I never played these games and I am thinking of starting them. Before I do I want to know which one do I start with or does it matter?

It doesn’t really matter, however the second game will get extra events and scenarios, plus the possibility of more and better equipment.

Some people find that playing Ages first gives Seasons the extra bit of spice it lacks due to the light story, and the main boss of that game is considerably stronger than the boss of Ages, so it can be nice to “leave it for later”.

Conversely, given Ages has the weaker main boss, then playing it second will give it a stronger final boss. Playing Ages second also gives you access to the whole map: when playing it normally (unliked), there’s one single square of the map you can’t access at all.

Also, in an unlinked game, you can do certain things to choose your animal companion, while on a linked game you’ll stick to whatever animal you befriended in the previous game. The animal companion you have decides the layout of one certain part of both maps, so really… to experience it all you kinda need to play the games three times each!

I'd start with Seasons first. It's easier to get into and there's a bit more that you get to carry through into Ages than if you do them the other way round.

They're both relatively short games though, so doing multiple playthroughs isn't that much of a chore.

Ah OK so it's a bit like the Pokémon games. That's what I thought but wasn't 100% sure.

Hm well not quite, the Pokémon games are two slightly different versions of the same game. Here both Ages and Seasons are different games made using the same framework (they look and play the same, but the content is different), the main thing is that whichever game you decide to play second becomes a direct sequel.

In a way it’s a bit of a meaner model compared to Pokémon, here you actually needed to buy both versions to get the full experience 😅

@Eel OK makes sense, I can see where that would be a big inconvenience back in the day where you had to buy them both.

Personally I’d say that seasons was always better to play at the time and has aged better. Both are minority positions though - most people prefer Ages.

Started up Oracle of Ages tonight and so far I like it. Not to far, I just started the second dungeon. There is alot to take in like rings and seeds that I am starting to figure out but other then that it's a Zelda game. I died a few times on the first boss before I figured him out but other then that the game hasn't been tough for me.
