It's Nintendo policy to always deny rumours. They denied the DS redesign (which turned out to be the DS Lite), the redesigned 3DS (only to unveil the 3DS XL a week later) and mobile games:

The difference here is that denying an Android-based system has no effect on the commercial performance of any of their current products.
To be fair, it kinda does... since most likely there wont be compatibility between the 3DS/WiiU with the NX (i guess?), but this is indeed looknig at the bottom of the barrel thou.
I wasn't expecting the Wii U sucessor to be backwards compatible anyway - given the dead end PowerPC seems to be - so it hardly matters to me.
Also the same OS could run in x86-64 for the home console and ARM for the handheld. If it is Linux based, it pretty much can run on anything (even PPC, but let's hope not).

I elaborated earlier, I don't want to repost it, there was a lot of info. It shouldn't be hard to find.
The latest news kinda debunks my idea for a Micro-Console to run alongside with the Home Console and Portable Console, there really isn't much point of a Micro-Console that isn't super easy to port to
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

"There are no plans to put any of our IP on mobile platforms."
Yep.
... and your point being? They made that statement a year and a half ago, most likely way before there were even any plans to bring their IPs to mobile platforms.
Though I'm aware this is highly unlikely, if it does happen to be very much in the vein of the tablet for the Wii U, it would be a nice feature if you could use this NX handheld console on your Wii U instead in replacement of its own tablet. Hopefully it'd be more comfortable in the hands, with the screen clarity and quality much better.
Also, what are the chances of the NX doubling up as a mobile phone? I don't just suggest this because of supposed relations to Android, but considering the phone market has been eating away at Nintendo's handheld market for quite some time, and I don't think they're likely to sit down and take it without a fight, wouldnt' it make sense to join in the smart phone industry with a crazy spin of their own?
Not only that, but this would give Nintendo all the more excuse to release newer models regular intervals ala Apple's strategy. I'm sure Nintendo investors would be foaming at the mouth at such an idea.
