I'm very sorry to inform you, my uncle works for Nintendo and they are never ever going to release Super Mario Galaxy 2 ever, anymore, again. They absolutely hated releasing 3D All Stars, and Mr Miyamoto himself has nightmares about all the times they re-released Super Mario Bros. So I don't see it happening. Ever.

I was on another gaming site recently and another user hypothesised a possible 'April 1st' surprise whereby the Mario 3D All-Stars collection is taken off sale and Nintendo announce that, as a thank you to everyone who bought the collection, Mario Galaxy 2 is now unlocked as a bonus download for the collection.
@AghorrorAg Galaxy 2 is likely coming. Unfortunately, Nintendo prefers silence on the subject. If talking in this forum had any impact, we would have Virtual Console(N64, Gamecube, Wii), and already have Galaxy 2, Metal Gear Solid games.
It will probably happen at some point. My theory has been that the Switch Pro will be announced for christmas this year, and playing Wii and Gamecube games will be one its selling points, in the same way that the New 3DS allowed SNES games to be played.
I really would love having Galaxy 2 on switch. I had both on the Wii when I was little and I was bad at games so it was really fun to be able to finally beat the first game. I remember losing the disc for the first game being the irresponsible little kid that I was so I have more memories from galaxy 2.
Hopefully. I would be happy paying like 20$ for DLC but a free update and at least an explanation on why it wasn't originally included in 3d all stars would be amazing.
@gcunit : I'd be extremely p'ed off if they did that as it would necessitate a large download (something that would normally warrant a "Download Required" warning on the packaging of the game), and because the physical edition will be out of print by that time, there won't be any way of buying a reprinted cartridge with SMG2 already on it (as Nintendo usually includes the most up-to-date version of the game on the cartridge in reprints).
Even worse is if they make it free DLC, because then you won't be able to play the game offline on a secondary console (like a Switch Lite), and there won't be any way of backing up the game for prosperity either. At least with software updates, you can wirelessly transfer data without an internet connection, so you can keep additional consoles with software updates on them as back-up well in to the future. With DLC, once the eShop goes kaput, there will be no way of accessing that DLC if it isn't already installed on your console. And as a result of that, I absolutely loathe when publishers release "free DLC" as a separate eShop download, especially when the content should have been integrated into a software update (and it almost always is, but necessitates the DLC to unlock the ability to utilise data that already exists in the software update, which never made any sense as the user isn't saving any data by choosing not to download the DLC).
If SMG2 is released on Switch, I just want a proper physical release of the game. Either of the scenarios above would incense me enough to want to sell my two copies.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
To echo the Nintendo Direct. Galaxy 2 was the last 3D release of Mario before Odyssey. Maybe they will release it seperately? With a bit more work gone into it.

My theory is they will announce N64 games for NSO soon, and that is why the 3D collection has a limited release.
After they announce N64 on NSO I think at some point Sunshine + Galaxy will be available standalone and then they'll add Galaxy 2 as a standalone purchase too.
Uhu GrailUK “your uncle works for nintendo”, that’s complete nonsense and if he is working for nintendo he doesn’t get to know any secrets nintendo has, that’s very strict.

@LarsB13GrailUK was fooling around "(/s)" = end sarcasm.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and bet it'll be released 31 April 2021
I literally took a screenshot of your message and saved it to see if you were right because that'd be hilarious if you had predicted it 2 months beforehand... but I just now realized that there are only 30 days for April, not 31.
