Hi I've arranged a repair for my joycons, the left one has drift, the right is becoming less responsive than it once was.
On the repair options I selected the option for both joycons. However on the following page it asks for serial number so I entered the serial for the worse affected (the left one) and there's no space to enter a second serial for the right joycon.
I've received confirmation that UPS will collect but it seems it's only booked repair of the left joycon;
"We'll be in contact shortly with further updates after the reception at the Repair Centre of:
HAC ASSY JCL BLUE (BA)"
Has anybody else experienced this? I definitely selected the option for BOTH joycons. If anybody else has had this problem, did you send both joycons back or just the one that's been logged?
Also, do I get another go at opening a return? As I could just open a new return for the right joycon? Or is it a 'one repair at a time' system they've got going?
Lastly, it mentions there may be a fee involved;
"If your console is still within its warranty period, please include a copy of your proof of purchase to enable our repair team to confirm the warranty status. Please bear in mind that all paperwork that we receive from you will be destroyed once warranty is confirmed which is why we kindly ask you to not send us any original paperwork such as original proof of purchase. If proof of purchase is not included, the product will be presumed to be out of warranty and the repair will be chargeable."
My understanding was that due to mass complaints/ legal action, Nintendo agreed to take the hit on this one and repair joycons for free? I note that the above states "if your CONSOLE". By "console" I'd assume that to mean the touchscreen only, as that is effectively the console. I wouldn't class detachable controllers as the console. So I'm confused by this as I'm not sending back my console, only sending the joycon(s).
ah so nobody at all in these forums has ever sent back a joycon. Cheers for nowt guys.
I wasn't sure I could answer your question, so I didn't answer. Up until now, nintendo fixes or replaces all joycons, regardless of warranty. Since we're in the seventh year of the switch, I'm not certain they still accept/fix all joycons, but I haven't heard that anything has changed. So maybe they still are fixing/replacing all joycons - just my guess.
There have been two people in here, in the US, and nintendo sent them new joycons. However, I don't know how common it is for nintendo to send new joycon replacements.
Regarding Nintendo asking for a serial number, I'm familiar with them asking for the console's serial number, but I'm not aware that they ask for serial numbers on the joycons themselves.
It's been several years since I did mine but I'm sure there was no issue. I sent both at the same time. I don't remember being only able to enter one serial number. If that was the case, it clearly wasn't an issue. No questions asked. Reasonably expedient.
@dodonintendo The post above reminds me, I've not seen anyone mention what Nintendo's turnaround time is in this post pandemic period. Normally, before the pandemic, I Nintendo aimed to get your hardware repair back to you within two weeks if they had the parts (thats how it was for north america, too). Feel free to update us on what their turnaround time is these days.
@WoomyNNYes
Here in Germany I got my stuff back within 7 to 9 days. Depending how long the shipping took. Even during pandemic.
I just recently send my Special Edition ProController for repair. They just send me a complete replacement. Glad we have 2 years of warranty here. Wouldn't have been able to get anything repaired for free with out it. 😅

Really? I've got four pro controllers that developed drift. I should have sent them in.
I am sending mine in…. Two sets…one from the original Switch at launch and some neon ones that I scored a few months after launch. apparently at no charge. I have been using the new ones with my OLED and special edition Zelda ones. Glad they are doing this bc I am a light gamer. Maybe a hour a day, if that. Probably more like 20-30 minutes. Not sure what got in my head to see if I could get them repaired, but did some research and decided to give it a go. I’ll come back with a report when I get them back..
I received second set today and first set yesterday. Nintendo provided text updates- received last Friday. Repairs began. I am guessing they didn’t work over the weekend p, as one set was completed on Monday with the other on Tuesday. Glad I kept my broken ones- I figured I would use them for Ring Fit or Sports. Never did, but it worked out for the better. They seem to work fine, but I am guessing they will break down again.
I sent one in a couple of weeks ago. It was a very slick operation. Put in the request Friday evening. UPS man arrives on Monday to pick it up. No cost to me, I just needed to something to put it in so I used an old jiffy bag. The guy supplied the postage label. The joy-con arrived back Friday morning, less than a week after I put in the request.
Nintendo are running a slick operation with this. Now if only they could run a slick operation with the original manufacture.
