You guys all probably already know about Kickstarter , but in case you haven't, it's a website that allows indie game developers' — as well as other mediums (e.g. books, movies, etc.) — to put their already started projects in front of the world, letting you , the gamer, to decide if it's something that you'd like to contribute to. You can contribute as little as $1 to the project to support it, but Kickstarter rewards' for larger contributions — usually starting around $15 and exceeding over $1000 — will earn you the game and crazy other things like you, yes you, being a playable character in the game, etc. Only fully funded games' at the end of their time period charge your credit card, and any additional money above their set goal goes to adding extra polish for the game, additional features, etc. This is a great way for you to make a difference in the industry that we love so much, and support games that you think you'll enjoy owning and playing in the future. Of course, once it's funded, it's a wait until release, but until then, you'll usually gain access to 'supporter only' forums that give you exclusive updates on how things are shaping up along the way for the game(s) you're supporting. Pretty cool huh? Check out the site here: http://www.kickstarter.com/ Two projects that I'm currently supporting are Legends of Eisenwald and Carmageddon Reincarnation . LoE is already funded and will definitely be coming, but Carmageddon Reincarnation has yet to hit its allotted goal. I had never before played the PC version of the series, which is quite fantastic apparently, but I did play Carmageddon N64, which is abysmal . Another game's journalist that I follow dropped a great Blog Post about his early experiences with the original title, and it changed my outlook on the series, and pushed me to back the project. It's really shaping up nicely and I'm truly hoping it succeeds. For you DS lovers, the notorious indie developer Jason Rohrer has a multiplayer DS strategy title on Kickstarter right now called Diamond Trust of London. It's currently so close to being funded at 93% and 5 days left to go. You can check it out here . Are you watching/contributing to any Kickstarter projects? Sword n Board? Seriously? People will fund anything these days. The theme of a boy forced to play outside because his game console is missing is a solid theme though.
