My girlfriend bought stardew valley on switch but i guess all the crafting and inventory management was too confusing for her. She barely touched the game and soon deleted it from her switch. Now she's thinking of getting Animal crossing new horizons. I've never played one myself but doesn't that have crafting too?
She wants a good relaxing game that isn't too demanding on your skill level or confusing. She's basically more of a casual gamer. Not at all into games involving hard core skills or reflexes.
Other games she has is Phoenix Wright and stray keeps her occupied cause she loves cats.
She also likes puzzle games.
Do you think animal crossing might be something she'd enjoy?
AC is less about crafting or farming and more about socializing with villagers and feng shui-furnishing your house. If you want something cat-centric, maybe show her trailers for Stray or Little Kitty, Big City? Catlateral Damage perhaps?
@Magician
She actually has stray but yeah anything good with cats would probably be her thing. I've considered trying animal crossing myself. I hear it's a good relaxation game.
Animal Crossing is more like playing with a doll house, there’s crafting but it’s to serve the purpose of decorating your “doll house”. Once you’re done with the tutorial aspects of the game there’s no goal besides what you want to do with your space.
Whereas Stardew Valley may look like you’re playing house but it’s more like a mini action adventure rpg. It’s not super strict, but basically everything you can do and make in the game has a reason or purpose to aid in advancing the farm or the valley.
Bruh, I would recommend Animal Crossing to someone who doesn't like Animal Crossing.
Seriously. The game drives you nuts with the amount of things that don't quite work how you'd like them to work, and I've sworn off it more than once in my days, but I still love it for what it does do, which is providing a little haven where you can come and go in your own sweet time, potter about, and hit neighbours you don't like over the head with a net.
@Truegamer79 I actually would! I love Animal Crossing, but for some reason, I don't like Stardew Valley. From my experience, AC is a lot easier to get into, while I've gotten overwhelmed easily in SV. Oftentimes I would get tired while mining so I would have to come back to my in-game house. I don't have to worry about that in the AC games, and I'd always go at my own pace. I love the customization aspect as well, where you'd decorate your house to your liking, and in New Horizons' case, your entire island as well as your house. I like how you'd donate stuff like fish and bugs to the museum, too. It is a good relaxation game for sure, I'd definitely recommend New Horizons.
As for puzzle games, Tetris Effect Connected is fantastic, and I'd totally recommend that one too. If you have NSO, Panel de Pon on the SNES is really good as well.
@MarioVillager92
Turns out animal crossing was a great choice. I think all the item and inventory management in stardew valley was too overwhelming for my girlfriends liking. Sure it looks cute with it's retro pixel art but it's apparently not so accessible for the casual gamer.
She got hooked into animal crossing immediately. Glad it worked out. I might even try it myself.
Both games have some similarities, but they play very differently. Other than missing seasonal stuff, Animal Crossing has very little stress.
Stardew Valley has an energy (and health in the mines) meter to watch out for, you need to go to bed, time passes as you play, etc.
Stardew Valley is my favorite game, with New Leaf and New Horizons pretty high up in my favorites too.
Animal Crossing is absolutely worth a shot even if you don't like Stardew Valley.
