@YummyHappyPills Oh ok. So you can redownload to the SD card without losing the save. Can you access both games downloaded to the internal storage and games downloaded to the SD card, or can you only access games on the SD card?
I just updated Skyrim on my 2GB SD card. Put the SD card in my PC copy/pasted the Nintendo folder on my PC and deleted it from the SD card. Then I put is back in my Switch too se if the update prompt will activate and it did.
Then again I put the SD card in my PC copied the Nintendo folder. Back to the Switch and Skyrim did not want to download anything.
This is nice little workaround for people that want their physical collection to stay physical and not require internet. There is the annoying thing with changing multiple SD cards but it is the same as having 2 cartridges for one game.
Now only if someone could test the same thing with L.A. Noir or some other game that requires this stuff. Multiplayer DooM and stuff.
I have one more stupid question. Does anyone know how the eshop downloads and the switch active console (account) works.
Lets say I download a game with my Switch account from the eshop. I put that game on SD card. I know I can't play it on another console. But if I don't have internet connection I am still able to play the game from that specific SD card if I put it into the Switch again?
Is this how it works? Does it require authentication from time to time or something like that?
LIMITS ARE MADE TO BE OVERCOME, AND BORDERS ARE MADE TO BE BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!
@Zuljaras Nope. Once a game is downloaded, that's it. You don't need to connect to the internet again unless you want to patch it, or use any online features within the game.
@link3710 So the Switch has some way or remembering the user I used to download the game even offline? I have no idea how this works. If I have my user linked with the account I can play any game offline as long as I am with that user?
Come to think of it. Is it possible to create new user offline and then go back to the linked with account user again offline?
@Zuljaras So the way it works is that each game you download is encrypted using a particular code (this is linked to the Switch, not the user). Right now, as long as you put back the SD card in the same Switch, or in one you did a system transfer to, the game will still be playable. To any other switch, it's just a meaningless pile of code. I don't think (though I'm not 100% positive) that you can use a game you downloaded on one Switch by logging in as yourself on a different Switch.
As for the second part of your question, I'm not quite sure what you're asking? But you can switch between users freely on the Switch regardless of online/offline status.
@link3710 Hm this sounds nice. I though the game is locked to the Switch account that is linked to the user. But it is the console itself. Thanks for the info.
I am asking so I could make physical media of Digital only games. Like one SD card = one game.
