Hello there! Just wanted to ask people if getting a Switch now, near the end of 2019, is a good idea? I loved playing Smash bros, Mario kart, and other Nintendo titles in the past, but never really considered getting another console until now. I have my eyes set on Smash bros Ultimate and have this craving to play it and this want to actually try to get good at competitive 1vs1, but if I plan on just playing that and Mario Kart, would that still be worth it to buy? Also the Switch has been out for a little bit and I've been hearing rumors of a "Switch pro" possibly releasing in 2020? So I'm unsure whether people think I should wait, or just purchase a Switch sometime soon when there is deals, discounts, and that sort of thing going on. Thanks in advance!
@BradyH588 There's currently been no sign they will be putting out a Pro. Yes, there's a lot of talk about it, but it's all just speculation. It may or may not come. In August there was a quiet release of a revised Switch console (Switch version 2, or V2) which comes in a newer all-red Switch console box on the store shelves. The Switch V2 has a new processor chip that uses less power, which extends the Switch handheld battery life from 3hrs of playtime to 5.5hrs while playing Breath of the Wild. It's also been said to have a slightly brighter screen, but I haven't seen anything official confirm it. Take a look at the link to see V2 details.
I personally don't think it makes much sense to try to wait for a Pro model. If you're going to buy, buy a Switch V2. There have been some places selling the Switch V1 for less, but I'm not clear how much less.
@BradyH588 It seems likely that a Switch Pro will happen, but like @Woomy_NNYes said, it's just rumors for the moment. If you live somewhere where they celebrate Christmas and have all those lovely holiday sales, I'd highly encourage you to wait for those. The console will most likely be on sale then but even if it's not, most games almost certainly will. Especially ones that came out last year and older.
If we do get a Switch Pro, I don't imagine it being earlier than next August or September.

I would wait. When the Switch Pro releases, don't get it. Wait. They'll be a Switch sequel a little while later. Don't get that one either. Just wait. Patience is key.
Alternatively buy one this morning and play some games.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I would buy now as the New Switchs' are out now and IMO there won't be a price drop for at least another year. The Switch has been out for almost 2.5 years now so i would comfortable say it's at least 1/3 the way if not 1/2 the way through its' life cycle.
Nintendo won't introduce a Switch Pro to compete with PS5 or Xbox Scarlett until a year or two after those consoles have been on the market, so Holiday 2022 at the earliest. Can you wait three more years to play the newest entries in your favorite Nintendo series'?
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

@BradyH588 There's no sense in waiting for some mythical console revision that may or may not happen. Besides, even if it does, the Switch Lite came out recently, so it wouldn't be any time soon.
There are enough exclusive games now that the Switch is a worthwhile purchase for people who only go for Nintendo games.
No one knows what Nintendo will do. I want a pro personally. I hate when people say "Nintendo won't do this....". People said that about a lot of Nintendo things and they were wrong before. No one knows. Just buy a switch. If a pro gets announced just sell your system on kijiji and accept that's the cost of gaming.
Thanks again for the replies! I think I'll probably keep an eye on any and all sales for the Switch and Switch games, maybe I'll buy it if there is an irresistible deal, or maybe I'll wait, not totally sure yet. Feel free to link any sales you happen to come by! Will be looking at this regularly probably to see what everyone's opinion on waiting or buying now is
Some early Black Friday deals are beginning to show around here in Murica.
Target will have Switch + MK8 for $299 (same as last year), and select evergreen titles for 50% off msrp.

j/w op do you got wii u? mario kart is still poppin on that just go international, also same with smash im pretty sure. or even a 3ds
I got a switch lite because a famous mall sold it in instalments (really!) here, so I rushed to get it before the offer ended. Anyway, I wouldn't spend more to get a normal switch right now, as I heard the pro one might get two readers for different cartridges, which makes me suspect they're going to release larger media support.
The 64DD ship sank in the ocean already 😜

"Larger media support', @Gwynbleidd .... ? As in physically larger carts? Since I'm sure their current ones could be made in a 64 GB version at least Perhaps that needs a software update or something but I can't see them having 2 game slots on any upgraded Switch
Maybe when Switch 2 releases, it'll have a bigger slot for it's games & one for this versions ones?
@BruceCM they just mentioned a second slot, that's all I know. Of course if they do that, it would be mostly to let buyers easily realize it's a new version of the Switch, but they surely could still do it with just one slot. What's really important is that the newest hypothetical cartridge type would not be compatible with the current Switch.
would be sick if on the dock they had like 3 - 4 insertable cartridge slots
We just picked up one for our sons Christmas. I was debating waiting until Black Friday but in the end decided it was not worth the headache.
That being said, Target has a Black Friday preview sale today and tomorrow ( 11/8,11/9) with some decent markdowns for games if you have one in your area.
Yeah, take all rumours with a hefty pinch of salt, @Gwynbleidd .... What they could, more realistically, mean is a hardware update that would allow for larger capacity carts that are the same physical size
