Just asking as I tend to keep dying to enemies and running low on stamina while climbing, or nearly running out of stamina but just barely making it to the top and I want to make sure I'm not underprepared to things. I also tend to run out of weapons. I do get any and all weapons I find however even from enemies, because yolo.

It’s not like an RPG where you need to grind, but if you want to do all the shrines that's up to you.
The enemies will get stronger as you progress in the Divine Beasts quest, so if you find yourself outmatched then yes getting a few extra hearts would likely help you.
Just don’t force yourself to got for a 100% run if you don’t want to.
@Eel ah ok thanks, waterblight ganon even outmatched me which is supposedly the easiest so I reset my game(which i tend to do but this time to have the voices in Japanese for curiosity). You wanna talk about dead youtube channels? mine is dead, i got a few subscribers one of which even reached out to privately asking why I don't use it and explained 'life you know' essentially

@Eel that second bit is actually wrong. Enemies get stronger as you defeat more of them. There's no story related triggers to that stuff but some of the bosses will push you further towards the next "milestone" than regular enemies.
@Dom_31 ah right all the enemies add to that “exp” pool.
@PokeNerdess if you have the DLC, I would recommend obtaining the Majora’s Mask item, it makes most minor enemies ignore you so traversing the land becomes much easier.
The base game has other masks that serve the same purpose, but on a per-species basis, the Majora’s Mask combines them.
In my opinion, the easiest divine beast is Vah Medoh (the bird)
About my dead YouTube channel, it doesn't get much activity at all, but I enjoy uploading gameplay to it.
Was gonna say Rudania is the easiest but the Medoh Boss is such a pushover that I legitimately didn't even consider him when thinking about who gave me the least trouble lol
Rutah is definitely second hardest after Naboris for me tho, so I can understand your trouble with that.
Also, I think doing all the shrines is a good way to go about playing BotW. Most of them are fairly varied with their puzzles even though you will get repeats or the same type of puzzle but they're all so free form that you could probably even challenge yourself to solve them all differently lol
The only thing I don't recommend doing as far as completion goes are the Korok seeds. They're not worth it past the final item pouch upgrades while the shrines, memories and obviously the divine beasts all net you pretty good rewards/sweet, sweet lore about this version of hyrule. The side quests are also mostly pretty neat and easy to do and they, as do the memories, give you more story to chew on.
People generally dismiss the game as being light on that but if you want to see all BotW has to offer with its story you'll get as much of that out of it as with almost any other Zelda game, with the highlight being Zelda's characterization and how she grows with her task. It's legitimately great writing but don't repeat that around redditors.
@PokeNerdess
Regarding stamina & health: Grind shrines to gain stamina & health hearts. It's ok to skip shrines that are too tough, like "major test of strength" challenges. There are plenty of shrines you can complete. Upgrade your armor (decreases the damage you take). The number of times you can upgrade your armor depends on the number of Fairy Fountains you've found. There are four Fairy Fountains in BOTW. Cook radishes Cooking a single hearty radish adds temporary hearts. Three extra hearts? Cooking multiple radishes will grant more temporary health hearts. Beat a devine beast - you get useful things for beating them. It's worth it. Elephant & bird beasts are the easiest to access.
Workarounds for degrading weapons: Maximize your bombs rune at Hateno Village lab (the kawaii girl scientist). You can increase bomb damage, and reduce cool down time. When maxed out, you can do a good deal of fighting by alternating between round and square bombs. I believe Impa at Kakariko Village will put a pin on your map to show you where Hateno Village is. So, if you already talked to Impa, Hateno Village Lab should be in the side quests log.
Farm arrows Bokoblins on horseback will shoot arrows & miss you. You can pick up those arrows.
side note: (It's in your interest to sneak into the castle. Quite handy. I don't want to say any more than that.)
@Dom_31 i know the korok seeds are not worth, i just find the korok seeds I find and don't care. upgrades are semi-worth but otherwise i don't care about korok seeds

