Topic: Old Franchise's Nintendo should bring back

Going back to when the switch was just a rumor, most people sw one of best things about Nintendo combining their home and handheld consoles into 1 machine would be that they could focus their game development into 1 platform. This should allow Nintendo to put out in-house developed games at a more consistent rate then the 3DS and WiiU saw.

Assuming Nintendo wants to maintain several years between games in their flagship franchises, which I think would be smart at it makes their release's big events, they should have the time and resources to work on more franchises then they could in the past (ie - they only need to produce 1 Zelda game in 5 years, where with platforms they needed 2. Only 1 Mario game instead of 2 etc...).

What franchise(s), that we haven't seen in a while, would you like to see Nintendo revisit with this (ideally) new found freedom. I have a few on my list, but I'll start with Kid Icarus. I know they put a new Kid Icarus game on 3DS, but that game wasn't a very good. Instead of an on-rails shooter I'd like to see them look to God of War for Inspiration (both games draw on Greek Myths) - A Kid Friendly God of War. Instead of the blades of Choas Pit would use his bow, swords, double swords, magic etc... to fight through levels based on ancient Greece. His flying ability could be used to add varity to the game play.

What would be really easy for Nintendo, and a massive seller would be to bring back call of duty. it can be crap resolution, i dont care. it's call of duty on the go! even just a zombies only mode. would be great.

Tekken and Soul Calibur would be nice additions. I would like to see Splinter Cell Blacklist. I have that on 360 and never finished it before I boxed it up.

Paper Mario doesn't really count, since it's been on the 3DS and all Nintendo consoles since the N64, but I want them to bring it to the Switch, but in the vein of The Thousand Year Door rather than Color Splash or Sticker Star. That was such a great series, and it's honestly just a shadow of its former self at this point.

I'd like Nintendo's very earliest games to receive modern sequels with the addition of familiar faces. They would be short and cheap e-shop only games focused on entertaining gameplay that players would keep returning to.

Kirby's Block Fiber 2
Super Mario Galaxy: Space Fever 3
Star Fox: SF-HiSplitter 2
Link's Crossbow Training: Sheriff 2
Donkey Kong: Monkey Magic 2
Metroid: Space Demon 2
Steel Diver: Radar Scope 2
Kid Icarus: Sky Skipper 2
PilotWings: Heli Fire 2

Yes, I just took an old game and added the name of a popular franchise to the beginning and a number at the end. Although the new games wouldn't play the same as the original games did, some games may have completely different gameplay to the franchise its now attached to. Super Mario Galaxy: Space Fever 3 (the second game was on the GB Camera) would be a shooting game with a Super Mario Galaxy theme to it rather than playing anything like the traditional Super Mario Galaxy games. You can imagine what it would play like.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Even though it couldn't be a full game, a new version of excitebike would be great

Well to be clear about what this thread isn't about, it's not about third parties. Nintendo not spending as much time having to support two platforms isn't going to do anything for third party support. It may allow us to have them in the one place but all the games in one place is not "more". However Nintendo not having to develop two versions of Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Yoshi, Kirby etc etc... that means more time for other games.

With that said I'd personally want to see these less-loved franchises make a comeback on Switch:

  • Kid Icarus
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Excitebike/truck/bots
  • Wii Sports (Switch Sports?)
  • F-Zero
  • Mario Strikers
  • Wario Land

A visionary like yourself should be President of Nintendo! ..I'd buy all of those games!

Another Golden Sun would be nice. There's room for 2 JRPG series I think!

Oh maybe a donkey Kong, perfect dark, smash bros melee or tetrisphere was always a favourite of mine.

I realise most of these are made by Rare but hopefully they'll make a return to switch.

@NaviAndMii
I literally just scrolled down the list of best selling Nintendo published games and picked a handful that IMO didn't seem overdone. Then added Kid Icarus because I really loved the 3DS revival. That's the easy part. Anyone can do that. The tricky part is then taking that franchise and making an interesting game out of it.

Nintendo often does it the other way around and the games are better for it. They experiment with game concepts and come up with ideas using generic characters. Then they try and find a franchise that would fit the game. Which is why there are so many Mario and Mii themed games, those characters are versatile. How easy would it have been for Splatoon to have been Mario Paintball?

But when no existing franchise fits the mechanics they want? When they decide that this paintball game needs a way for players to move quickly through the ink and Mario can't do that? Well they invent a character and we get a new IP like Arms, Splatoon or Animal Crossing.

I've got one! I'm all for resurrecting the franchises that made Nintendo what it is today, but I would like to bring up one I haven't seen listed here: Custom Robo. I want to see some mech action on the Switch. Imagine what this series could look like today.

Actually they still would have to develop two versions of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, seeing as they have both a 2D gameplay style and a 3D gameplay style. Maybe Kirby too if that series actually goes 3D (which it's looking like it's starting to) But yeah, they can seriously cut down on some of those IPs.

Some of these aren't really old IPs though, we had them 4 years ago. I wouldn't consider anything that got a main entry on 3DS, Wii U, or Switch "old" (so no, Federation Force doesn't count for Metroid, Metroid is considered old because the last main entry was on Wii).

With that in mind, I would say Metroid, Mario Strikers, and Wario Land/the Wario platformers.
