I got a switch a while ago, probably on Christmas last year. I hadn't used it for a while and had difficulties charging it. I opened it up to find the battery had melted, so I put a new one in, but after working once, it will not charge correctly. I was hoping I could send it in for repairs, but on the website, I had to input my Serial number, which started with XAJ, not XAW. I looked it up, and it appears that this means it is from Europe, but is there any way I can get it repaired in the U.S.A?
@MonkeyDLuffeh I will warn you because you opened it up and replaced the battery, you have more then likely voided any warranty which means they will more then likely charge you for any repairs.

You aren't really meant to open the switch at all, not even to replace the battery.
It's not like the 3DS or the WiiU gamepad where those have little doors you can open to remove the battery... The switch was designed to have a permanent battery that the user shouldn't replace on their own.
@BlueOcean Nintendo sold official batteries for the Wii U GamePad with a bigger capacity. I'm not sure about replacements but I'm sure you could find them somewhere..
@Kimyonaakuma Yes, I got one for my GamePad, it lasts much much much longer and it's very easy to replace. The Wii U pro controller battery is also very easy to replace. You just need a very small screwdriver which is included, but the original battery still lasts for dozens of hours.
@Tasuki In the US it is illegal for a tech company to tell it's customers that just opening up their console (or breaking a seal) void's the warranty - this changed back in May when the FTC specifically contacted large tech companies, including Nintendo to clarify this. However... if Nintendo open up the Switch and found @MonkeyDLuffeh had caused the charging problem himself, then indeed he'd have to pay for the full repairs.
As for whether or not Nintendo can repair this console on Warranty, I agree with everyone else.. the enquiry has to be made through Nintendo Customer Support as it may vary on a case to case basis.
