E3 dissucion topic and want to put a list of notable rumored and already confrimed news about each company in the OP along with the dates and where to watch and the rest of that jazz.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.
Well, that's the Trine 2 Platinum down. Very creative trophy list that I hope more developers use in the future. Doesn't actually require you to beat the game on difficulties, or collect everything — like the original Trine's annoying list — but instead requires you to power your characters' and have fun with them through creative uses of their powers. Really great stuff here from FrozenBite Studios! Now to ponder on what I'm going to score it. I'm going to have to thing on it for awhile.
@Sony_70Everything you need is at Push Square. You'll be hard pressed to find more info than what Sammy is constantly keeping at the site. But, be prepared, you're thread is going to hit a wall fast! The fanboy's are out in droves this year with Vita's sales slump, Microsoft's lack of first party games and Wii U looking better by the day. Remember, it's better to just say nothing, than to get p.o.'d and getting banned. I recently got a bit of a lesson for letting one get under my skin, so just know that if you do create the thread, it will get chaotic.
