Japanese ads reveal a few small new details about Wonder, namely the designs of Goomba Peach and Spike Ball Peach, Blue Toad, and Yoshi, as well as the surprise appearance of King Boo
In America Target now has a playable demo! I absolutely love the game already. The controls feel so natural, the music and sound effects are amazing, and everything feels so fresh and fun. Legitimately may become my new favorite game of all time
It's genuinely exciting how positive this game's being received from these early previews!
I wonder if it'll manage to reach the heights of Super Mario World though?
I played the demo for Wonder in Target today and while it was fun I kept getting looks from random shoppers who were passing by the isle. The volume was blaring and I’m pretty sure nearly everyone in the store could hear WOWIE ZOWIE!
Can't contain my excitement either. Nothing beats 2d mario. I love the new series to death which I know is hit or miss for some people. Hoping this tops SMB3 is my all time favorite 2D platformer.
@NintendoByNature I am right there with you. I prefer 2D Mario over 3D Mario games. I have more playtime on New Super Mario U Deluxe then Mario Odyssey on my Switch. Just something about the 2D Mario's that is missing from 3D ones for me.

@Tasuki look, I love both to death, but 2d mario is my comfort food. It just flows. 3d mario is more stop and look around for me. With 2d games, I'm running and jumping ad fast as I can. I love it.

Same. Odyssey is a fun enough game, but Super Mario U Deluxe really made me want to 100% everything and Odyssey didn't. I'm guessing Wonder will have a ton of optional content so I expect it to jump high in my list of most played games. Although it will never beat my 330 hours of Mario Maker 2. For that matter, I also played more Mario 35 than Odyssey. 😆
Some 3D Mario games (like 3D World) I think do capture the charm of 2D games, but for me at least Odyssey doesn't — it's much heavier on the exploration than the platforming; I want some of both, but the ratio matters.
@Fizza Wednesday probably!
I recently compiled a list of every Nintendo published Switch game with their release date and metacritic score and BOY I can't wait to see how Mario Wonder stacks up!😁
I'm also being taunted by the pre-load screen , the Flower Kingdom just looks so... delicious on the eyes!
@Nintoz what was the average score? Also, how many games are in your list? I believe I counted 150 Nintendo published entries from the eShop recently, but some of those are DLC/multi-game packages.
I fully expect NintendoLife to give Wonder 10/10 but I can't wait for the inevitable reviewers that are like 'it's good, but it really should be 3D/open world to be a modern game'.
2017: 12 games - Avg. Score = 80
2018: 17 games - Avg. Score = 78
2019: 20 games - Avg Score = 81
2020: 18 games - Avg. Score = 77
2021: 15 games - Avg. Score = 77
2022: 13 games - Avg. Score = 80
2023: 13 games (As of 'Super Mario RPG') - Avg. Score = 80 (As of 'Detective Pikachu Returns')
Total Games: 108
All-Time Average Score: 79
Note that the Pokèmon and Famicom Detective Club releases have been counted as one game, as well as Pikmin 1+2.
If you were to count them all as two games then I believe the total would be 113
I gave the score of 2D Mario games around 60 - 65 / 100 from my impression as 2D Mario games looks very basic but I have very low hype to play the games.
So ready for this game!! (Also gonna buy superstars to make the time pass faster lol)
Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)
Looking through the 80 Metacritic reviews. I realize the 'only 93 metacritic score, it deserved a 96!' complaints are silly, but I'm still amused by some of the reviews which read like:
'Best Mario games since snes! fantastic art! Rekindled my childhood love of platformers! 8/10'.
Bring on Friday! Unfortunately( or I guess fortunately), I'll be taking my kids and their friends to a haunted house so I'll be tied up til late. But lf I have to stay up til 3am playing, then by golly......
@FishyS Too true. While NL's review was overall excellent, the final verdict part felt somewhat off. "Nothing genre defining or changing" for instance. 2d platformers aren't in their infancy anymore. The secret exits, secret worlds and collectables that made Mario World unique are now staples, so it's much harder to think of ways of revamping the formula (Wonder seems to have a great go at it tho, with its online style and wonder effects). Also, if Wonder is truly the best 2d game since the SNES, how come it got a lower final score than New Super Mario bros wii (10)?
