I was playing project octopath traveler demo and the starting area room of primrose there are black dots the room just be for you take control of the character but it’s only that room I can see any dots I’ve also played Zelda and can’t see anything?

If you can only see it in one game, you probably don't have any.

@Zelda_Fan Think you may be alright. If its just one area in one game, I wouldn't worry too much : )

Screenshot the image and transfer to a pc - if the dots show, it's not dead pixels.

Press the screen capture button on the left Joycon. You can then go into the Album by pressing the HOME button and accessing the menu. You can view and edit the image here and post it to Facebook etc. or use it directly from the SD card on your pc.

Can I copy pics to a Microsd card and use them on the switch?

Something I noticed with the Octopath demo is that Its uses a weird dither filter for some reason.
Dithering used to be used in many games in the past to give the illusion of much more colours on a limited colour palette.
With Octopath traveller it appears as an artistic effect & remains stationary as the camera moves.
So I believe it's the game itself not the switch.

Rather than just ask the question, why not try it and see for yourself? The answer may surprise you.

@zitpig as someone who doesnt own a microsd card yet, I would like to know the answer to this question.. but what good can you do with transferring them to the switch? Im imagining things like being able to set custom backgrounds but I know you cant do that yet or maybe ever.

OK. The answer is... technically you could, but in reality you can't.

You can transfer the Switch image to your pc, but you can't create a new .JPG or even alter an existing one and have it display in the "Album" on your Switch, wthout knowing how the file was created and named.

[EDIT] Amending an image already on the Switch displays a "???" in the Album.

Each image saved on the Switch is given a unique filename, which includes the date, time it was created (and edited) and other data values - without knowing what each part of the filename represents it's not possible (at this time) to view a file, image or photo created on pc (or elsewhere) on the Switch. So custom backgrounds or images cannot be used easily.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time before Nintendo allows you to view external images on the Switch or someone cracks the image filename format, which probably isn't too difficult. But would the end result by worth it? dunno. A photo-viewer might be a nice addition... But it's probably more hassle than it'll ever be worth.

If the dots are on the tv, then you might have a virus and they could be infectious. Keep your Switch away from other electricals!
