So I guess as the Trolls fan here, I'm going to be the one making a thread on this game. I made one for Smurfs: Mission Vileaf sequel. Earlier this week, a video game based off the DreamWorks Trolls movies was announced this week.

Personally, I'm very happy about this. Given Trolls has a history with mobile games, this is something that makes me happy because all the old mobile games have been shut down, never to be played again. I had Trolls Pop on my phone for six months before they shut down the game.

So far from the screenshots shown, I'm impressed. I think they nailed the arts and crafts aesthetic the series has quite well. I also find it surprising that the news release mentions Hair-jitsu as a feature, which is a really obscure Trolls reference not mentioned in any of the movies, rather the Netflix show. With the musical nature of this series, it's cool they're including rhythm based mini-games in it. Only time will tell how they're like gameplay-wise.

Given the last few licensed based games I've played on Switch, I've really enjoyed, I have confidence this will be a fun game. Obviously not GOTY material, but a fun game for fans at least. I do feel a good licensed game is one that captures what makes that particular series great, while still being a fun game.

I'm probably going to be the only one on this site excited for this one. I don't know if anyone else is looking forward to this. Also, anyone else a fan of the Trolls movies? Why not ask given this game is happening.

I think I might give a try for this Trolls game considering GameMill is the publisher of this game and other revived franchises such as Cobra Kai, Little League World Series 2022, Are You Smarter Than 5th Graders, etc.
I still curious with the Rhythm aspect from this game, will it play like Taiko no Tatsujin or DDR style.

I only play kids games with a few rated Teen games that suitable for me.

@Anti-Matter The only games I've played from them are Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 and Frozen Olaf's Quest. One felt like a love letter to Nickelodeon past and present, and the other was a simple collect-a-thon starring Olaf.

Me too, I do feel given this will be a kids game, I have a feeling the rhythm sections will be press the right button to the beat. Like for example, pressing A when the A button passes through a square. Basing this on other games I've played, I won't know until I see gameplay.

@Sunsy
Maybe the Rhythm section will be like inputting Auron's FF X button commands in right order.
Also, it said this game will feature the musics from previous Trolls movie so it will be all licensed songs.

I think Western Rhythm games have one weakness from my experience with other Rhythm games, the dependent of licensed songs without making their original songs that designed for the games.
BEMANI Rhythm games by Konami always have their original songs that designed for their rhythm games so they don't really depended on licensed songs since they have their own artist to make new songs for their Rhythm games every series.

@Anti-Matter I wouldn't know, I haven't played that game. When I think of Western rhythm game, usually Just Dance comes to mind. I do feel what this game will have will be a mini-game with pressing the right buttons. I've seen it in My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure, and even a few older Nickelodeon games, if we're going by kids licensed games. Though, I did loved the rhythm mini-game in Mario and Sonic 2016.

The two songs they mentioned are from the first movie, I'm guessing music will be based from the movies, or even the Netflix series as the mobile games used those, a good chunk of music in the movies are based off actual real world songs, like "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is "Trolls Just Wanna Have Fun."

One of the songs mentioned is "Get Back Up Again," which is one of the original songs from the series. Here's the song that was mentioned, it was from the first movie. Also, note the arts and crafts aesthetic (the knitted snake, felt-like textures), I think the developers got the look for the game right.

@Anti-Matter Awesome find with the high res box art. From just looking at this box, looks like Chaz the smooth jazz troll is the villain for this one. He was a character in Trolls World Tour who hypnotizes trolls with smooth jazz.

I really like how they're using another cartoon reference here, there was an episode of TrollsTopia, while under Chaz's spell, the trolls all got mustaches (as silly as it sounds, this is the Trolls universe). Looks like Chaz is controlling the creatures on the box art since music is coming out of his instrument.

Nice, I'll probably wait until Target or Amazon starts taking pre-orders since the last few times I bought physical games was through them. I plan to get this on both Switch, as well as PC to have it there and play 60FPS. This is one I'm going to double dip on to have it on both.

I still curious with the customization in the game as we can play as normal Trolls characters and the custom Trolls player.
I guess there are some unlocked abilities for custom Trolls player to learn through the gameplay.

@Anti-Matter I imagine it would work either way, unless they reveal something closer to release or show off a trailer. From the sound of this...

Customize a Troll: Players can create, customise, and play as their own Troll with a variety of hairstyles, facial features, outfits and more!

It sounds like we might be able to play as them, unless it changes or something closer to release. They do show off the troll customization in one of the screenshots. It just got announced so I'm looking forward to a trailer or learning more about this one.

Personally, I'm looking forward to playing as my favorite character Poppy. It will be interesting to see what Trolls can be made using customization.

Small update on the game, the game's now listed on the eShop and can be wishlisted. I wishlisted it both on Switch and Steam.

