I got to handle one of the Lites today. I like how the controls include a d-pad, but I'm still concerned about how teeny-tiny the buttons are. I can completely shade the stick and all four buttons with a thumb.

I feel like a thing next gen is gonna be controllers available in multiple sizes. I hope so, anyway.

I didn't like Breath of the Wild, have I mentioned it yet today?

Not to turn this topic into a diary, but I picked up a Switch Lite today. Best Buy has a pretty lenient return policy on game systems, so I'll try it for a couple of weeks and see how I feel about it.

EDIT: My thumb is on fire after using this D-pad and the sticks are kind of...odd. I'll be exercising that return policy very soon.

@Ralizah oh, it does? That's nice.
I thought they mentioned that Lite won't have gyro controls.

That said, I still think original Switch is a better choice in the long run - if you remember 3DS and New 3DS, there were a few exciting and important games that didn't work on old 3DS, only New. I'm sure Switch will have something similar with some games not working on Lite (which Nintendo already hinted at).

@Shonenmon Nintendo wouldn't make a Switch without gyro, as a game like Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee! wouldn't work without it. Ditto with the motion controlled puzzles in BotW.

Aside from Labo apps, everything should technically work on Switch Lite, since you can connect joycons to it (granted, nobody wants to play Ring Fit or Let's Dance standing feet away from a 5.5 inch screen). The problem with your N3DS vs 3DS comparison is that the former was a tech upgrade over the latter (the CPU was faster, I believe), whereas, aside from more power efficient internals, the technology in Switch Lite vs. Switch Phat is exactly the same.

Also, the only two exclusives of note for N3DS were a port of Xenoblade Chronicles and The Binding of Isaac. More important were performance improvements in games like Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Hyrule Warriors Legends, and Pokemon Sun and Moon.

But, as I said, the situation isn't comparable, because the capability of the hardware is exactly the same in the Lite and Phat models (undocked, anyway; obviously the Phat sees performance boosts when docked, which are unavailable to the undockable Lite).

@Shonenmon My initial feeling seems to have been confirmed by my time with the Lite- I'm going to want a full size screen for most of the Switch's games and a Pro Controller for the sake of comfort.

@Ralizah I've decided for now to wait on the Switch until I'm better situated to get the phat version. In the meantime- very close to winning an auction on a 3DS with some decent games.

I have a big move coming up in the next year, will probably not get into the Switch until then.
