I got violet recently nearly done with the story mode. Still working on the pokedex but I was wondering if arceus was worth a buy in 2023? Or if the violet dlc comes out I should get that?

@Blooberz If you loved violet 100% go for it, I enjoyed it a lot and from what I heard it was just more of that.

However some of the fights are hard so just preparing you.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

I personally think Legends Arceus is the stronger of the two. Legends has better story, exploration, sound design and performance (better frame rate, less bugs). It also has bunch of side quests so you have actual things to do while running around the map. The only thing in Scarlet and Violet I prefer over Legends is the traditional battle system. Legends' battles basically all come down to being the faster Pokémon so you can OHKO your opponent before they can do the same to you.

It really depends on what you value from a Pokemon game. If you value a traditional Pokemon experience, then Arceus will likely bore you to tears. Story is paperthin, villains are only really established in the post game, there aren’t traditional trainer battles or gyms and the sense of progression that comes through that journey. However, if the main focus of your Pokemon playtime is to catch them all, Arceus offers easily the most engaging way to experience that and that is basically the sole focus of the game and the driver of progression within it, and if you feel Pokemon is in need of some new ideas, Arceus certainly offers that, even though I am not sure they are all successful.

Life to the living, death to the dead.

I'm with @Late

I found Legends Arceus to be far more enjoyable than Scarlet/Violet. S/V bored me within a week while Legends Arceus is still a lot of fun to go back to in order to fill out just one more page of the Pokédex. I'm still yet to complete Violet, and I bought that at launch.

If you haven't played Sword/Shield yet, I would also wholeheartedly recommend that over Let's Go or Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl as it plays like an old-school Pokémon game while having plenty of modern refinements. Dare I say that I actually enjoyed Sword/Shield a lot more than Scarlet/Violet. Scarlet/Violet boasts an open world gimmick, but there's very little to do within it, and its poor performance, occasional crashes, and problematic glitches may negatively impact your experience. There's a good game buried underneath all of its flaws, but it was obviously rushed.

I liked the look of arceus for the catching battling crafting and quests so I might get that. personally I think that if a dlc isn't announced in the next direct or the one after I might play arceus.