Probably going to wait until after Christmas to get the game for Switch, mostly in event I get it as a Christmas gift. Though I do plan to buy it for PC. I kind of want it on both systems, especially after losing Trolls games on mobile due to them discontinuing.

The game is finally out and there's a launch trailer. Finally nice to see this game in action, really liking what I see. They did a great job capturing the look and style of the series.

Tagging @Anti-Matter since he seems to be the only one here besides me showing interest.

Oh, so the game is basically 3D platformer + Rhythm games.
I saw something that looks like DDR a little bit.
I wonder which songs will be used and how difficult the songs level will be.

@Anti-Matter Pretty much. I have a feeling rhythm games will be pressing the button to the beat, kind of like other kids games. With that said, I think it will be on the easier side because of it. I have a feeling it will use songs from the series. I do remember Get Back Up Again being mentioned as one of the songs, which I shared a video of earlier in the thread.

Really want to get this, may have to wait. I have early access tickets to Trolls Band Together (DreamWorks is doing a special showing on the anniversary of the first movie), and I need to use Lyft to get a ride to the theater, which costs money. Plus I have to be able to Christmas shop.

Hoping to get this one for Christmas now, or just wait until after Christmas.

My friend and I exchanged Christmas gifts last night, and he gave me Trolls Remix Rescue. So here's some impressions on it.

Firstly, I love what the developer did for this game, the attention to detail here is great. There have been so many little nods to this series, it's great. From locales from Trolls World Tour, to elements of the cartoon series TrollsTopia, to capturing the colorful, arts and crafts inspired Trolls world, they really took care into making this game look and feel as close to the series as possible, and I love it.

How does it play? It plays as expected, being a licensed based platformer for kids. There's some music mini-games, as I suspected, the one I play is a simple "press the button in the circle" rhythm game. Haven't tried the rock one yet. The plaforming element involves the usual running, jumping, and collecting gems and special tokens that gives your Troll abilities. You can even customize your own Troll. There was one segment where I was playing as Poppy and getting chased by a snake, while "Get Back Up Again" plays in the background, reminded me of the scene from the first movie.

I did one boss fight, it was a simple boss fight as expected, where Poppy fought a snake. It's worth noting it was a bit buggy. Poppy would take damage when hit by the snake's face, but the rest of the snake went through her with no damage. It is worth noting there's some bugs, but nothing game breaking so far, just an oddity during a boss battle.

Overall, I like it, looking forward to playing more. As a Trolls fan, I'm happy with this one. Hopefully the few bugs get patched out in an otherwise decent licensed game that's a treat to anyone who likes Trolls.

@Sunsy
Is there any song list from the game?
Also, I was surprised to see the Boss list from YouTube there was Bridget as the Boss fight, something very contrary with movie version.

I really hope there will be another Trolls game on next year with Branch's brothers and BroZone musics to play.
The villains will be Velvet and Veneer just like the movie version.

Sunsy

@Anti-Matter Whoa there, spoilers!

Also, the Trolls wiki had a song list...

Hair Up (Trolls)
Get Back Up Again (Trolls)
True Colors (Trolls)
Barracuda (Trolls World Tour)
Yodel Beat (Trolls World Tour)
Tiny Diamond Rap (Trolls World Tour, I'm guessing)

I have a feeling this game was in development when Trolls World Tour was the current movie. The only Trolls Band Together stuff I notice is Viva and Poppy's new look. Worth noting the DLC has John Dory and Floyd as playable characters.

Maybe if the game does well, we'll get a follow up. Right now, I'm happy this exists as the only Trolls games in the past were mobile only and none of them can be played anymore.

I beat the game today. As a Trolls fan, I love what they did for the game. They captured the world and style of Trolls perfectly. It really felt like I was exploring around the world of the movies, and the story felt like it was an episode of the Hulu cartoon, TrollsTopia. There was even continuity between two characters from Trolls World Tour. Even the end story scene where DJ addresses that's why we're trolls, made me smile. It lives up to the series it's based off of.

Will admit, the only real downside I found were just bugs here and there. I even got Poppy stuck at one point, and had to pause to return to the recent checkpoint. Also, the game did get a bit confusing, I didn't know what to do or where to go next in some spots. For a game that's for kids, I could imagine a kid getting confused.

Negatives aside, I enjoyed the game. If they make another Trolls game, hopefully there's some more polish and bugs get ironed out. Side note, I also bought the PC version on sale on Steam, just to have it on my PC too. Same game, just better performance and framerate.

@Anti-Matter I know you left the forum, in event if you read this, Bridget was not a boss. She actually helped Poppy (or whoever you're playing as) reach a high area by putting platforms together in an auto-scrolling section.
