Hi all.
Just joined, i have been trying to get google to answer my question, but with no luck.
Can both my kids use their switch in portable mode in the car, and still play minecraft (or other games) together, like normal multiplayer, and how does this work if so?
I haven’t purchased the switch’s just yet, as they are going to be for christmas presents.
I just don’t know enough about them yet.
Thanks in advance.
Yeah i get that bit. Im on about taking the console out and about without access to WiFi, do 2 hand held units communicate to each other without internet access, surely local multiplayer still needs internet access?
@CaptainWoo To summarize, like the others have said:
Yes the Switch supports local wireless play. But it depends on the game in question and both systems will need a copy of the game. (You cannot buy one copy of Minecraft and have both kids playing it, at once, on 2 different systems - for example)
Also as for Minecraft in specific, there are different kinds of multiplayer. If you set up a "Realm" for your kids - which is a shared multiplayer world that is always online - either child can play on it, at any time from either system, but this requires wi-fi. This is because the world is saved online.
However, regular multiplayer is limited to when both players are playing together. If child A creates the world and child B joins, Child B cannot play if Child A is not also playing because the world is saved on A's Switch.
Just FYI.
