Just saw that Sonic X Shadow Generations came out a couple days ago... how is it on the Switch?

@MarioVillager92 It runs amazingly. No juttering or dropped frames even at super sonic speed. Control input lines up wonderfully with your button pressing. This is not a Frontier's situation where they had to pull back.

@MarioVillager92 I'll second what @Mana_Knight said. Runs absolutely flawlessly IMO, and I'm used to playing at higher res / 60 fps on PC.

At least 2'8".

D-Star92

@Mana_Knight @Buizel OK awesome! I did also see a gameplay video and it runs smooth as butter. Looks like it runs in 30 FPS, but that's fine with me. Thank you both!

Hey guys.

Still very much enjoying it. 20 hours in now. Mostly replaying levels, as I want to get most of the Red Star Coins and Chao before moving on with the story. Also, doing the Challenge levels too.

However, two abilities that I have heard you can unlock are Slow Time and Super Sonic, by getting to the end of the game I presume? To anyone who has these, would it make collecting certain Red Rings easy with these powers? There are some levels I play over and over and over to try and get, and you only get one shot before you have to start the level again, but would be much easier if these powers work like I think they will. Like, can Super Sonic fly?

I might be aimlessly trying to collect some of these when there is a much easier way at the end!

Classic Super Sonic is just permanent invincibility, no buffs, and Modern Super Sonic can fly (but it drains your rings)

I'm just a guy who loves adventure. I'm Sonic Adventure 2!
no heroes remake yet, was it ever real?
nintendo please give us a new rhythm heaven or else i will become karate joe in real life and jump you
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is peak 2D platforming.

Just started this game yesterday. I played a bit of Sonic Generations to get used to the game again and I'm glad I did because the control scheme they picked is really awkward. I'm glad they have an option to switch to the classic controls from the original game, because it works so much better. Although Stomping is still awkward with classic controls, but still.

Anyway, I've been spending most of my time on Shadow Generations to experience that content. And boy is it a great addition to the game. It's 3edgy5me, but it actually owns it and executes it in a way that actually meshes well with Generations' gameplay. And the levels are pretty well designed. Shoutout to Kingdom Valley, they really nailed it with this version of the level. They stuffed it full of reference to 06's variants in a nice, coherent, well designed level, and the addition of Doom Surf really makes the old watercraft section much snappier. Anyway, just beat Metal Overlord, seems like I've finished most of it, but looking forward to the rest.

In case anyone missed it (cause it didn't get much coverage), the Sonic 3 movie pack dlc for Shadow Generations has released. It's available to purchase and will run ya about six bucks. I enjoyed it, but it's undoubtedly pretty expensive for what it is, considering it has one zone with one 3D act and two challenge acts. Regardless, it still is a really cool piece of cross-promotion, and I would obviously recommend it if you find it interesting.

Time Eater is one of the worst bosses in Sonic History. Not fun and poor design of mechanics. It is so bad, it reduces my overall score and thoughts on the game. Super Sonic fights are pretty much the home run reward for most Sonic games. You did the hardwork and here is the super fun bit. You are overpowered and the chance of failure is meant to be minimal. Making it harder than when he is regular Sonic is dumb.

Any tips how to actually catch up and hit him? I have even watched a YT video to see someone else do it, but nothing stood out to how it was actually done.

@Mana_Knight There's really no secret sauce in this battle, it's a bit hard but straightforward. Just boost as much as possible, collect rings, and dodge attacks. That's pretty much the whole battle. The only other thing is that sometimes the Time Eater will leave the wormhole, in which case you just need to Switch to the other Sonic, but other than that there's no real trick to this battle. You just need to be fast and evasive and eventually you'll reach it.

@Bolt_Strike Thank you. I will give it another try..but I feel it might be one I just can't do!

@Mana_Knight I just defeated this boss yesterday. I kept losing rings too fast initially, and wasn't getting enough to stay alive.
I found it a lot easier to keep getting rings in 2D form if that helps and I generally stayed in that form when the boss attacked.

And in the wormhole-thing, keep boosting and moving around to avoid all the attacks and you'll eventually hit the weak point. I think that's mainly or the only time I hit their weak point, whilst in that wormhole.

Best of luck!

I'm loving this game! I've always wanted to get into the Sonic games (preferably the more modern games), but the mixed reception of a decent amount of them made me think twice.

I did buy Superstars which I was enjoying until I got a bit too frustrated with some of the later bosses and their programming as other people have also indicated.

I was a bit hesitant on this one, but gave it a go (and it was discounted) and I very much enjoyed Sonic Generations.
And now having only done about 5 acts on Shadow Generations; wow! It's also very good. I can't wait to continue.

And I plan to buy Sonic Frontiers, despite that game's reception (especially on Switch), but it looks fun and there have been some patches since its launch, I believe. Just waiting for a sale on that one.
Plus, I've enjoyed all the movies, including the latest one.

I'm officially a Sonic fan 🙂

Mana_Knight

@ATMVF Thank you! That is helpful. Will give it another go today.

Lol. Glad you liked it. I am annoyed I bought it at launch though. I KNEW they would discount it before Christmas, but thought maybe by ten pounds or something. It was one I missed out on having never had a playstation or xbox, so was keen to get it.

Just saw it was like 11.29 or something on the sale.

Lesson learnt. Just....don't buy Sonic games at launch!

I have yet to play Shadow yet! I want to 100 percent Sonic first, but looking forward to that side of the game!

@Mana_Knight Cool! You're welcome 🙂
Oh yeah, ha. It can be difficult waiting for sales, but they can certainly be worth the wait. At least you know for next time.

That's cool that you want to 100 percent Sonic Generations first. Can't say I did that. I only ended up doing minimal challenges to get those boss keys and I probably missed out on any collectables in all of the acts, ha. Oh well. I do want to go back later to do more challenges, and maybe try to get some more collectables, too.

I finally beat Time Eater. I realised what I was doing wrong! I was tapping the boost button, but you just literally hold it down the entire fight. It almost seems pointless to have had the mechanic, as it does not run out here. Lol.

SW-2955-4696-6969

Mana_Knight

Ohh. I was hoping Super Sonic could fly in the normal levels when you unlock him. That would make the red rings much easier! Alas, no. I only have a few to go, but all are on Planet Wisp! The worst level

So cool, the physical version has advertisement and flavour text in the package. Feels a little bit like in the good old times.

Radical Highway Act 1 is so awesome without the Doom Wings. What a pleasant challenge.
