@DanteSolablood That is a generalisation and you are wrong, believe it or not some people have brain AND like Waluigi, you have a few examples on this very short thread and on any comments section. I like Waluigi before Twitter existed. Luigi is not a hero either and people love him. Many people like Luigi more than Mario, who has done more? Mario. Luigi is shy and insecure and I like him. Waluigi doesn't have to prove anything, he is what he is and nobody expects him to be any different.

@BlueOcean We'll have to agree to disagree, I certainly can't argue that you personally don't love Waluigi.. I'm very sure you do & your replies are passionate on the subject. You have my respect!

However, it seems most of the posts (which I have read through) seem to focus on Waluigi not being Mario or Luigi, not a super high bar to pass. I'm sure there are plenty of genuine Waluigi lovers out there.. but I personally believe the vast majority are bandwagon jumpers.

The bandwagon effect is notable in just about any topic that reaches a certain size.

If it’s something big enough to be discussing, crowd mentality is going to play a huge part. Any hot topic gives people an excuse to get caught up in the furore (in which case a certain fraction of people will resort to extreme behaviour just to show off to the group). This then gives those not caught up an excuse to chastise the group and any member of it.

Even people who didn’t see themselves as part of ‘a group’ to begin with end up tarred with the same brush, and these people feel naturally offended for being slandered for holding an opinion which - in and of itself - is hardly objectionable.

I’m not a sociology expert, but the same pattern playing our day after day across the internet is eminently visible.

Anyway, on the subject of Waluigi himself, I think he’s been injected with a remarkable amount of personality for a character whose most frequent role is to take up space in sports game rosters. He seems to get freakier and more interesting with every title he stars in; perhaps because he’s essentially a blank slate with few mainline apparences, developers feel free to just throw ideas at him. I think he’s arguably a more unique and memorable character than the legions of earnest anime swordsmen that populate the Fire Emblem series.

But he hasn’t had his own game, or really been featured prominently is anything other than a sports game in need of a bigger roster.

Perhaps this is a more interesting topic of discussion, as it begs the question ‘what would a Waluigi game look like?’. If Tingle - an equally freaky side character from the Zelda series - can get two games in which he stars as the protagonist, I don’t think a Waluigi game is completely absurd. Well, I do, but absurdity would probably be its main selling point.

So yeah, Waluigi for... ‘Waluigi: The Game’. I’d be down for that.

He doesn't know what women feel like.
He often cries himself to sleep at night.
His only friend and companion is his brother. His brother doesn't give a s*** about him.
I mean, he works 9:00 to 5:00 every day. Even weekends.
And it's still not enough to get by. He can't really support himself.
I mean, those genie shoes, he found on a dead homeless person. It's just- it's just a sad story.
Poor Waluigi.

@DanteSolablood I don't love Waluigi, I like him which is different. You say people agree that he is not Mario or Luigi. Is he expected to be so? No. Of course I respect that you don't like him but you are wrong about what Waluigi is supposed to be. He is not supposed to be someone as important as Mario or Link. As @Maxz said, he has more personality than many other characters. Dr Mario, hello? Most importantly, he is a unique character in the Mario universe that has been around since Nintendo 64, he appears in most sports and Mario Kart games. There is no other character in the Mario universe that looks remotely similar. He needs to be part of Smash and I know he will, sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

@ReaderRagfish The story mode would have King K. Rool, another long overdue character, jumping intimidatingly like in Donkey Kong Country towards everyone else, looking for revenge after many years.

@BlueOcean I never said I dislike Waluigi - I don't care about him either way & haven't seen a need to.. Also Dr Mario is not a unique character, it's a persona that Mario adopts. Dr Mario, is Mario. By the way, the comment that Waluigi is not like Luigi or Mario was made by other people & simply means he is different, your exact point.

Though secretly I do think Waluigi is just Jimmy T in disguise.

@ReaderRagfish Nope... I got it. Waluigi is on a quest to control Master & Crazy Hands and destroy the SSB universe because he's never gotten an invite. You've gotta stop him. Some characters die, the hands break free from his control and turn on him. Only at the end, with Luigi and others standing bravely between the hands and a broken, pathetic pile of purple bruises and bones, does Waluigi realize why he was never invited. He looks up an sees an envelope in Luigi's back pocket, with a little yellow sticker on it. He squints his bloodied eye to see that the sticker says "Address not deliverable. Return to sender."... The hands unleash a devastating attack on everyone, as Waluigi realizes what he's done and cries out. "Waaaaaaaaah". His voice abruptly ends as everyone is destroyed.

That's right, Waluigi gets everyone killed because he didn't give the correct address to the Smash Committee.

I have loved Waluigi since his introduction. I don't get all the meme stuff - I just want my favorite Nintendo character to get some respect. Instead he is disrespected and the fans are disrespected by Nintendo. The name Smash Ultimate is a terrible name for this game. It won't be ultimate until Waluigi's fans are shown some love. They don't even have Mii costume clothes for Waluigi in the game.. They took them out! Then to throw Persona 5 characters into a Nintendo game - it's insult on top of insult.

I want Waluigi in smash because every other major mario character is in smash. Now that daisy is in, there is a complete set minus waluigi.

I’ve always genuinely liked Waluigi since the age of five. He’s a very unique character and could have a moveset that is unlike any other.

Waluigi, to me, was always kind of an interesting character. It's probably why I liked him so much, because his mold of "dastardly villain" trope he mimics is as amusing as watching Wacky Races when I was a child. He is literally Nintendo's Dick Dastardly.

Which makes sense as to why he probably is being treated as such a character within Nintendo. He's always "there" but never able to truly win with his underhandedness. I respect it as much as I hate it because of my admiration for the character. He fits that role so well.

My issue is I was hoping, during the Wii U era, the new Mario game (called Super Mario (that's literally it)) was a reality. Supposedly it was a return to roots Mario 64 style gameplay and Wario and Waluigi played main antagonists this time around. I loved that idea because it was essentially bringing more solid basing for Waluigi (and they can play off the whole dastardly villain trope better) and giving Wario his villainous role again.

Alas that was never the case, but the idea still sounds amazing.

I have an idea for Waluigi:
He can represent the sports side of Mario games and wear his Mario Tennis Aces outfit (after all, his first game was a Mario sports game)

I should get a PSP. Or a GameCube. Or a GBA. Or a PS2. Or a...