I'd say that the Rudania, Ruta and Medoh bosses are about the same difficulty. In terms of strategies, the former can be stunlocked with remote bombs while the latter two go down fairly quickly if you just spam arrows at them, particularly of the bomb and elemental variety from a multi-shot bow. There are a lot of other ways to fight though; just go with whatever works for you.
Definitely save Naboris until last though; it's a tough fight unless you can reliably pull off parries and dodges. Arrow spam only kinda works; it's a lot less reliable due to there being relatively few safe spots and a lot will get blocked by the shield unless you take that down first. The rubber armor and non-metal shields are also handy for reducing the amount of times you get shocked.
As for the shrines, just unlock them for fast travel and take a peek inside. If they're too tough, you can always come back later. Doing them all before you go to the castle to take on Ganon will make you very overpowered though, so it's better to head there sooner if you want the final battle to have a bit of tension.
@PokeNerdess If you're completing shrines, focus on your stamina wheel. You can farm Hearty Durian's to max out your health, the best locations are near the Mogg Latan Shrine on Satori Mountain (west of Hyrule Field) and on the raised area next to Faron Tower, not far from the southern coast.
This game is so difficult for me. I don’t really like (and really don’t play) games where you need items and things. It’s also my first open world game. I really have no idea where to go and how to proceed. I quickly ran into enemies I couldn’t beat and ran out of arrows.
I then was trying to blitz an area to clear the tower and it was the area with the mechanical spider things and I kept getting killed.
I then spent a couple hours building up meat by hunting wolves along the bottom of the cliff wall.
I dunno. It doesn’t seem fun to grind for resources. I’d way rather make forward progress. I also can’t seem to find very many shrines, even with the radar thing.
I did get a horse though. Named him Fred. Tried getting the big one in the valley but kept getting bucked off.
This is the second game I’ve played with my new Switch. First was Mario Odyssey and I LOVED every minute. With BOTW, it seems I play for hours and get nowhere.
@Dreamliner BOTW's Quest Log will help guide you. It's a great tool to help you progress (or help you resume a game if you took a long break from the game). Press + for inventory menu, the press then L for the quest log. You will see Main Quests (this is the core of the game structure). You'll also see side quests. Each quest you highlight will tell you what to do and put a pin on the map to show you where to go. If you select the quest, a gold circle will appear on the quest; Then, if you go to your map, you will see a gold pin on the map showing you where to go.
The basic structure of the game:
1)Complete the great plateau. The game then tells you to find Impa.
2)Go to kakariko village & speak to Impa (look in your quest log.) Impa will tell your main quest to beat the 4 divine beasts to help you beat ganon (also she'll tell you to go to hateno village lab(useful things there)).
@PokeNerdess Trust me I played BOTW forgot that I needed sleep and battery went 15%. That was when I learned to be sure there was a USBC cable with adapter long eight to keep playing. But yes BOTW by time you realize you spent 6 hours just exploring and doing quest. That to me is just pure fun and challenging.
@WoomyNNYes Holy smokes, the Quest Log was a HUGE help. It shows where to go for the next step. Much better. Everybody I talk to ends up having some sort of side quest. Interesting to see how that all gets laid out in the game. Now it feels like I can make progress much quicker. I just got the blue flame to the lab.
I will say though, I still feel like I'm grinding having to gather resources and now the lab told me to back to Impa, feels like a fetch-quest. I just like feeling like I'm making forward progress without game gimmicks that pad out play time. I'm sure I'd feel differently if I really loved spending time looking for arrows, hunting goats and cooking meat.
I ended up gliding from nearby cliffs onto Faron Tower & Dueling Peaks Tower and unlocking those easily as well as the two nearby shrines on the peaks.
I like unlocking the shrines. Sure is nice knowing where to go.
I still think I’d like this better if the enemies dropped all the resources you needed.
